Our final interview prior to the first Pabandom iš naujo heat is with Joseph June.

Joseph June is a musician who first appeared in the Lithuanian pre-selection last year with the song “Deadly”. Since then he has three singles titled “You & I”, “Perfect”, and “The One” – with the latter two appearing to be part of the same EP as his Pabandom iš naujo entry “Vacuum”. 2023 will mark his second attempt to make it to the Eurovision stage.

Welcome to ESCUnited.com Joseph, we’re glad we were able to grab you for an interview before your heat this coming Saturday! Why don’t you introduce yourself to our readers?

I’m a Lithuanian musician known as Joseph June. My music is heavily based on R&B, hip hop, and pop genres.

Now let’s do some rapid fire questions to help our readers get to know you better – you’re going to karaoke with friends and you have three performance slots to fill. What songs will you be performing and why?

First – Down In Atlanta by Pharrell and Travis Scott. This song is such a bop and it doesn’t even require you to know all the lyrics.

Second – Tiek Jau To by Monika Liu. I really like slow and romantic music which helps me put myself in a dreamy mood.

Third – This Love by Maroon5. This is such a banger.

Your YouTube biography says that your music is not tied to one genre or idea, but is a mash of different musical seasonings. So I’m curious to ask – how would you describe your sound to our readers?

I would describe my sound as tight, groovy and catchy. Sometimes with a  sentimental mood.

If you had the opportunity to collaborate with any artist or artists of your choosing, who would you choose to work with and why?

Since I really listen to a lot of American music, I would really like to collaborate with Steve Lacy, Pharrell. There are also Lithuanian musicians that I admire. For example, Free Finga or Monika Liu.

Most of your songs seem to focus on the theme of love and relationships, can you tell us a bit more about why this seems to be such a central theme in your music?

Since I am a self-reflective person who wants to know myself as much as possible, I really like to delve deep into these questions of love, self-esteem, self-worth. My recent music is all about individual growth.

Last year was your first time competing in the Lithuanian national selection Pabandom is Naujo, what did you learn from your experience last year?

I learned that a concert and Eurovision performance are really two separate things. I noticed that Eurovision performance is more like a music video.

Based on my research I noticed that your PiN entry “VACUUM” seems to have been written around the same time as your recent releases “Perfect” and “The One”. Were these all potential entries for the selection, or was “Vacuum” the only option for you?

“Vacuum” was the only option for me. I have written this specific song with a reason for it to be a Eurovision song. It has a specific structure and a whole vibe to it.

What can our readers expect to see from you on the Pabandom is Naujo stage?

You can definitely expect a catchy song for starters. The whole performance is very energetic and catchy (at least in my opinion). It’s just a groove bomb.

For those who want to connect with you all ahead of or after the selection– where can they find you and your music?

You can find me anywhere on the internet. Youtube, Facebook, spotify. Any of you can write me an Instagram message.

In closing, do you have a final message you’d like to share with the readers of ESCUnited?

Thank you for your interest in my performance. I’m really looking forward to seeing it myself.

Joseph June is set to compete in the first heat of Pabandom iš Naujo 2023 set for January 21st at 20:00 CET. The winner of the show will earn the right to represent Lithuania at the Eurovision Song Contest in Liverpool this coming May.
