LTV, the Latvian national broadcaster, has announced that they will be keeping the old Dziesma competition format for their national final selection for 2014.
Just like last year, there will be a total of 24 songs selected to compete in the two semi-finals – a setup similar to Eurovision. The six songs with the lowest score (juries in Latvia give the best song 1 point – the equivalent of its place, second best song 2 points, third song 3 points, etc.) combination of the juries and televote will proceed to the national final on February 1st in Ventspils. The two semi final nights will be held on January 18th and 19th in Riga. Dziesma will retain the 50-50 jury/televote system as last year.
Last year, PeR won Dziesma 2013 with their song “Here we go”, winning top placement with both the televoters and jury panel. However, in Malmö, they only got 13 points and landed on last place in their Semi Final.

Thank you, Roy der Merwe!
We hope the same, and I bet we don’t disappoint public this year.
Good luck to all baltic states next year!
Interesting fact: Last time all Baltic states were in Final, was in 2002, when the contest was held in Tallinn 🙂
