Although Eurovision fans have to wait every May for the Eurovision Song Contest to take place, there are many other opportunities for fans to discover new international music.
One such opportunity is the 17th WORLD PEACE SONG FESTIVAL, whose results for the 2012 contest will be released next week.
This year’s edition is being “hosted” by OGAE ITALY. In September 2012, OGAE ITALY invited 22 countries to participate in this year’s contest by submitting a song, or a list of songs, from which OGAE ITALY picked the one they felt was most suitable for the contest. Numerous OGAE REST OF THE WORLD countries take part, including the USA, Canada, South Africa, Columbia, and Morocco. RINEL DAY, who is representing SOUTH AFRICA, is an OGAE REST OF THE WORLD member. A list of the entries can be found at http://www.sechuk.com/WPSF12-Main.htm.
A CD is made and sent to the 22 jury leaders representing each country. Each jury leader then finds other members to listen to the songs and give votes in the normal EUROVISION style – 12-10-8 etc. The results of this contest will be available next week on www.sechuk.com, which is owned by OGAE UK member GARY SPEIRS.
