On the 22th of January, at 23:59 Romanian time, which is also at 22:59 Central European Time. The deadline hit, for artists to send their entries in for the upcoming Romanian final, known as Selectia Nationala.

Then the following day, it was time to count the amount of songs that were sent it, to the Romanian national broadcast, TVR. A total of 84 song could be found, and TVR could also name some of the names, that are included along with some of the 84 songs.

Among the names, we have some familiar names who have actually tried before to represent Romania, and of course 1 name who already have represented Romania.

MIHAI is back

So far, we have Lora, Mihai Trăistariu, Florin Chilian, Maxim, Ioana & Distinto, Tavi Colen & Emma, Tudor Turcu, Nora Deneș, Cristina Vasiu, Teodora Dinu and Ramona Nerra are some of the few names. While on the song writing side, there is Marius Moga who previously has penned songs for Eurovision and been a part of Morandi, while there is also Adrian Sina who was part of Akcent, who came 2nd in the Romanian final, in 2006. Songwriters from Sweden, The United Kingdom and even The United States, have also penned songs for Romania.

Now, TVR will verify if all the songs are eligible to participate at the Romanian national final. Afterward, auditions will take place in between the day of the 27th and the 29th of January 2017. Here will a intern jury pick the 15 songs, that will take part in the semi-final, which is planned to take part on the 26th of February.

A special set of programs will also be aired on TVR2, TVR HD & TVR International, which will show the auditions in a program called “EuroShow“. The shows are planned to be shown between the 6th and until the 11th of February.

There will be 10 finalists, in this years edition of Selectia Nationala, in which 15 songs will qualify to the semi-final, from the jury auditions. Here, another jury will then pick the 10 songs that qualify to the final, and afterwards, when the final takes place on the 5th of March 2017, a 100% Televote will then decide, who will represent Romania, in Kyiv.

Last year, Ovidiu Anton was selected, to represent Romania in Stockholm, but due to payments, that weren’t paid, Romania & Ovidiu Anton was disqualified from taking part, in last years Eurovision Song Contest, with “Moment Of Silence”. Despite the scandals, Ovidiu Anton has announced that he will perform with his band, at the semi-final.
