A quick update concerning Italy’s entry: The annual host country draw took place this morning, during which it was decided that Italy would perform in 9th position during the Grand Final of Eurovision 2022, set to take place on 14 May.
Ever since 2013, the running order of the show has been decided by the producers of the show (a system they took from Melodifestivalen) to ensure the variety between the entrants stood out more. However, the host country’s position in the running order has always been decided via a random draw to avoid bias accusations.
Thus, Italy will perform 9th in the Grand Final, as decided by a random draw suprevised by Eurovision’s Executive Suprevisor Martin Österdahl. The draw puts Italy near the end of the second quarter, the zone where the projected winners wind up after they draw ‘First Half’. Måns Zelmerlöw (#10), Salvador Sobral (#11) and Duncan Laurence (#12) all won from this zone. Slot #09 has to yet claim a victory however. Will Italy break this curse?
