I'm debating whether to put the artist's name on now but we'll have to see how the next month pans out...

If Russia isn't taking part at this year's ESC, then write it down.

Re: RUSSIA 2018

Well the tropic should be changed the name: RUSSIA 2018 - Yulia Samoilova - ???

Already Rossiya 1 told that if Yulia won't be allowed in this year ESC, then automatically she will become the first confirmed artist for next year! xrose

Pretty sure Yulia is NOT going to represent Russia next year. They're going to claim her health has worsened or some other made up reason.

Ahh yes, Russia and its state bodies are paragons of fairness.

In all fairness Yulia was just a ploy for sympathy. There's so many incredible artists in Russia, they'll send someone fantastic next year now that they're even more pumped to win.

Re: RUSSIA 2018

BTW.. Unlike 1998-1999 previous EBU punishment, the next :ru: participation by EBU will be free and Rossiya1 won't be expend any money than C1 did this year as compensation!

Re: RUSSIA 2018

The First Channel General Director confirmed that Yulia Samoilova will represent Russia in 2018: "It's been already discussed with the EBU. They know that Russia will be represented by Yulia Samoilova".

Seems a bit premature. What if Ukraine wins and hosts again?

Will Ukraine be able to take part? From what I have seen the law states they may not broadcast a performance of someone who has been to Crimea by using a route other than Ukraine. It didn't seem an issue with JESC when the Russian representatives performed in Crimea but Ukraine still broadcast the performance, unless I am wrong?

I was wondering that too. If Samoylova is really to represent Russia next year, then logically Ukraine wouldn't be able to take part if they can't broadcast her performance (and if they don't get banned btw).

It depends of the Ministry of Culture and the National TV Broadcast Council officials and the channels (if it's about TV shows). If you talk about separate performance in some TV show nobody's gonna give a f--k during the broadcast  The channel can be fined after the broadcast, depends of the Council decision.
As of now Samoilova is not even in so-called "black list" of the ministry xshrug
