Those of you who participated in the LL for SF 1, please take note of the following.

Yaponesia has sent us a new version of their entry. It's the same artist and the same song, but the difference is that the song is sung in Japanese. This is due to the problematic nature of the original version. One of the moderators is aware of this change; therefore, I allowed it.

Introducing a new feature of the recap generator... automatic clip selection!

The recap generator now attempts to detect choruses within each song and will automatically select the best clip based on this.

Here's an example of its handiwork in the form of a precap:


For songs with a non-traditional structure the recap generator will generally fail to find a chorus and the user will have to specify a clip manually. However, this is relatively uncommon - this happened with only 7/55 songs this edition (see if you can guess which ones :p).

P.S. The semi recaps will be coming tomorrow morning, I just need to make sure there aren't any errors and then upload them!

It first converts the audio to a "chroma", i.e. a 12 x n array of the musical notes at each time step, where n is the number of time steps. Then it computes a similarity matrix of the chroma with itself with various time lags, looking for the parts of the song that have high similarity to other parts. The best match is identified as the chorus.

To be honest I started coding this and then realised that most of it has already been done: there's an existing Python package called Pychorus that does exactly this. So it wasn't too much work in the end, I just needed to integrate it into the existing recap generator.

Thanks to Vermillion and Reym-L-Dneurb for making it much easier for me to decide my next entry. ^^ Both acts were on my possible entry list (each with a different song) for 239 and i won't send an act which was sent just one edition before. :D That reduce my options down to two songs. :)
