Time for Jelena Tomasevic

Interrail
3rd May 2012, 01:29
I wanted Aleksandra Radovic before, but now I think she doesn't deserve it, she's a conceited bi*ch.
Aleksandra Milutinovic, Jovana Nikolic, Mari Mari, Jelena Tomasevic - all these girls have great vocals and r professional, we wouldn't be disgraced...but....I'm sorry - they're all boring like hell. They would go unnoticed. Nice girls, nice voices, but nobody cares.
In 2013 I would like if Serbia sends unestablished and fairly unknown group or artists like VivaVox or Neozbiljni Pesimisti and then whatever happens.
I know there can't be more then 6 ppl, but they can improvise smth, and I know ESC isn't their thing but they can give it a try.
Unfortunately it's only:( up to RTS who they'll invite.
I would even prefer a turbo-folk singer, over A.Radovic/A.Milutinovic/J.Tomasevic/etc...but no worries...with this director RTS will never invite Seka Aleksic or Jelena Karleusa.

No more Zeliko-style-ballads please, I'd like something up-tempo and fun, like Ovo Je Balkan!

Ovo Je Balkan was eurotrash. Zeljko-style ballads win votes. Bear in mind that "Nije Ljubav Stvar" was the first time in a few years that Serbia had done a ballad. So I wouldn't mind another ballad again, as long as it is as good as this year.

@Conwel97 - I'm amazed somebody out of Serbia heard of SevdahBaby:shock:. Thumbs up for your taste in music:D

I'll write what I think (which artist/band) would be good for ESC, I'll distribute all in their genres, roughly speaking:
Pop: Maja Markovic, Emina Jahovic, Natasa Bekvalac, Sasa Kovacevic (with much better songs then they usually produce)
ElectroPop: Sevdah Baby, Zemlja Gruva, Gramophonedzie (with smth like their catchy songs)
Rock: Negative or Ivana Peters, Cveta Majtanovic, Svi Na Pod (whatever they'd perform), perhaps Sonja Bakic/Vukasin Brajic
Jazz: Aleksandra Kovac, Lena Kovacevic (smth not too creaming)
TurboFolk: Ana Nikolic, Jelena Karleusa, Seka Aleksic (with smth ultra catchy, but hide some skin, pls!)
Alternative: Viva Vox Choir, Neozbiljni Pesimisti, Stray Dog, Frajle (VivaVox - whatever->all great, NP - smth catchy as usual, Stray Dog - smth catchy+English, Frajle - as their usual)
Ethno: Trio Balkan Strings (as usual), Balkanika (smht like Balkan vocals), Lajkó Félix (hungarian, as usual+more catchy), KAL (gypsy, as usual), Vlada Maricic (smth like Bolero Negotino).
^In short, that's what I'd like to see for Serbia in 2013, If I forgot some of the names, I'll add later.

*For the guys who called for 'Euro trash' on previous page - then keep fingers crossed for Pop or TurboFolk singer. But seriously speaking, knowing RTS director, I don't think he's very fond of these artists. If RTS sticks to internal selection - I don't think we'll send Euro trash, though...we could send plenty, judging our music industry.;)

I know she's huge ;) I mean she sell out even arenas here because of all the ex-Yugo diaspora. Personally I prefer Jelene Karleusa though :D , I don't like that many Ceca songs, but some are ok and with the right one Serbia could be again in the top. 5 or even higher (for sure it will attract all the ex-Yugo diaspora votes).

However, her reputation in Western Europe is extremely bad thanks to her connections with Arkan and all that, and since the juries are quite a political bunch, that could possibly hurt... I dunno.

It depends, does Sweden allow people with a criminal record in their country?
I remember she had announced a USA/Canada tour and she couldn't come because she was denied entry.

I think she has gone to Sweden before but it could be an obstacle perhaps.

Also, she's given many interviews where she has said she doesn't want to go to ESC but anything could happen really.
Sometimes people can't help but contradict themselves.

If I remember well, Ceca said she's not interested in going to ESC, but it was long ago...don't know if she wants it now. She served her sentance of 1,5 year of house arrest, I know she'll have a tour this summer in countries with ex-YU diaspora, but don't know about Sweden, I guess she's allowed to enter Sweden as well.
I also prefer Jelena Karleusa, ESC fits better to her, she perhaps can not sing, but is much better performer then Ceca. JK provides better show, more fun. Ceca - a bit boring and ordinary nowadays.
I doubt RTS would call any of them.

As for Ana Nikolic, I don't know what exactly happens with her, despite being alcoholic (yellow papers write only this), I think I read somewhere she finished new CD and shoot video with Kylie Minogue's choreographer or dancer or somebody...I guess we'll see it soon.

