One of the biggest rising acts currently on the Italian pop music scene, X Factor runners-up Måneskin, have mentioned in an interview with Radio Italia that they would like to do Eurovision, but concede that it would imply they would win Sanremo first, according to our friends over at Eurofestival News.
The four piece band hailing from Rome were the second placed contestants in The X Factor in 2017 behind Lorenzo Licitra, and have since gone on to top the Italian charts with their their single “Torna a casa”, as well as reaching number 2 with “Chosen” and “Morirò da re”. With the release of their debut album earlier in October – “Il ballo della vita” – and their music videos racking up views in the millions, does this signal the upturn in interest in Eurovision in Italy?
“We’d like it because it would involve winning Sanremo, which isn’t bad! It would be a good experience to share such a stage with some of the top European artists and be a part of it,” the band muses; “But right now, we have 50 dates to do!”
In truth, the group, consisting of Damiano David, Victoria de Angelis, Thomas Raggi and Ethan Torchio have a lot of promotional dates for their new album to do, with a sold out tour across Italy and beyond leading into early 2019, thus ruling out a participation in Sanremo next year.
Could the group take to the Sanremo stage in 2020, and perhaps onto Eurovision? Let’s have our fingers crossed!
