It was previously announced by ourselves, after speaking with RTE, that the Irish announcement of plans for Stockholm would be made in September / October. Today in another conversation with RTE, they have explained the reason for this delay.
RTE have revealed that their initial plan to reveal their plans for the 2015 Eurovision Song Contest have been delayed, they are examining their performance over recent years and analysing the way they have selected songs. This news provides evidence that they are likely to change the format they have used recently to select their entries.
The Irish broadcaster has said that the “review of our performance over the last number of years” has caused the postponement of the announcement, and their is still a possibility of the decision being made in November / December, and no later than January.
Ireland is the most successful country in the Eurovision Song Contest, winning it 7 times, although they have not had much luck in recent years. They made the final in 2013, although ended in last place, in 2014 and 2015 Ireland failed to qualify for the final. Ireland did, however make the top 10 in 2011 when Jedward represented their nation with “Lipstick”.
