Countries sending the same thing over and over isn't fun or interesting at all. It's like the Netherlands and country style songs. They do well once by some miracle and then keep rehashing it over and over because they think they can do well with it. It's what Portugal tried this year and clearly had they been forced through a semi it would have crashed and burned. I don't think this is them doing what they want. Not in the same space that Georgia is with its unusual entries.
The Portuguese have sent ballads over the past two years, comparing them to the Dutch and their obsession with country music is a bit excessive imo
Honestly, I don't mind them sending another ballad next year - if appropriate - as long as the quality level remains high (since their return in 2017) and it doesn't sound like a sequel of a past entry: "O Jardim" didn't have anything to do with "Amar Pelos Dois", so I don't get what is wrong with that.
I look forward to their NF too because RTP managed to revamp it unexpectedly well. Personally, I like that they put the emphasis on artistry and sophistication recently, it's not like they were that successful when they used to send less qualitative entries, so should they be a flop again in the future, they might as well select an entry that aims higher than the average Eurovision effort, regardless of how slow or upbeat it is.![]()
For this year, the composers chosen by RTP are quite turned to alternative / independent ! Names like D.A.M.A, Calema, Conan Osiris, Surma can make great songs, quite different for Eurovision (I speak of Conan and Surma) ... But I think most of the songs continued to be ballads (unfortunately, because I liked more diversity),I hope also a good song by Frankie Chavez, mixing a ballad with a bit of rock !
Great article, I really like Conan too <3

Well, he is a very unknown artist in Portugal (he only started to be known 1 year ago, mainly by younger people) .... I personally met around June 2018,and in August, I went to a music festival that he performed there, and I saw the live (very good concert).
I do not know much about him, he does a lot of alternative music,I also read that he does the music in his own house... His lyrics are very funny, and meaningless (Very cool words) Overall, he makes compositions and seemingly "improper" genre combinations.
He is only the composer, not yet the information, that he will interpret his music, or will choose someone to sing... but a lot of curiosity to know what is going to leave here <3
But for now among the Portuguese fans of the Eurovision, Conan is also the favorite (I think it will be high in the televote) ... And of course, the most likely is to get my votes too.
Some songs from him

Next tuesday the host city for the final, as well as the singers and the entries will be announced.
It's not known yet wether we will get small snippets as usual or not, but rumour has it the full songs will be released.
I'm very excited but very terrified at the same time... I hope we'll be able to turn our win into a more high quality NF and more successful results in Eurovision, kinda like Austria did! But all the disappointing experiences I've lived as a Portuguese Eurovision fan pre 2017 still have an effect on me and still mke me think we'll all be disappointed next week![]()
D.A.M.A posted a snippet on instagram and it's speculated it might be their FdC song https://www.instagram.com/p/BslMqntnMCp/ (Nothing confirmed for a while )
