In a new group of editorials taking a look at the past and present of Junior Eurovision Song Contest entrants, we will be checking out what the former JESC contestants are up to now and how far they have come since representing their nation in the Junior edition of Europe’s favourite TV show.
In this edition we will be taking a look at the 2008 representative of Malta, Daniel Testa, who represented his nation with the song “Junior Swing” in Lemesos, Cyprus when he ended in 4th place.
Since Junior Eurovision Daniel has not given up on his music, he has continued to record music and has not given up on his dream of taking home the Eurovision trophy. It came as a surprise to many Eurovision fans when Daniel became one of the favourites to represent his nation in 2014, this time for the adult version of Europe’s greatest song contest. His song “One last Ride” was an uptempo modern pop song which was a fan favourite in Malta Eurovision Song Contest 2014, although he ended 3rd, being beaten by the group Firelight who went on to Copenhagen to represent Malta who ended 1st in the Maltese final, and De Bee who ended in second position. In 2015 Daniel once again tried his luck in the Maltese final, this time ending in 6th place.
Daniel is not only a singer, he also had became a radio DJ on one of Malta’s top radio stations, Radio Bay. His show is currently on at 15:30 CET each day entitled Drivetime. When Malta hosted the 2014 Junior Eurovision Song Contest Daniel was asked to commentate on the show for the online broadcast on JuniorEurovision.tv, which was held the week before he participated in the Maltese final for the 2015 Eurovision Song Contest.
Will Daniel attempt to represent his nation in the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest? Submissions open next week for the Maltese song search.
