Just one thing for semi 2: please, take it slower when it comes to announce the finalists, I didn't even have time to get nervous!

Thanx STV for a great show!
I was very happy with Petra as a host! She was very to-the-point, efficient, professional. And I am VERY happy that she didn't fall for this "american-idol" way of just waiting and waiting and waiting to announce each of the finalists... I have always found that utterly annoying - and it has been so over-used in a zillion of bad tv-shows and reality shows these last years...
The time scedule worked to perfection.

#01 :at: Really lovely song i could imagine her winning the whole contest , too bad she didn't made in
#02 :ee: I am happy for her *__* but the song is bad for me, while lyrics are good(in all song translations), good use of effects.
#03 :sl: Boring dubstep song , voice don't fit the song same as lyrics , only good thing in this performance are dancers and their outfits
#04 :hr: Falling asleep song
#05 :dk: Very catchy song with simple lyrics, lovely music and lovely performer (My Personal Winner)
#06 :ru: Love her voice, love the song , love the girl she is rly charming, good use of bracelets (My Personal Winner №3)
#07 :ua: Another Quality song with good music, lyrics, staging and performer (My Personal Winner №2)
#08 :nl: Another Falling asleep song but more boring than others... This song made in finale just becouse of Anouk Fame, absence in finale since 2005 and juries help
#09 :me: While i don't love dupstep i can say that this song was good enough to qualify , the only problem for them were juries
#10 :lt: Like the music, like how strange are the performer and lyrics and in same time hate his ~~
#11 :by: Dont like this song at all, looks like cheap Balkan song
#12 :md: Surprise of the night , love the dress and like that she sing in other language, because English lyrics were bad
#13 :ie: Cant say anything bad about this song, guy has good voice, music is decent
#14 :cy: Another Falling asleep song .
#15 :be: Nightmare of the night, i think his dancers saved him.
#16 :rs: Also cant say anything bad, maybe they problem was their actions and dresses ?

mY top 10 in semifinal 1

I agree. I think there was enough time between each announced country. I had time to register what country/song/artist had been announced, react accordingly (Ukraine: "well duh", Lithuania: "seriously? what the...?!?", Belgium: "are you kidding me?", Denmark: "well who would have guessed?"), and then I was ready for the next one. No point in dragging it out, especially if they leave such obvious qualifiers for the last few spots.

I agree! The only time they should slow down a bit is when #10 is going to get announced

I totally agree with you. She waited with the last and most exciting result and it turned out effectively. BTW just to be a joy-killing a$$, she's not with Scottish TV nor with Slovak Television :p:p, its Sveriges Television SVT. :D

I do not get all the love for Ukraine. I thought the song was run-of-the-mill, and the background vocals weirdly reminded me of Mr. President's "Coco Jambo". I think Denmark would be a much more solid and deserved winner.

Petra Mede only said a few lines in French, which is sad because she had a wonderful accent and spoke very well actually. She was very funny and lively, definitely a better host than either Germany or Azerbaijan!

This. Petra is possibly the first ESC host in the last 10 years that didn't fill me with the urge to propel my shoe towards the TV. Although her rather posh pronunciation of 'Green Room' was rather amusing, she just loved to enunciate everything to the max.

I enjoyed the smaller, more intimate staging of this ESC. I've also heard that the acoustics in the stadium are much better than previous ESC venues. Maybe it was the quality of the acts, but the entries actually sounded better to me.

I also enjoyed the short interlude video by Lynda Woodruff, okay it was more of the same (intentionally mispronouncing place names, a possible jibe at the average English tourist), but I found it shamelessly entertaining nonetheless. The UK commentators were ripping into her accent, but until I looked her up on Wiki, I thought she was raised in Essex.

As for the qualifiers, I'm happy to see Belgium and the Netherlands qualify, but I would have preferred to have seen Montenegro qualify over the likes of Belarus (which as a song, could have been taken from any of the ESCs in the last 13 years).

