In my opinion Malta should withdraw for a year or two as punishment... Coming dead last in their semi both 2023 and 2024 despite great staging and performances because of having no obvious geopolitical neighbors :-/

Nowadays people should get punished for not voting for mediocre entries?

Youre sooo right. If :mt: really wants to be successful again they should finally send songs that get more reactions than just "meh". xshrug

And the argument with "no neighbours" is just stupid. xfacepalm

To be honest. I think Loop and the 2023 entry would've done better had Poland/Sweden sent them, etc. Still, they were mediocre entries no matter what, and I would not call them robbed by any means.

That's probably right but diaspora/neighbouring friends don't make a song qualiy, e.g. Poland 2024, Greece 2023 - even in televoting-only semis.

Actually, I was surprised that "Loop" even got so many televoting points, i.e. it had last-place written all over it.
It was a generic (but fun and well-performed) pop track - I couldn't see people having the track as their #1 or even Top 3, tbh and unlike the juries, the televoters only vote for their favourite songs - mostly only 1 or 2 songs.. they won't be voting for their #10 - just because "it's better than my #11 or #12 and deserves to qualify but I will be ditching my bigger favourites").

If Malta want to qualify again, they need to step up their game.

Could this be Matt Blxck's song for MESC 2025? I know it's very early, but he rarely publishes music outside of MESC. I don't know if the song would be eligible for MESC though, since it was released a few months ago at this point. Maybe they'd let it slide, since it has very few views anyway.

If it's out before September, it's out.

We had the opportunity to send Kaya ‘First Time’ and Raquela ‘If I could do it all again’. Two song robbed!!!!! We need songs like this for 2025!

No more Matt black and Sarah… it reminds me of the dark times of Morena and Olivia. We need quality songs no more cheap “fast-food music”

Withdrawing as punishnent - what a weird concept. What law / (moral) imperativ was violated by Malta coming last? Whom would a withdrawl punish? Why would it punish anyone? In what way would viewers be punished who didn‘t like the maltese entries in the first place when not having to ignore another one?
The only one who is „punished“ is the country (respectively their people) who withdraws itself cuz it‘s not part of the event.

I don't get it, either.
It's not like :mt: came up with their magnum opus or something competitive, to begin with.
I fail to see how fans can advocate for "withdrawing as punishment" when a country submit a generic and basic mess and gets what it deserved (I know that finishing last is "cruel" but that's usually where basic pop songs with uneventful performances finish in televoting, the song has been dead upon arrival).

Just send Erba with a song similar to Sirena or something, or bring Aidan

Let's be honest, neither Erba or Aidan would come near the top 10 anyway. MESC (and other iterations of Mala's preselections) have always been a mess full of mediocre songs. Being the best of a bunch of bad songs is one thing, but comparing Sirena or any of Aidan's entries to actual eurovision performances... yeah, they wouldn't stand a chance. I also don't understand where the idea of calling for Malta to withdraw came from, but I certainly do think they need to change their formula if they want to actually at least qualify to the final in may.

I 100% agree with what you said, but the reason I want them to send Erba is not for them to do well, it's just to get a song I love

So true. I still don't understand why they changed the formula from their 2019-2021 era. They qualified both times and got really good results (14th and 7th place are great for such a small country, especially when they never qualify with their mesc entries, the exception being ira losco in 2016 and even that song was then changed, so basically they didn't qualify once in the last 9 years with their mesc entries)

Sure but 17th or 18th place in the final sounds a lot better that last place in the semi which has been their result these past two years.

So apparently : 24 songs, two semis, 8 Qs per semi, 16 songs final (expect them to give a wild card out of nowhere too)

Ready for another shitshow here lol
