We really would love to,but unfortunatelly,it is too early for us to win :) We didn't mature for it yet :D

Hope Monika,Jazzu or Aistė Pilvelytė will represent us next years :)

I could say that this song wasn't bad, but their performance was very stupid! My little brother was calling them "ta vratzia" (the underwears) and he said they were his favorites, and when I told him that they didn't qualify, he said "then I want the Chinese guy to win" meaning Milan Stankovic! :lol: (Don't mind that, he was just 4 years old back then!!!!)

I don't get Lithuania's selection. There's always some gems hidden there, but never chosen, they usually don't even make it to the final. What's up with constantly choosing the most generic and dated stuff all the time? Why never something in Lithuanian for instance?

The best Lithuanian ESC entry still remains Strazdas. Love or Leave and Love are also good enough. Other than that I never really liked any Lithuanian entries, 2012 was ok but tragically dated, generic and formulaic still.

You know, it COULD pay-off to take some risk sometime (and I don't mean with joke entries such as "We Are the Winners").

Overlooked entries in Lithuania's recent selections (especially the 2011 examples and the first example of 2012 could have been SO good entries and are obviously miles above than the chosen ones imo):

this year, jury had 2 donny singing teachers - thats why he won.
about another years - I think Lithuanians need song about love or something similiar, or song which leaves in memory..
2011 - kinda love, kinda jury
2010 - memoriable song
2009 - love
2008 - kinda love, kinda jury
2007 - loove
2006 - memoriable song
2005 - memoriable song
2004 - love
2002 - aivaras was 2nd, b'avarija's song was memoriable...
2001 - memoriable
1999 - jury, people voted for memoriable song
1994 - love.

well thats all Lithuania's eurovision history. love and memoriable songs...

Really?

I think Strazdas 1999 was the best one, Love and Love is blind were decent aswell.

Other than that I think Lithuania has been very weak in Eurovision, but they do have some gems in their selections (I posted a couple on the other page), they just have to start to choose the right entries for ESC.

Lithuanian broadcaster LRT is calling for songs. Only citizens of Lithuania and foreigners who have permission, by law, to reside in Lithuania can participate in the contest. The deadline for submission is 1 October. Singers and composers can enter separately, meaning that LRT will act as a ‘match maker’ to pair up potential entries.

According to lrytas.lt, broadcaster LRT will start live shows in October of this year- making Lithuania one of the first countries to go live with their national selection.

Also the Lithuanian national broadcaster LRT has published their rules for the selection of the 2013 Eurovision Song Contest entry. The contest is only open to Lithuanian citizens and permanent residents. The songs can be submitted until 1 October 2012.
The selection process will once again consist of televised qualifying heats and a national final. The winner will be decided by a combination of jury and telephone votes. The first televised shows will air already in October this year.

LRT has informed Esctoday.com that the 2013 Lithuanian national selection televised heats will kick off on the 3rd week of October, followed by the semifinals at the beginning of December and the 2013 Lithuanian national final around Christmas time. The exact dates will be confirmed in due course.

The winner of the 2013 Lithuanian national final will get the honour of having his/ her own solo concert in Vilnius, which most probably will be held this year.

Yesterday was the last day for the artists, composers and singers to submit their applications, entries, songs to LRT. The Lithuanian broadcaster is currently checking and evaluating all the received applications.

:O Look what I found
October 20th LRT starts national selection to Eurovision 2013. It will be longer than last year. At all Eurovision fans will see even 10 shows — 2 evenings to introduce all participants of selection, 5 selective tours, 2 semi-finals and final(a few days before Christmas).

Shows will be filmed on Thursdays, and their records will be broadcasting on Saturday evenings, except live national final. The host of selection - Andrius Rožickas.

List of participants will be posted next week

After first introduction with participants evening, we already know 17 participants. That means selection got 34 participants. But here are they, first participants:

„El Fuego“;
„Chill Out, Have No Doubt“;
Baiba;
Berta Timinskaitė;
Algirdas Bagdonavičius — Al Bagdo;
Ieva Zasimauskaitė;
Monika Linkytė;
Nerijus Pečiūra;
Julija Jegorova;
Sofi; (no, not the Bulgarian one :lol:)
„DAR“;
Gabrielius Vagelis;
„Eden“;
Neringa Šiaudikytė;
Vincentas Linkevičius;
Ugne Smile;
„Multiks“.

