Following their Eurosong win back in January giving them the tickets to represent Ireland at this year’s Eurovision Song Contest in Malmö, Sweden; Bambie Thug has released the video for Doomsday Blue.
The video is expectedly reflective of the Bambie Thug brand, where the visual elements of Wicca and the Occult feature heavily throughout. The video’s verses and bridge are primarily based in a candle-light bathroom of an austere period mansion where Bambie finds herself in the middle of a pentagram summoning demons. In the song’s juxtaposing smooth melodic moments the camera pans outside, where they are dancing in a field with sheep in broad daylight. A hairy Adam’s Family Cousin Itt type figure is eventually conjured, and a dalliance between the two ensues.
Doomsday Blue is co- written by Bambie Thug, Olivia Cassy Brooking, Sam Matlock and produced by Tylr Rydr.
Bambie Thug
Bambie Thug is a non-binary artist from a predominantly musical theatre background. Originally from Cork, they are based in London where they garnered great attention for their live shows. They describe their sound as Ouija pop and their style is heavily tinged by the occult.
In their own words they describe the perpetually genre-shifting track as “it transports you from alt witchy verses to killer screams, pop choruses, a jazzy middle-eight, before ending in a metallic roar of electro and heavy guitars. It perfectly showcases the different facets of me as an artist. I can be explosive and hard-hitting, but I can also be sweet and soulful”.
