Five artists will battle it out in Spain’s first national final for three years for the right to represent them in the Eurovision Song Contest in May.

The Spanish broadcaster, TVE, confirmed the news, alongside the names of the singers who will appear: Ruth Lorenzo, Jorge González, La Dama, Raúl and Brequette.  The show will be televised in February. The winner will sing in the Grand Final on the 10 May, to try and bag Spain’s first win since 1969.

Written in part by herself, a pop song in English and Spanish.

Lorenzo had been rumoured to become Spain’s representative, and has now been confirmed to be in the running. She will ring bells will some UK fans, as she came fifth in the X-Factor there, back in 2008, with Dannii Minogue as her mentor.

Written and performance managed by the same team behind Spain’s 2012 effort, Pastora Soler.

Brequette, born in South Africa, is currently working on her debut album, and also appeared on Spain’s The Voice (La Voz).

Jorge González

 Aunque Se Acabe El Mundo

A pop song written by four experienced music professionals.

Eurovision fan Jorge has previously participated in the 2009 Spanish national final, and recently come runner-up of La Voz.

La Dama

Estrella Fugaz 

Written by Melendi, her partner and popular Spanish artist, and described as mid-tempo electro-pop.

Real name Damaris Abad, she is currently working on her second album.

Raúl

Seguir Sin Ti 

A big, emotional ballad.

An experienced singer, with six albums to his name, Raúl came close to representing Spain in 2000, coming second in their national final that year. Sueño Su Boca, the song he presented in 2000, gained him acclaim, and won the Spanish Music Award for Best New Artist.