As you see - 4 participants from last year, even 7 participants from 'The Voice Of Lithuania'. They sang not their eurovision songs, but just songs to introduce themselves. For example, Baiba sang Euphoria. (and it was quite bad)

Next introduction with participants evening - next Saturday, 20:00 CET

Saulės Broliai;
Sepa;
D'oro;
Freezing Kiss;

Vudis & Samanta Tina - Hey chaki mama

The verses are too forgettable, but the chorus sounds really great! I don't like Samanta's way of behaving on stage, but I anyway prefer her over the male part of this duet. He's just plain boring. Raping intermezzo isn't really good either, it would be better to cut it out. I would also change the styling. Samanta looks like a Jessie J wannabe. The vocals are good though and the song already grew on me. I think that it deserves to qualify to the SF.

8/10 = 3rd place

Vincentas Linkevicius - Dance The Night

I like his voice, but the song just doesn't stand out in any way. It isn't especially good nor especially bad, it's just somewhere in the middle of the road. The chorus should "wow" me, but the problem is that nothing happens. It's too bland, really. It's good that they put some effort into the stage performance, but I'm not sure that I like the end result. Another positive thing is a key change :lol:, but it doesn't add anything to the song.

4/10 = 7th place

Gabrielius Vagelis - Sacrifice

Wow, what a great voice! The beginning sounded promising and the continuation didn't dissapoint me at all. It's a great song, I'm soo in love with it! As far as I'm concerned, they can call the NF off and just send this song to Malmö. Verses are good and the chorus really "wows" you and that's the thing that's missing in most of the other songs. The little climax in the end really adds to the song as a whole. "Sacrifice" is the first really proffesional song of this NF and it surely deserves to qualify to the SF. And than to F. And than (well, it depends on other songs that will be presented later) maybe to ESC!

9.5/10 = 1st place

Ugne Smile - Call To Your Mum

Somebody should tell this girl that the screechy voice she makes when she takes a breath or ends the note isn't cool. It actually bothers me very much, because it's hard for me to concentrate on the actual melody. The song, however, starts off nicelly, but the chorus is a little bit of a let down. It doesn't give me anything special, anything that would make me want to listen to this song again. Therefore, I'm not too impressed, but I must say that I really like the guitar solo. At least something. Oh, another thing: is the drummer wearing fake tattoo sleeves?

6/10 = 5th place

Saules Briolai - Loreen

First of all, I really like his voice, because it suits a cute song like this one perfectly! Another thing that I really like is the stage performance. In songs like "Loreen" there's a big danger of overreacting on stage, but these guys aren't. They are being funny in a very simple, yet charming way. And "charming" is a word that I could use if I had to describe the song (and performance) with only one word. I don't think that it's a winner though, but it's really good! It's one of the most cheer-up songs I've ever heard in ESC preselections and that IS a good thing. Of course, it has some flaws as well - the biggest are some parts of the lyrics. This song would be even more charming if they changed the lyrics a little bit. I mean, "Loreen, I wanna be your son". Really? Aren't you a little bit too old? They could easily change the theme and make it something like "I want to be your husband" or "I want to marry you" or "Would you go out with me", I don't know, but there are really plenty other options.

8.5/10 = 2nd place

Valerija Injinaite - Taip noriu vėl

Kudos for using Lithuanian! But this doesn't mean much if the song's bad and that's exactly the case, I'm afraid. I mean, I can't say that it's the worst song I've ever heard, but it's definitely not my cup of tea. I just don't get it.

3/10 = 8th place

Andrius Pojavis - Something

A singing wizard, great! Well, actually, not so great. It's weird to see this styling together with an uptempo song like this one. The verses
are pretty bland, even boring maybe, but the chorus really surprised me. It's actually very good! Not the best song, the best voice or the best stage performance of this night, but it deserves a place in the upper half.

7.5/10 = 4th place

Julia Jegorova - I’ll Carry You

A great voice and a song that starts off really nicely. The chorus is a huge let down though, I must say. I think that the author kind of overcomplicated it and the consequence is that it just doesn't work as a whole. I don't know, I expected a lot from this song, but I guess that my expectations were too high. Climaxes are usually my favourite parts of songs, but this one is just too overdone. She's trying to show everything she can do with her voice (actually even more, because her voice really shook at some point) and it just doesn't suit a song like this one. I'm dissapointed.

