Urgent Handling non-voters

It has come to our attention that there was some inconsistency with how non-voters were handled in the NSC 216 final. Yaponesia voted 30 minutes after the deadline, Orangualia voted 4 hours 40 minutes after the deadline, and Šilček voted 10 hours after the deadline. Šilček's votes were accepted, but Yaponesia's and Orangualia's were both rejected.

The host's rationale was that they wanted to do something kind for Šilček, who had been thinking of withdrawing. However, regardless of any good intentions, we need to stress that this is not acceptable. The rules allow the host a lot of flexibility with how they handle late voters, and we trust hosts not to misuse this power, applying a consistent standard that treats everyone equally.

In this situation, it is perfectly fine to decide to be kind and accept Šilček's votes, but the same courtesy must be extended to all other nations who voted up to that point. Choosing to accept some votes but not others can have a big impact on the results, so it's important to have the same standard for everyone to make things fair -- not just for the players who voted late, but also for everyone whose scores are affected by their votes.

Because of this, Yaponesia and Orangualia will not be punished for voting late. They are free to enter NSC 217 and will not receive any evil dots. Their votes are shown below. Fortunately, their votes do not affect the winner, and all PQs appear to be the same (albeit in a different order).

Yaponesia's votes

Orangualia's votes

This is what happens when late votes can be accepted, it leads to situations where the host can pick and choose whose votes are accepted or not and people feel slighted for subjective reasons. Luckily it did not change the winner.

Thank you ::ora for :8: xlove

Good decision.

Just for the sake of statistics and record keeping (I know it affects my own position, but I don't mind either way, I'm just happy with the PQ), are we keeping the 216 results as they were presented or changing them to include all votes?

We're not supposed to do retroactive changes, but you could argue we're still within a reasonable grace period.

The mods were talking about that in private and we came to the conclusion that it's best to ask the whole community what they think should be done with the votes since it's such a special circumstance, so a thread/poll should be up in not too long about that.

Glorious mess. Stop accepting late votes. I tend to allow for a grace period of 10 minutes or so, because people can have issues with connectivity and what not, but beyond that if I haven´t heard from you it's just not going to be accepted. This is not real life where deadlines are just things managers do because it makes them feel like they are useful, this is a dead serious game where people have an increased perception of the size of their genitals after experiencing success. It's time we start acting like it.

Yes, this was never meant to be an attack on @MARCOMEN as a person at all, and I hope it's not taken as such. xrose

This was simply just a situation that needed to be dealt with in public as swiftly as possible while the edition was still fresh.
