As we continue through the Maltese selection and talking to each of the participants, we find ourselves now at Petra, who spoke to us about her struggles to make it back to the music scene, the positive message of her song and also her unique dream performance…

Hi Petra!

First of all thank you for your time talking to us. How are you? Can you introduce yourself? What can you tell us about yourself?

Hi there, I am very well thank you – very busy getting everything ready for the big night!

My name is Petra and this is not my first time competing in this competition, I’m a very determined and inspired being but it is very important for me that I enjoy the work I do, I think I am fun to be around, I’m strong and also a proud mother of 2!

The song that you will be presenting for the Malta Eurovision Song Contest is “Evolution”. What can you tell us about the song?

So the meaning of the song is the evolution of a person when he or she goes through struggles and difficult moments in life. It portrays how through the struggles one finds him or herself and how he or she becomes stronger. It’s a clear image of where I stand in my life now, after 4 year of absence with struggles, there is only strength and inspiration now.

What was the inspiration for the song, and did you write it specifically for the Malta Eurovision Song Contest and Eurovision?

The inspiration was the self-journey I saw myself go through these years. I felt like I needed to write about how I changed and evolved. And yes, it was written specifically for Eurovision.

What is your impression of the Eurovision Song Contest in general? Do you watch it every year? What is your favourite entry?

I love it so much! It’s such a big opportunity and a huge platform for artists to perform in front of such a big audience. I never miss one and my all-time favourite entry is “Sound Of Silence” by Dami Im (Australia 2016)

Apart from the Eurovision Song Contest , where would you dream to do a performance?

The American white house!

Can you tell us about your first experience with music?

I remember I was 10 years old and it was a school concert… I was so excited I felt like I was going to die. The song was “It’s a Small World”…

How do you describe your music to people?

Honest, inspiring and fun!

What is a typical day like for you?

Work, family and obviously my singing career.

What is the best bit of advice you have ever been given?

“You have been out of the scene for so long – now you just go up there, be yourself and enjoy the moment” from Pamela Bezzina who is my wonderful vocal coach.

If your life was a song title, what would it be?

“Let it Be” by The Beatles.

We would like to thank Petra for her time talking to us and wish her the best of luck with her participation in Malta Eurovision Song Contest!