5.5/10 = 6th place

Haha, obviously it must originally have been "Loreen, I wanna be your man" and "I will do everything for you". He just chicken out, afraid people would laugh. :lol: So instead of a crazy mad and funny Loreen tribute, they kind of turned it in to a ... well, pretty weird immature mocking of her or what? :(

Or mocking of her more or less over the top devoted fans :mad: (oh that's me :oops:) :mrgreen:

I wonder about Vincentas Linkevicius - Dance The Night. The crucial thing is if he produced/written the music himself or if it was given to him by a manager/record company. The synth base reminded me of the fabulous base in Madonna's Sorry and I liked the Michael Jackson disco touches during the verses. It didn't at all appear copied though. This song was the only one I thought was produced with some brains. Question is, Vincentas Linkevicius brains or some others? The song could also make use of some edges, like a more powerful base for example.

His performances sucked big time yesterday. I'd say ditch the dancers and the dance moves. Where did this guy go?

And for me, it is pretty crucial if he was given the music by some others.

Oh Loreen didn't write but produced Euphoria pretty much in every detail. She also had a clear artist identity before entering Melodifestivalen. What I mean is: If Vincentas Linkevicius really is the talent behind the song, he deserves all support he can get. If he's not, it's just forgettable.

I always support singers that write their songs by themselves, but we shouldn't judge / rate the song differently because of that. It's true, it can be easier for singers to identify with the song and to put emotions into the performance, but the song is still the same. We can give the singers kudos for songwriting, but in the end, it doesn't really matter who's the author. What matters the most is whether the song is good or not.

And I don't think that the common viewers really notice such things anyway ...

Sorry to disappoint but Loreen is not a writer, producer nor composer of 'Euphoria'. I don't doubt her talent and that the is visually artistic though, but she's not by any means the brain behind that song in particular. However she did in fact contribute to the majority of the songs on her debut album, so without a doubt she is a creative force, just not when it comes to that song alone.

Well, I tend to personally separate artists from performers or singers, and I guess we agree here if I got your comment correctly. To me an artist need to be a part of the creative process, not just performing or singing songs made by others. I mean anyone could do the latter, but artistry for me is to actually create something. But I also agree with Kryptonite that in the end of the day what's important is the song, if it's good it's good regardless of who created it, and if it's bad it's bad regardless. An artist creating bad songs is not really better than a singer/performer performing a good song.

So if you pick on signers/performers not performing their own stuff in ESC, then unfortunately that would be the majority of the entrants then, and if that's what needed to like the songs then there's not many songs left to like in this contest :lol:

Precisely! And the question here was despite a terrible performance, does he deserve continue support?

But with Euphoria you are wrong. Official producers are Peter Boström and SeventyEight, but Loreen have told the story how the song was transformed from a rather average schlager song to what it became. She (and many others) is part of every bit of it. On top of that we have the visual appearance for which in Euphoria's case is at least equal in importance as the song production. She was given a song, she took it and transformed it to something she could perform as part of her artistry.

Hmm, I'm not saying it's unimportant, I've got much more respect for artists than just singers/performers, however if I like a song (or dislike) I'm not going to start disliking it (or like it) with the knowledge of the singers input in it, because it's not really changing whether the song is good or bad imo.

Look, no artist 'sell' their work for free, if she in fact had an input in the writing or production, she would be credited like on those other songs on her album where her name is actually attached, afterall that's where the money is and also that's where the integrity is as an artist, you just don't give away your input for free and give all credit to others.

As for visuals, I never questioned her talent as a visual artist (and of course she's a great vocalist aswell), but even the visuals and performance had its own choreographer and design team behind it.

Let's say Loreen a year ago when all the work with Euphoria was done, was in a completely different position than she is today. And a big LOL, I don't believe for a minute Peter Boström is the brain behind Euphoria, hahaha. She hesitated to participate a long time and when she finally accepted, it was on terms of "complete freedom" to perform according to her own preferences, her choices of co-workers e.g. Ambra Succi. "Rumours" are she drove Christer Björkman to "madness" during the process. But surely you have heard this story before? It has been told over and over again in the news since Melodifestivalen final.