Oh and finally, in terms of the UK broadcasting, Lord that American commentator was annoying! Extremely dull commentary this year, but at least they didn't talk over the acts or anything.

The show was good, very modest, I liked that. But the hostess... She sounded like a quidditch-speaker, with a really annoying booming voice. And I suspect some of the northern lights was not filmed in Sweden at all, but at Senja in Norway. Not that it really matters. I also found the comedy-lady going to Jukkasjärvi (yep, I've been there) funny, the Joanna Lumley parody was hilarious ("Joanna Lumley in the Land of the Northern Lights", great show, it's online) :)

Turns out I was right, the swedes cheated ;) And I have a trained eye when it comes to my own surroundings, even at night.

I thought it was very well done, it did feel very Melodifestivalen to me though. Petra Mede was brilliant, but she didn't seem too well-received by the Irish commentator, or an Irish news website that was live-blogging the semi, or most of my friends on Twitter. All the performances looked as I would've expected, except that Roberto Bellarosa was very nervous-looking, and Emmelie de Forest seemed as if the confidence got to her head.

One thing I found so so weird was that all the ex-Yugo countries failed to qualify last night. Like I was thinking about it and the only conclusion I could think of was that Slovenia must’ve voted for Croatia who must’ve voted for Serbia who must’ve voted for Montenegro who must’ve voted for Slovenia and they all knocked each other out. But I just don’t get it at all really, because Serbia was really good, and they were allegedly great at the Jury Rehearsal, and Croatia was something that would’ve charmed the Jury to no end.

On the other end of the spectrum, ALL of the ex-USSR countries qualified from last night. And that makes me wonder about my theory about all the ex-Yugo countries’ votes cancelling each other out. But I still don’t get how a mediocre ballad like Estonia and a trashy pop number like Belarus got through and a slightly less trashy pop number like Serbia and the amazingly classy and calming and structured Croatia didn’t, especially with the Jury playing a larger role now since 2010.

It seems kind of fixed in a way, and knowing Bjorkman’s involvement in it, that’s not too far away from the truth. The problem is if Macedonia fails to qualify tomorrow night, then that could add credence to the theory that it’s rigged, with all ex-Yugo countries gone. on the other hand, if they DO qualify, with such a terrible song that makes no sense at all, then that also adds to the theory.

This year, more than ever, i’m DYING to see the split jury/televote results, and the voting results for the semi final.

It'll be as usual, the overall split results will be mystically released in two months time, of course we won't be seeing the split results by each country jury... which with the new ranking system would be even more crucial to release.

I don't trust EBU for a second tbh, the lack of transparency and the bringing back of juries who seem to have an agenda rather than voting as professionals... I don't like it at all.

it's not even having an agenda like, it's that such a small group of people like the jury can be bribed a tonne easier than bribing everyone in the country with a telephone. weren't there allegations a few years ago that Azerbaijan was buying votes from the Maltese jury? it just comes across as so fixed this year in comparison to other years. i'm convinced that Emmelie de Forest could get sick all over the stage and throw stones at the audience on Saturday and she'd still win because that's how Bjorkman and Berberes and their friends want it.

Haha hilarious!!! :D And what would the Danish bribe Björkman with? Kirsebaervin made from genuine Danish Stevnsbær?

A liftime supply of svinekød.

Crazy voting-idea: I think there should only be an Australian jury. Participating countries first announce their points normally (televotes only). Then the Australian jury gives 5 points to number 25, 10 points to number 24, 15 points to number 23,...., 120 points to their second-favorite, 125 to their favorite.

Pros:
-The jury is more objective. Harder to bribe, no neighbours to vote for.
-It's unlikely we know who the winner is before the last points have been awarded.
-The people of Europe get back most of the power.

I know neighbour-voting was a bigger problem before, but it's not like the juries are completely objective either. They are likely to favor a country for cultural/geographical/political reasons, and a bribed jury is far worse than Cypriots voting for Greece.
