Today it has been announced in an official press release that the Sammarinese broadcaster SMRTV will make a decision regarding their participation in the upcoming Eurovision Song Contest on 11 October. That means it is still uncertain whether the microstate will be present in Vienna in May. The decision will be made within the scope of the convention that will determine the TV programme of the upcoming year.
Carlo Romeo, Director Genral of SMRTV, emphasised the unclear situation regarding the future of San Marino in Eurovision – despite finally making it to the final for the first time in this year’s contest.
Every day we receive information requests from international media about our possible participation. After last year’s success, we’re now facing a complex situation and we don’t exclude any of the hypotheses. The TV convention is the right moment to announce whether and how the Republic of San Marino will take part in the next ESC edition
Having debuted in 2008, the enclave nation failed to qualify on every attempt until this year. On her third effort, Valentina Monetta managed bring San Marino to the final for the first time ever with her song Maybe.