Not really answer your comment here - sorry. The question was not so much if he wrote the music/lyric as it was about the song being part of him as a defined artist. Not easy to define the concept artist though.

Excluding his appearance, I don't really think that "the talent shown in the song didn't correspond to the shy guy appearing in television". He did show his talent - his live vocals were great, totally comparable to his vocals on the studio version. He does lack charisma, but that's something that wasn't shown in the studio version either (actually it even can't be).

I wouldn't say that anything's fake, really. And yes he probably does deserve a second chance, but with a good song. This one just isn't and it wouldn't be even if he was the author.

I'm not familiar with the details of STIM and other payment systems. I think the author(s) of the music and lyrics are one part and the performer another. I don't think the producers are involved in any formal way. Surely they have contracts that specify every little detail regarding the money flow. My guess is that Loreen herself and her record company is getting the minor part in this and the real winners are the authors Thomas G:son and Peter Boström.

The people credited are the ones gaining the most $$$ from it, and that includes songwriters aswell as producers/composers. No one with actual input in this process would in their right mind sell out their part, and it's not just about the money, it's also about integrity as an artist to actually get credited for the work you've put into the project.

Can someone tell me how the televote turned out?
My personal three qualifiers from 1. round are:

1. Valery - Taip noriu vėl It's very electronic and contemporary, and also in lithuanian which makes it even more interesting. The lyrics seem very dark. Reminds me somehow of "Frozen" by Madonna. I don't think it will qualify to the final, but if it does, she needs to work on her voice in the chorus.
2. Saulės broliai - Loreen Nice melody. It will qualify, but I don't want it to win. Too silly to send a song like this, after 10 shows.
3. Ugne Smile - Call to your mum Great song. It would've been a classic today, had it been sung by Avril Lavigne in the 00's. The title is nonsense :? Great voice, but annoying inhaling-sounds :lol: Too bad it won't qualify xcry

I also liked Gabrielius Vagelis and of course he will qualify ;) He's damn fine.

I cross my fingers for Valerija, but Lithuania have a tendency to overlook the actual interesting stuff (aswell as stuff in their native language) in favor of generic dated songs or pure joke entries :( This have been the case in the latest Lithuanian selections.

Yeah, it won the televoting. But it isn't 100% sure that they'll qualify to the semifinal, because we're still waiting for the jury results, which will be announced next week.

I actually hope that "Loreen" qualifies to the SF. :oops:

Well, I learned two things from Lithuanian ESC selections:

1) The public vote for joke entries
2) The juries vote for utterly generic dated stuff with some boring big vocals

... none of these are ideal :lol:

3. Vincentas Linkevicius - Dance the night
4. Andrius Pojavis - Something
5. Valerija Iljinaite - Kate's morning at 10:08

7. Saules Briolai - Loreen

I guess if Saulės broliai sits down and analyse the lyrics, hopefully with someone good at these things. Rewrite the lyrics to be for example a tale of a devoted Loreen fan, the result could be a quite sweet song with great potential. :)

I'm not sure they have thought the lyrics ready yet. It could also be a cultural thing where their meaning gets misunderstood. They cannot keep the current lyrics though BMO.

Vudis ir Samanta Tina - „Hey chiki - mama" => Bad. A song that I cannot listen until the end, I listened only the verses and a part of the chorus, and turned it off... SOOC

Vincentas Linkevičius - „Dance the night" => Bad. Very bad... SOOC

Gabrielius Vagelis - „Sacrifice" => Very good song, sounds fresh and not dated, and good voice. And not a bad English accent at all. xup

Ugne Smile - „Call to your mum" => This sounds very weird. The melody is a mess. This girl could do better with a better song! She sounds like a hybrid of Avril Lavigne and Lena... xhmm

Saulės Broliai - „Loreen" => I like the melody of this song, and the title is clever. But I don't like his appearance. And the lyrics are very silly. It could speak about a girl named Loreen, and that he loves her, not "I wanna be your son"! xrofl2

Valery - „Taip noriu vėl" => It has some nice elements, I like her voice and she is very beautiful. But I don't like the song overall. It sounds weird and the melody is a mess... Too bad, I like the language.

Andrius Pojavis - „Something" => Ubermeh song. Silly lyrics. Bad accent. The melody is not bad. And his appearance is interesting. But not a positive feeling overall...

