Not enough moderation at the political section/Freedom of Speech

Well like the title says it is a problem. I know that I am one of the people who used to complain that there was too much activity by the mods before, but instead of the hard censorship we had before, it would be useful to have some mechanism to keep the topics there at least somewhat on topic. I suggest either a) starting to split the topics into new ones by the mods if they get off topic and stay so for a while (like for example splitting the circumcision posts from the cultural topic or the socialism/communism/maoism posts in the political figures topic) or b) have some kind of warning system like other forums and start giving off warning points for going too off topic/flaming and restrict the access to that section to users who have received over a certain amount of warning points (yet not sure if this forum provider allows to set up that kind of system)

I just mentioned the politicians I like there, so you should talk to the people who quoted me and brought it to another issue.

I wouldnt say it's so off-topic. If revolutionaries are being discussed, obviously there has to be some reference to the events that they participated in/caused.

@ Archer - never talked about you
@ MHIY - it got quite off topic with those posts (i can find some link there, but if there hasn't been any political person mentioned while the topic is clearly about it - and things like palestine is not even related to any of the people mentioned earlier?). Basically I am not against off topic if it is either slightly off topic or only for a few posts, but recently majority of posts in many topics have been off topic (and i have also done several of those)

The political section of the board is actually very well controlled, just like all sections of this forum are. All of us are reading each and every post written in that subforum and as soon as we estimate that it is time to react - we are acting and dealing with problem(s) according to the forum rules.

Because people don't see our posts and massive warnings on the board does not mean that we don't send them, and it doesn't mean that there is not enough moderation. All users whose posts are problematic and all users that get sanctioned are aware of that, be sure.

It is good to make suggestions, and I personally always like to see what people think of our work, and what things they have to propose (nothing is perfect and we all make mistakes, so it is always helpful to hear what other people think), but I can't agree that there is not enough moderation at the political section, because that is simply not the case. As I said, each and every situation is closely monitored and followed, and as soon as a reaction is needed, we do react.

Well the past 2 days have shown that for example even Matt has started to troll in that section so I do not find like everything would be ok. Neither I find that the rules for that subsection should be the same as for example the games section.

The post in question that you are so outraged by was made by a person who is trolling the forum and the person knows that. I gave that person a fair chance to redeem himself. The leadership team is very well aware of that individual's actions and intent. Before making such accusations towards the leadership team, it may be a good idea to consider the fact that there are a lot of stuff available to us that are not available to you.

None of the Mods is censoring anybody, I called out a person who is known to troll our forum in the past and registered under a different user name, I didn't delete or edit his opinion.

Regarding the actual issue at hand: The political forum is constantly being moderated. Opinions are not edited or removed unless there are derogatory, offensive or inappropriate. There is always a level of subectivity as something may not be offended by certain posts while others are. So the Moderators have to make the best decision with the information at hand so it's unavoidable to give them some room for interpretation.

The obvious issue is the off topic issue. One example is the "Political Figures" convo where it turned into a discussion about different style of government & economic systems. That is something we work on constantly but we can't be on the forum 24/7 and it's up to community to take charge by either staying on topic or click on the "report" icon next to a post so we can review it as quickly as possible.

There are millions of people impressed by the ideas of Mao Zedong. He is a person who is loved by most of marxist-leninist socialists or communists anyway. Most of Chinese people worship him. So, just because you don't like Maoism, supporting it doesn't make somebody a troll.

And you really try to sound serious in front of the mods? I mean, you spread lies. I would discuss the statement in bold, and write how much of a lie that statement is, but this is not the topic for it.

How many Chinese people have you known so far ? me as well met a lot of people living there both in forums and in RL. Plus, I have friends who visited and found the opportunity to analyze the social status there.
