In this thread you should name the best top 3 NF songs that never reached Eurovision from your country. Not just from this year but throughout the history of Eurovision.

For me it is.

1. Star Pilots Higher 2009

2. Nattens Drottning 1989

3. Du och jag mot världen 2005

1- Magnifico - Silvija (1998)

This song became evergreen in Slovenia. It's still playing on radio stations. If you go on a roadtrip from Trieste to Hungary or vice versa and listen to some local radio station, there's a good chance you'll hear it
I personally love it too and its closest eurovision relative would be :sm: "I didn't know" - Both are disco pop with a charismatic performer with a deep sexy voice.
Though he never went to eurovision he was behind Sestre in 2002 as a songwriter and is very famous in the whole ex-yu region.

2- Rebeka Dremelj & Domen Kumer - Noro se ujameva (2006)

This is my first EMA memory as a fan. (I remember some older stuff, but the very next day i moved on with my life) This however made me obsessed. It's so fun and cheeky in the same way as my future personal eurovision winners are: - :ro:Romania 2010 and :uk:UK 2015. The entire song is basically a conversation between the two and i love that.
I'm so sad that Rebeka went to eurovision with a song that wasn't that great as she had some great hits in her time.
Domen is still making absolute bangers in my opinion but i think rasmuslights would disagree and that's all you need to know

3- Langa - Za svobodo divjega srca (2008)

This was the first time i felt like we could get a top 10 result and i still think so. The song has ethnic sounds that were all the rage at the time and they still are today. It also includes your typical balkan ballad elements which again proved to be very sucsessful at the time. They won the first round of voting, but in the superfinal i think there was some anti voting going on because Langa are a gypsy duo. It still makes me frustrated when i think about it. They tried two more times after that with similarly good songs and sadly gave up after that.

:de: Germany

#1 Knorkator - Ick wer zun Schwein (2000)

Avant-garde, progressive, provocative, too good to be true. A triumphant song levelling criticism at consumption and how the things we do to our body (what we consume) may change our identity. Seriously, what a thought-provoking piece of art. The climax at the end, when the lead singer imitates a pig, is such a humorous, clever way to impress listeners! That entry was too good to be true :(

#2 Marianne Rosenberg - Er gehört zu mir (1975)

A monster hit which is still quite popular among Germans. It's crazy to believe that Marianne Rosenberg only finished #10 with such a disco banger. An iconic piece of Disco Schlager which could have enriched Eurovision history :( That ESC classic that got away :(

#3 Aly Ryan - Wear Your Love

The half-assed performance aside, this was Top 10 material if NDR/Germany had actually put some effort into the staging. I still can't believe "S!sters" won over this perfect pop song. It's like we don't deserve nice things :( It's still painful to see how often we left either international-like pop anthems or typically German/something progressive/unique/local behind in favor of generic, soulless, raido-friendly mess (Sister, Black Smoke, Perfect Life etc). Aly Ryan was a victim to NDR's bosses when Germany was trolling ESC.

1)La Compagnie Créole - Vive le Douanier Rousseau (1983)

This song and band was famous in France so it was a surprise to discover that they try to participate at Eurovision

2)Seemone - Tous les deux (2019)

I really love the emotion of this song and this voice

3)Ginie Line - La même histoire (1999)

Maybe kitch but it's so catchy to compare with the song we sent

Another good song of Fredrik Kempe which could have been sent by Sweden in 2004 is

But an even better and also funny song that year was this

Sweden sent a quit poor and repetitive song Det gör ont instead probably because people wanted to see the great Lena Philipsson in Eurovision.

oh i like this topic!

Kerli's first (and best if you'd ask me) attempt to represent Estonia at Eurovision

My personal huge fave, the lyrics are really good (abt how people don't know how to take the time off and become machines by always rushing and so on)

And of course Vanilla Ninja, infamously winning the televote, when only jury votes mattered. It has not aged super well, but oh what a hit

(i'm also gonna add Opera on Fire here, cause why not)

(i sincerely forgot abt meiecundimees üks Korsakov läks eile Lätti for a moment here, but i'm sure esc fandom knows it)

Thankyou for liking the thread. Interesting list by you. By the way do you know that Estonia and Sweden was the same country from 1561 to 1721?

i did have history lessons at school, yes. wouldn't call it as same country, more like Sweden having a fight over control of the Baltic sea and all the lands and people surrounding it. it's not remembered very badly though, cause in comparison to the Russian and German times the life was better.

*Tallinn (it's a pet peeve for every estonian if you misspell the capital and yet, almost everyone who's been here does that, lol)

why did i go searching for this horrifying thing? what did they do to Kerli? who allowed this? Melodifestivalen just killing artists on the inside... why why why so many questions and it's the wrong thread anyway.... (i mean, considering the year it's not a complete disaster, but i never wanted to see this)

1. Caroline af Ugglas - Snälla snälla (2009)

2. Louise Hoffsten - Only the dead fish follow the stream (2013)

3. Sara Varga - Spring för livet (2011)

Honorable mentions:

But for me Melodifestivalen is one of the least interesting NFs

Really fun thread idea btw, @freerider

I follow our Belgian NF since 2004 so this list is from 2004 until 2025.
It's also only from the Flemish NF (in Belgium one year the Flemish broadcaster chooses the entry and the other year the Walloon broadcaster).

1) Roxanne - Television Game (2004)

2) Els De Schepper - Als ik je morgen ergens tegenkom (2006)

3) Belle Perez - El Mundo Bailando (2006)

Carola could have won Eurovison in 1990 instead of 1991 if Mitt i ett äventyr had won Melodifestivalen.

But som en vind is good to.
