As we introduced in the semifinals, this is a celebration of 'just missing out", running up, being the bridesmaid, however you wish to call it.
For today's semifinal results, we of course want to celebrate those who miss out! So unfortunately, that means 22 unfortunate nations will fail to achieve this great honour and qualify to some grand final or something. What a shame for them!!
六十人一首
The game we are going to play is a traditional Yaponesian NSC game called "Karuta", which in turn is based on the sixty poems from "60nin Isshu". This game has its roots in the Japanese card game of the same style (but they have 100, we only have 60.)
The game is played by reciting poems and finding the matching picture card out of all the ones scattered on the floor. The one who finds it wins the card. In this NSC version, all the poems and pictures are somehow related to the nation's NSC 222 entry and/or their 'just missed out' entry. See if you can figure out who is who?
As an echsample of how we're going to play today, here's a first poem:
The lizards EndedUp as fake reptile spam.
Die nicht echten Eidechsen...
The answer is...
EchseNam
(thematically, and also notice the rhyme)
By the way, for this Shichi-ni-juichi festival, Yaponesian schoolchildren from Solaare Gakuen Junior and Senior High School provided the wonderful graphics you see featured in this karuta set. (true story!)
I feel like the sixth one on the top row is probably Dalisska. The eyes in the dark (shot in the dark) plus the person with the guts(?) on the right...
We're almost ready to go!
Please post guesses for who you think the qualifier is, either here in the thread or in the discord chat!
The first qualifier will be posted in about 5 minutes...
