October 15th was the last day to submit songs for Ukraine’s Eurovision selection ‘Vidbir 2023’. There are more than 300 songs submitted this year. Dmytro Shurov, music director of ‘Vidbir 2023’, believes that this year selection was competitive, and that people make great music despite the conditions in which most people live in Ukraine nowadays.

Dmytro Shurov has a strong hope that ‘Vidbir 2023’ will be a quality selection for Eurovision, the competition will show new artists to Ukraine, good songs, and eventually we will find out the person who will represent Ukraine in Eurovision next year.

This selection will have a variety of songs, with some good tracks. There are also a handful of submissions from indie artists as well, as many people wished to make a statement. It also worth mentioning that a lot of people sing about war, stories that happen in shelters this year.

Mr. Shurov has only a few days to listen to everything, during the day and night, analyze and submit the longlist to Suspilne Committee. From there the broadcaster will be checking participants whether they comply with rules. He hopes that there won’t be any issues and everything will be checked properly by various institutions. After that, the participants are expected to be announced.
