Wake me up when the UK take Eurovision seriously.

Blue weren't currently famous. They'd been broken up for over six years and were as much a nostalgia act as Bonnie or Engelbert. Gina G and Bucks Fizz's first hits were their Eurovision songs, so they weren't famous acts either.

Our last act who was currently famous was Sonia, although her career was already on the downturn. I can't see us having another famous singer any time soon.

Don't care if the artist is famous. I much prefer people like Joe & Jake who'll try their best and appreciate the experience. The current approach is fine, just needs better songs...

I think the UK has to give up on novelty, "contemporary pop"... We need to find a really good folk band from Scotland... An up and coming Northern Irish guitarist... An English/Welsh classicist... Something not cheap or manufactured but warm and inspiring... Good music, with a nod to our national instruments/musical style, killer vocals and actual legit staging.

Or send some heartfelt Morris-dancing inspired grime.

There were better songs, but the public in their infinite idiocy decided to ignore them. If there is to be a national final again next year, then they need to have a jury too.

The BBC would choose people like Pete Waterman

    Re: UNITED KINGDOM 2017

I wonder where Molly would have placed had she been in this years contest bearing in mind where Czech republic finished. Eurovision is changing like someone else said, I don't think the Uk is going to have a clue even with improved in-house selection.

I feel like we have the sympathy vote over the past few years, if we hadn't been one of the big 5, then we definitely wouldn't have qualified for the final some of these years. To even win 1 eurovision in a decade would be a major achievement, Uk completely out of touch. spain and italy are also not doing so well so I guess we're not alone. then again Italy won tele vote last year

Not gonna happen. They attempted to submit something in 2011 and were rejected, then the BBC approached them in 2012 but choose Englebert. Theo's said that if Russia asked, they'd submit a song to them, but not the UK.

I hope they keep the national final next year, it's a step in the right direction.

Apologies for somewhat cross-posting here (there are discussions about potential 2017 acts and approaches in this thread and the 2016 thread at the moment)... But in connection with my previous post about a possible direction the UK could take, a good example would be Seth Lakeman: https://youtu.be/nddD_zEVTDE