I would definetly like to see Slobodan Trkulja singing for us next year :D While on the first look it may seem like "this was all seen before" I think this would be something entirely new for the contest.

I hope that RTS will consider this option if they are planning to select the artist internally.

I would love Beovizija to return though. Now is the right time for it. Zeljko got a fantastic third place in Baku, ESC fever is back in ::rs and this is the right moment for the re-introduction of Beovizija.

I wouldn't mind having 10 songs competing in the studio (with only audience voting of course). It doesn't have to be in Sava Centar.

Interrail
1st July 2012, 23:41
@Milos - I agree with u that now is good time to have Beovizija back. I used to think (2-3 yrs ago) it's good there's no more BVZ, but now I think we really need it...I feel like there r no new faces/new artists especially in pop/rock music...nobody new anymore. Maybe some new ppl would appear in Beovizija. And I agree it doesn't have to be a big old fashioned festival in Sava Center. It can be a nice studio.
As for the ESC fever, I don't think it's back in Serbia (I felt it only 2004, 05, 07....), now all ppl I know..they make fun of our ESC representatives, I think ppl laugh at Eurovision (they say it's crap but for some reason they're very concerned what we send, lol).
Slobodan Trkulja could be OK if he comes with at least somewhat commercial, some of his full-spiritual songs would be too weird for ESC:?.

It was a #1 hit of the year in 2006 over here, and i personally think it would've got a good ranking in Athens. It would've also been a great entry to end the Serbia & Montenegro er at ESC, as one member (Ognjen Amidzic) is Serbian and the other (Marinko Madzaglj) is Montenegrin, but politics had different plans.....

Ognjen returned to Beovizija 2009 as Oskar, but with a very bad song. Although, still better than "Cipela".

They better bring her back to her turbo-folk roots then, but I doubt it since RTS have something against that genre (not understanding they'd have more success with that then her singing just some random pop entry).

Emina is very good singer and she can do well on ESC. Maybe its time for same band, or duet or something different. There is many good female singers Maja Nikolić, Ivana Selakov, Ilda Šaulić, Ceca (why not) , girls from Beauty Queens, Ana Kokić (with something like Psiho), Goca Tržan (even I doubt she is interested) , Kaya (she is amazing vocal), Tijana Dapčević, Rada Manojlović. Nataša Bekvalac is very weak vocal, and probably that was main reason why she withdraw from Beovizija 2009 (when Ana Nikolić is robbed for second time loool)

Did it ever occur to you that maybe Europe would be fascinated with this whole genre? Most have never heard something like it and it's catchy and showy so what's the problem? Also let's not even begin on the ex-Yugo diaspora who will vote in masses.

Don't underestimate turbo-folk just because you find it trashy, it would most probably give you a good ending position and it IS part of Serbian music culture (whether you want to admit this or not ;)). I say embrace it because it's truly a local phenomenon!

Exactly, this is my point aswell. There may be some local associations with it, but Serbs an RTS need to understand that those associations aren't the same for outsiders who will just judge songs and the shows, and alot of people will like it because it is catchy and a bit different to what they're usually exposed to. It has a potential to make a great show.

Sometimes I search the lyrics online, as you've said they're really meaningless if not worse  (i.e. Goga's songs). I mainly like Turbo-folk for the rhythm and the instruments and how the vocals pretty much just mix in, it's almost like the vocals are just there for their sound values but not for meaningful and poetic messages. I guess I should be happy that I don't understand the lyrics at all .

I think you're being unfair, there are alot of good and really catchy turbo-folk. Surely the lyrics aren't that 'great', but people in Europe will vote for the songs and shows and not for the lyrics (since most won't understand them) and even if people would get the lyrics, ESC is not really some sort of contest for lyrics anyways and it's not really known for 'great lyrics' in general.

I think when you give examples you tend to choose the 'bad' turbo-folk songs, but there's alot of real party-bangers out there which would be interesting for the European public. It has a local touch and certain way of singing style that is very unique for most Europeans and I'm sure many would appreciate it. We get it you hate it, but it's obvious you pick and choose songs that fits your dislike... but I know from experience that there are many good examples aswell.

And btw the Bulgarian song was NOT turbo-folk/chalga, it was a cheap way of making Romanian House with some limited chalga influences.

