No, the theme for NSC 220 is not the critically acclaimed video game console, but instead, automation. Throughout this edition, my hosting will be aided by an elite team of computer tools, scripts, and programmes. As we complete our journey from confirmations to the final results, I will introduce each of my digital friends.
I would like to begin by introducing you to our lead graphics designer: ASCII, the American Standard Code for Information Interchange. This global standard for encoding text characters on computers was popular for many years before it was eventually superseded by Unicode. The original ASCII had 128 code points, and included only the standard Roman alphabet, without accents. However, this was extended with the introduction of Windows-1252, the first default character set in Microsoft Windows, doubling the number of code points to 256 and introducing accented characters.
