Latvia will be hoping to end their absence from the Eurovision final in 2015.

It seems Latvia – who have been out of the Eurovision final longer than any other country – are ready to show Europe what they can do! The Latvian broadcaster recently announced the Baltic nation would have a new selection process in 2015 entitled “Supernova”.

The show takes Latvia away from the Eirodziesma format of recent years and invites soloists and groups to bring a song worthy of winning Eurovision next year to end a dismal run of results. Three semi-final shows will take place on February 2nd, 8th and 15th with the national final to be held on February 22nd 2015. A mix of televoting and jury will decide which of the four finalists will represent Latvia in the Eurovision Song Contest and hopefully end the country’s six year wait for a final participation.

Latvia won the contest in 2002 with Marie N’s “I Wanna” but since 2008 the country has had a poor performance, finishing last in the semi-final three times and failing to reach the final for six years in a row. Aarzemnieki in 2014 achieved the most points for a Latvian entry since 2008 but still failed to qualify.

Latvia was last represented in the Eurovision final by Pirates of the Sea in 2008, finishing 12th with “Wolves of the Sea”.

If you are a composer and wish to submit a song to represent Latvia you can do so using the Supernova 2015 web form here.