I read your original comment that Scooby reacted to, and although I don't agree with all in his reaction I also really don't get what your point was and agree that it was unnecessary (or if we're lost in translation or something?) xshrug

Well, there's nothing 'racist' in pointing out a person's religious beliefs as religion is not a 'race' anyways. However, in this case I'm not sure I get your point and how this is relevant? You mean it would be sensitive for Serbia to send a Muslim because of ideological/historical/religious reasons or what? xshrug

As long as this Emina girl doesn't stand for anything 'odd' like that (whatever that might be), I don't really see how it's necessary to point out her religion? xshrug

Anyways, I don't like her as a choice simply because I find her a weak and uninspired artist. She looks good but she lacks artistically and vocally for me. But I guess if they give her some booty-shaking ethno stumper it could work out well like it did for Kalomira in 2008, atleast Emina looks good... artistically they're equally weak though but with the right song it could work out. I don't see the juries liking it much though, especially since she's vocally weak. Funny though is that this whole 'she's Muslim/Bosniak' could work in favor though when it comes to the juries... oddly.

Anyways, I hope the Ana rumor is true. She's more what I would like to see for Serbia as she has this deep strong turbo-folkish type of voice. We get new rumored names every day it seems

^Why do you think the juries hate ethno-pop and dance pop? They placed Hadise and Aysel & Arash very high, Greece 2010, Sweden 2011 and Cyprus 2012 didn't do that bad in juries (11th, 9th and 12th respectively). Just taking all kinds of uptempo songs, not only ethnic pop. Some entries of that kind, though, were really robbed by the juries, like Romania 2012. And apart of these, most of the rest ethno-pop or dance-pop entries of this kind (boody shaking etc) were crap, like Greece 2012.

In this case it's more a concern of vocals than the genre itself. I could live with her vocals myself (although I find them boring), but I'm not sure the juries would appreciate it since they like 'big' vocals?

I don't think the juries hate uptempo songs (they seem to be ok with some atleast, mostly if they're sorta dated though, but yeah it seems harder to convince them with uptempo than with ballads for sure), but I think they have something against local sounding stuff yes. However, not really wanting to turn this into a general juries discussion, I just pointed out what I think the juries could think of Emina.

Just for the record. He did not say that they put the (in their ears) worst ballad ahead of the (in their ears) best up-tempo entry. Obviously they don't. In relation to the public's opinion, however, they pretty much trashed Sweden 2011 and Azerbaijan 2009. Cyprus 2012 is the only exception to your examples but even that ended up slightly lower in the 'combined results' than it did with only the televotes being used.
And it's true, they hate ethnic tunes with passion. Both pure as well as mixed with pop. Seemingly their resentment can sometimes be evened out when the traditional touch is combined with their prefered balladesque and conventional sounding stuff (like Serbia 2012 or Portugal 2012), but this recept doesn't work out always either (e.g. Spain 2010).
Just wanted to say, I know it is not a discussion thread about the 'grannies'. :D

You mean it would be sensitive for Serbia to send a Muslim because of ideological/historical/religious reasons or what? xshrug

As long as this Emina girl doesn't stand for anything 'odd' like that (whatever that might be), I don't really see how it's necessary to point out her religion? xshrug

I meant, for historical and ideological reasons, that would be odd to me.Cause 20(or some year like that) years ago,Serbians were killing Bosnians. But if they stop being prejudiced,Emina can win the nf.

And there is no prejudice at all, if Emina has a great song she would win the NF. Hypothetically speaking.

Composers and singers must be citizens of the Republic of Serbia and songs should not be publicly performed before September 1st.

I hope that we are going 15 great songs and of course that the best one will win! :D The only bad aspect is that some turbo folk garbage entry sung by someone who has a huge fanbase can easily win the whole thing (or someone like Sasa Kovacevic with some dull ballad), but I hope for the best.

I like that they're returning to a NF, but why this new name? Beovizija sounded better and more local ;) , but maybe they see this as a new concept simply? Wasn't Beovizija also used as some sort of annual award show aswell as ESC selection?

Well, if letting the public choose makes it more possible for a turbo-folk winner then I'm all for it xcheer xcheer xcheer

However, RTS still chooses the entries, and they hate turbo-folk... and also they have screwed with public votes in the past so there's risk it'll be 'fixed' results as in Beovizija :/

Milos-BC
29th November 2012, 00:18
^^ I really don't know why they changed the name. Perhaps one of the reasons is that Beovizija was organized by the MegaTon company and "Beosong" will be organized by RTS themselves. This is the most likely reason for it. I also like "Beovizija" more, but I have nothing against "Beosong" either.

Yeah, Beovizija had the annual awards show as well, however they have cut it quite a lot in 2009 as far as I remember, as almost everyone was complaining that it lasts for centuries  (and I do agree with that myself). I think we will see this award ceremony next year as well but in a shorter format.