Julija Jegorova - „I'll carry you" => Not bad. Good voice, good verses, not so good chorus and during the chorus she was out of tune. And this ruins it a bit... But this song has potential, unlike some others that are just bad. It could be fixed to be more catchy, just like her vocals as well, because she seems to be a good singer after all.

My ranking:
1. Gabrielius Vagelis - „Sacrifice" xheart
2. Julija Jegorova - „I'll carry you"
3. Saulės Broliai - „Loreen"
4. Andrius Pojavis - „Something"

6. Ugne Smile - „Call to your mum"
7. Vudis ir Samanta Tina - „Hey chiki - mama" xdown
8. Vincentas Linkevičius - „Dance the night" xpuke

More or less, CyBC wanted Annet Artani to be picked, and after the televoting results, they invented a way to count the votes so that song to win. They counted the points of each district of Cyprus with the official 1-8, 10 and 12 points from each, and then they added the points of whole Cyprus, again with 1-8, 10 and 12. Votes of all Cyprus had the same weight with the points from tiny Famagusta district, how silly. The song "After You" of Valando Tryfonos came 1st but this song didn't win with that "method".

I have no idea who invented this rule and when, but it should have been done after the lines were closed and saw that the song they wanted didn't come 1st. I think it came 3rd overall. 2nd was the song "Congratulations" which was a good song but by the most annoying singer ever, Marios Tofi! I still remember him crying and calling out his mom when the results were announced! And his mom shouting "you'll pay for this you did to my baby"! :lol:

"Play That Melody to Me" was a good song, I'd prefer it over "Why Angels Cry", but it had to be fixed for ESC, it had an amateurish instrumentation and production! Oh, imagine Eleftheria that year going to ESC, everything would be different! :o xrofl2

That year everybody wanted to go to ESC for a reason (yeah, Greece won in 2005, that's why)! :lol:

I missed the contest last night and been listening to the videos.
Hmm, best last night by far was the accordion girl. xrose

I think the previous contest was much stronger than this one.

edit:
So, my hopes are still on Saulės Broliai with their song Loreen, but with rewritten lyrics.

My ranking for all the songs that participated in the 2nd heat.

1. Alive Way - Revolution = 9/10
2. Ieva & Gabrielius - I Fall In Love = 8.5/10
3. Mundis & Elvina - Aš ilgiuosi tavęs = 8/10
4. Beissoul & Gabrielė - Feeling Hopeless = 7/10

There'll be no long reviews or whatever this time, because I'm too busy. :lol:

My three qualifiers are:

1. Alive Way - Revolution Amazing chorus. Such a loss if it doesn't go through.
2. Giedrė Smolskaitė - Stay Awake Tonight Cool song! Something you would expect to hear in Eesti Laul. She is also a nice performer. Probably won't qualify :(
3. Timohi - Time For Life Charming and whimsical, but nothing more. Will of course qualify.

Probably won't qualify
there are 2 additional wildcards - one with most 'likes' in facebook page(will be posted after all 5 rounds) and Balsuok app with most thumbs up(If Timohi and Ieva & Gabrielius qualifies, Giedrė is still first from not qualified ones). Never say never! :lol:

Berta Timinskaitė – Missing you, missing me (Eric Palmqwist, Erik Nyholm, Johan Gunnarsson)
Eglė Jakštytė – Give me the music (Justinas Chachlauskas, Algis Gintautas)

Again no qualifier in Lithuanian :( ... and this in a country where foreigners need to adjust their names to officially sound Lithuanian :lol:

Obviously the respect for the own language doesn't transform into this selection :(

This bar displays likes/dislikes given via special app (it's called Balsuok app, I think). The song which will collect the most thumbs up via this app (and didn't qualify to the SF), will receive a wildcard.

Heat 3 was a lot stronger than heat 2, the best so far?

Accordiongirls and guys playing fantasy guitars seems like a popular thing in Lithuania. :D

Sophie - Make it happen
Božolė - Happy and Free (check dance move by the guy in baseballcap)

I'm late, but I'll post my ranking and my comments for Heat 2:

1. Giedrė Smolskaitė - „Stay awake tonight"
2. I. Zasimauskaitė ir G. Vagelis - „ I fall in love"
3. „Alive Way" - „Revolution"
4. „Timohi" - „Time for life"
5. Beissoul & Gabrielė Griciūtė - „Beautiful life"
6. Mundis ir Elvina - „Aš ilgiuosi tavęs"
7. Feliksas Merlin - „Silent scream"
8. N. Pečiūra - „Kas gali pakeisti gyvenimą"

„Alive Way" - „Revolution": Not bad, but not amazed by it either. Has some good elements and it’s quite catchy. It gets monotonous, though.

