In an interview with the newspaper Vorarlberger Nachrichten, the general director of the Austrian broadcaster ORF Alexander Wrabetz revealed that the dates for the upcoming Eurovision Song Contest have already been decided on – therefore the grand final will take place on 23 May with the respective semi finals being scheduled for 19 and 21 May. However, a decision regarding the host city hasn’t been made yet.
Two weeks ago, ORF technicians were sent to the three potential venues in Graz, Innsbruck and Vienna. Last week official negotiations between the Eurovision 2015 core team and the respective host cities took place. Rumour has it that it’s a neck-and-neck race between Vienna and Innsbruck.
According to Wrabetz, a decision regarding the host city can be expected in late July or early August. “The halls in Innsbruck, Graz and Vienna all meet our requirements. That’s why we could already determine 23 May as final date. The Song Contest will therefore take place in one of those three halls,” the ORF director said. That also means speculations such as the construction of a new hall in Vienna are now off the table.