I personally don't think they have something against turbo-folk entries, as we had at least one of them each year starting from 2007 (I don't count 2011), and a turbo folk singer won in 2010 (Milan Stankovic was a turbo folk singer at the time when he won the NF), but I am personally afraid that there will be one of these "stars" with some mega-crappy entry and that the fans of Grand will vote for it to win

Yeah, well basically, they can fix it again just like in 2009. But I hope and I believe that they learned their lesson after "Cipela". In case a similar scenario happens again, I think they would need to bring people from the streets to fill out the participants number.

Danijel Pavlovic, who also took in the "Operacija Trijumf" show in 2008 (as well as Beovizija 2009), also said that he has a great song for Beosong and he can't wait for people to hear it.

I don't think OT Band has any chances this time. Their train has passed 3 years ago, they haven't done anything in their careers since OT and Beovizija 2009 (OK, except Vukasin who went to Oslo. But other than that - nothing), and they aren't interesting at all anymore. In case the song is truly phenomenal (in which I highly doubt), of course, I am ready to eat my own words, but I am pretty certain that they won't be contenders for Malmo this time. It was the popularity of OT that brought them the second place back then, not the song. There is no way they can repeat that now, as they aren't interesting anymore at all.

Bands like Tropico band or Lexington band are much bigger favorites if we look at the name only.

Alongside Milica Todorović, another two acts from Grand applied for "Beosong" - Dušan Svilar (he won the 2007/2008 season of "Zvezde Granda" show where Milan Stanković also participated) and there will be a Grand Trio as well (we don't know the members' names yet).

With the way this is developing, seems like only acts from "Operacija Trijumf" and "Zvezde Granda" will apply, lol

Oh, btw, and it seems like OT Band's entry is written by Vukašin Brajić and one of the members of the hard-rock band "Alogia".

Ok, will anyone change this old flag of Serbia and put the new one?
Thanks admin! :)

Lol Miloš, they should change the name into "Beosong - talent shows all stars" :D I hope some famous singers will apply soon :o Or maybe they did and keep it secret because they might not be chosen!

^^ I changed the flag :D I didn't even notice that there was an old flag there. Or, to be more precise, I forgot to pay attention to it  Anyway, we fixed it now :D

Well, I believe that some (famous) name will leak out before the deadline ends. I think that many people will submit their entries after the holidays end. That was the case when we had Beovizija. For example, "Molitva" was sent on the last day, "Oro" as well. I believe many of them are in the holiday mood right now, so they prolonged all their plans and activities for the period when the holidays end :D

If only anonymous or not so known singers participate she will beat them all. And so far... They're all former participants of some TV talent shows.

Maja Nikolić is a really good singer, but her songs sucks and whole her career is big fail. And she is bitch

And Pero don't worry there is no chance for her winning (maybe with some extraordinary song, but doubt)

This songs are not bad 8first one is from 1998, and second from 2011)

Yeah, most of her songs are kinda bad (I like the one I posted on the other page though)... but whether she's a bitch or not is uninteresting 'cause it's not a personality contest (and how would one know she is anyways? what did she publically do really?)

I liked Kad ti treba:

Not the best, but it's alright. She's not really a good live singer - or at least she didn't do a good job in this performance.

Yeah Kad ti treba was nice song

All songs that year were amasing in Beovizija

I doubt that Maja will be even close to win.

And not to mention how I doubt that her entry will be anything good.

As Scooby said, a great singer but with crappy songs.

She has almost no popularity at all, so she will not be a threat at all. Only if the song is really amazing, but I think that the chances of that are really incredibly small.

I'm surprised people say Maja is a great live singer? She's not that good live?

There's something called the Youtube? No need to be there in person.

Well, I wasn't convinced by the clips I've seen but maybe it was just those clips xshrug

I'm not saying she's bad but she doesn't come across as something special either to me.

I heard the one song that will be will be sung on Beosong today (from a Grand singer). It is a demo version though but I doubt that there will be any changes (except that Svilar will sing it instead of this singer that I heard).

I musn't reveal any details about the song, nor how did I get to hear it, but the only impression I may give is that the song is good (not what I expected), but, in this current form, it is too weak for ESC, I'm afraid. It is not turbo-folkish at all.

Also, Vukasin Brajic finished the lyrics for OT Band's entry.

I wonder why they have different last names. Could be good though, he sounds quite a good singer, not as good as his sister but good nonetheless!

Danijel is Marija's half-brother. She took mother surname Šerifović.

BTW Danijel is not bad singer, but he is popular as the venereal disease, so chances for his win are....... no chance