Mundis ir Elvina - „Aš ilgiuosi tavęs": I don’t like this.

Giedrė Smolskaitė - „Stay awake tonight": This is good and has potential, and I really like her voice and she is pretty! I wonder why this song was so underrated, both in the comments of this forum, and in the public voting. :(

N. Pečiūra - „Kas gali pakeisti gyvenimą": This is really bad.

Feliksas Merlin - „Silent scream": Another very bad song.

I. Zasimauskaitė ir G. Vagelis - „ I fall in love": This is a very cute song! I don’t know if it can do well in ESC, though. The only part I would change is the chorus. It sounds a bit weak. But it has potential. Deserved qualifier nevertheless!

„Timohi" - „Time for life": This is interesting. I can’t say I like it, but at least it’s not a mediocre/boring song. It has nice instrumentation.

Beissoul & Gabrielė Griciūtė - „Beautiful life": That guy’s voice is very weird. The song is not that bad, but too mediocre. Too bad it qualified. xdown

I'll comment for Heat 3 soon!

All songs in Lithuanian were awful, especially in this Heat. Do you say that they had to qualify just because they were in Lithuanian? :?

This is a great idea actually. It could work as an indicator of what people in general think about your favourite and trigger counter voting from the fans. Perhaps like some real time twittertrending. I think it shouldn't affect the voting though.

Yeah, I read your comment, but I think you were the only one who mentioned that song as one of his favorites! It was very low in most people's ranking! :(

Even if she makes the wildcard, still there's no chance to win I think. She did terribly bad in the voting from the public! :(

Heat 3

My ranking:
1. „Božolė" - „Happy and Free"
2. Neringa Šiaudikytė - „Used to be"
3. Berta Timinskaitė „Missing You, Missing Me"
4. Elvina Milkauskaitė - „Closer"
5. Muzikinė grupė „Multiks" - „Crazy"
6. Sophie - „Make it happen"
7. Eglė Jakštytė - „Give me the Music"
8. Roko grupė „Eden" - „War Without End"

My comments:
Muzikinė grupė „Multiks" - „Crazy": I don’t like this song overall. Not bad, and it has nice intro and some nice moments. Don’t like his accent either.

Eglė Jakštytė - „Give me the Music": I don’t like this, reminds me of some songs of Belgian and Dutch DJs in early 00s.

Roko grupė „Eden" - „War Without End”: OMG, what is this? Disgusting!

Elvina Milkauskaitė - „Closer": In comparison to the first 3 songs, this is much better. Still not amazing, but it’s a good song. I guess is not strong enough for ESC, though.

Sophie - „Make it happen": It starts quite nicely, but then it goes nowhere. It’s so monotonous, I don’t want to listen to it until the end.

Neringa Šiaudikytė - „Used to be": From all the songs so far in this heat, this is the only one that can have some potential in ESC. Reminds me of some Melodifestivalen songs from former years!

Berta Timinskaitė „Missing You, Missing Me": Adele a la Lithuanian? It’s a good song nevertheless! With the song above, the only one that can have potential in ESC.

„Božolė" - „Happy and Free": They saved the best for the end! Very nice song!

Heat 3 was the worst heat so far. I can't say that the songs were very bad or something, but there was no song that would really stand out in a positive way. Here's my ranking of all the entries:

1. Elvina Milkauskaite - Closer = 8/10
2. Božole - Happy And Free = 7.5/10
3. Egle Jakštyte - Give Me The Music = 7.5/10
4. Neringa Šiaudikyte - Used To Be = 7/10
5. Berta Timinskaite - Missing You, Missing Me = 6.5/10
6. Multiks - Crazy = 6/10
7. Sophie - Make It Happen = 4.5/10
8. Eden - War Without End = 1.5/10

My personal qualifiers are Closer, Happy and free and Give me the music, but to be really honest: I would only miss "Closer" if it fails to qualify. I don't really care about the other songs from this qualification round.
