Stockholm, 12 February 2022
Sweden’s Melodifestivalen is hitting its stride, with the second live show being aired tonight. The prestigious festival, hosted in Stockholm and presented by Oscar Zia and tonight’s guest host Eva Rydberg, will eventually decide which song and artist shall represent Sweden in the 2022 Eurovision song contest, to be held in Turin. Rydberg stole the show, performing the opening act dressed as a Rio Carnival dancer, and went to perform two of the shows’s interval acts (including a multilingual version of “Rena Rama Ding Dong” with her friend Ewa Roos)
Tonight saw the following Line-up compete:
- LIAMOO – “Bluffin’”
- Niello ft Lisa Ajax – “Tro du att jag bryr mig”
- Samira Manners – “I want to be loved”
- Alvaro Estella – “Suave”
- Browsing Collection – “Face in the crowd”
- John Lundvik – “Änglavakt”
- Tone Sekelius – “My way”
John Lundvik re-enters the contest after having won it in 2019, while Melfest veterans may recognize the names of Lisa Ajax, Alvaro Estrella and Liamoo, who have partcipated several times before. Tone Sekelius is the first post-OP trans person to compete in Melodifestivalen.
After the 7 songs were performed, fans had a short time window to cast their votes via the app or televote. After that, the first part of the results came in.
Like last week, the first result announced the current leader of the televote. He or she would then be declared Direkt Til Finalen (autoqualified for the finale), when the vote reopens for the six remaining acts.
This week, the favourite before the show started effortlessly won the vote, as Liamoo was declared the first direct qualifier. John Lundvik then effortlessly won the second vote, with a sizeable margin over Alvaro Estrella and Tone Sekelius, who will join Theoz and Danne Stråhed in the semifinal (known in previous years as “Andra Chansen“).
DtF: Liamoo, Lundvik
AC: Alvaro, Tone
Out: Niello & Lisa, Samira, Browsing Collection.
