It’s now the eve of Malta’s selection for Lisbon and the next interview from the bumper crop of participants is from Eleanor Cassar, a veteran performer returning to the selection after a five year break. With eight previous entries in Maltese selections, will the ninth finally pay off for her?

Hello Eleanor!

First of all thank you for your time talking to us. How are you? Can you introduce yourself? What can you tell us about yourself?

I am Eleanor Cassar. I am preparing for the festival at this moment so I am very busy. I am a mother of a 1 year old daughter. I am a very honest, humble person. I love dining outside and also I love seafood. I have been singing since I was very young and also participated in various festivals abroad were I achieved great results.

The song that you will be presenting for the Malta Eurovision Song Contest is “Back to life”. What can you tell us about the song?

Back to life is a modern pop song which is very powerful and suits my voice. It is about a person who was suffering from psychological abuse while in a relationship and now that it is all over, they have got their life back.

What was the inspiration for the song, and did you write it specifically for the Malta Eurovision Song Contest and Eurovision?

It was written for me by Michael James Down and Jonas Gladnikoff. It’s written for awareness with regards to psychological abuse in relationships.

What is your impression of the Eurovision Song Contest in general? Do you watch it every year? What is your favourite entry?

I watch it every year and I never miss it. I love the festival and of course to watch that wonderful show is amazing, imaging if you are on that stage! My favourite entry ever is “Molitva”.

Apart from the Eurovision Song Contest, where would you dream to do a performance?

Well of course in Las Vegas, to perform with Celine Dion or Bruno Mars!

Can you tell us about your first experience with music?

My first experience was at school while I was singing in the school choir at the age of 6.

How do you describe your music to people?

While I’m singing I like to deliver a lot of emotions to people, and to leave a good impact.

What is a typical day like for you?

Work, shopping, cleaning, cooking and taking care of my daughter.

What is the best bit of advice you have ever been given?

To never give up, and it’s never too late!

If your life was a song title, what would it be?

“What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger”.

We would like to thank Eleanor for her time talking to us and wish her the best of luck for Malta Eurovision Song Contest tomorrow evening!
