The old phrase “gone but not forgotten” comes to mind this evening, as despite the country’s withdrawal from the contest in Rotterdam, Hungary’s selection process A Dal began tonight with the first heat taking place.
With the competition continuing without the main prize of a Eurovision participation, there have been a number of changes to the format this year. Notably, the increased focus on local talent and Hungarian music means that all of the songs participating are in Hungarian. Secondly, the televoting only starts after all ten songs have been performed, a change on previous years.
The following ten acts took part tonight;

- Varga Szabolcs – Pillanat
- Horus x Marcus ft. Bori Fekete – Tiszavirág
- YA OU – Légy valaki másnak
- HolyChicks – Pillangóhatás
- Muriel – Kávés
- Bogi Nagy – Maradok
- Zaporozsec – Találj Rám
- Denés Pál – Készen állsz
- Fatal Error – Néma

Ten more acts will compete in next week’s heat to advance to the semi-finals of A Dal 2020.
