NOOO why???

Just send a STRONG entry... I mean you made it to the final in many cases... and when you're good you tend to end up high on the scoreboard (2005 and 2008 for instance)

C'mon... you HAVE to stay! Eurovision will not stay the same without Israel!!

Send an uptempo MizrahiPop entry with a booty-shaking hottie lady... you NEVER tried something like that.. it always worked for Greece, Armenia, Turkey and Ukraine .. I bet it would work great for Israel aswell!

I love Sarit, I think her previous ESC attempt didn't represent her at all. That entry was pretty cr*p, I would have loved her with something like from her regular style.

And oh, Michal has been one of my suggestions in the previous years aswell, now SHE is the type of entry I would like to see... I can totally see her pull-off a booty-shaking entry for us and bring Israel back to the top. 10

Actually, although I personally wasn't fond of Israel's '12 entry, I also get why it didn't have mass-appeal. I wouldn't drop out based on two failures. Dana's song was kinda cliché (although I liked it).. but as I wrote, Israel tend to fair well when they really send strong entries. So it's a little sore looser to drop out now when it's the broadcaster's choice that is mostly to blame imo.

IBA will do a KDAM for 2013 regarding to an article in a popular Israeli website.

If it's Maya I really hope we will get an ethno-ballad or maybe even MizrahiPop. I'm afraid they'll give her some Disney Ballad instead... really hope not.

Maya with a ethno-ballad could possibly score a top. 5.

Yoni
5th June 2012, 18:40
Just because of the genre doesn't mean it is auto top 5, and no ty, if we're going to send Mizrakhi to esc for the first time, I want it to be pure mizrakhi, happy, poppy khafla songs :D

Ofcourse there's no guarantee, but Maya is a good singer and ethno-ballad is far more interesting than just some wailing Disney mess. The juries could support both, while I think the public is not too fond of the Disney stuff.

beautiful and strane video, what talk about this song and video?

Translation for the song:
One moment before the sunset
I embrace you
And my heart, like a ball of fire,
dives and falls with you

Then comes the darkness
The magic disappears
Leaving only the depth of your eyes
and the sadness of the world

I have known you long ago
Perhaps in another lifetime
A dream that left in me a fragrance
Of a burning memory

So before I touch you
Just before sunrise
Come and say to me,
I am all yours
Perhaps from another lifetime...

There is only one in my imagination
She is good and sweet
And I am pointed at her
From a cloud of silence

Maybe that is where you came from
So if you are real

IBA, the Israeli broadcaster, has revealed the brand new format that will be used for choosing their 2013 Eurovision Song Contest entry: 30 artists will compete in three semifinals, and only ten will qualify to the grand final. The budget for the whole selection is estimated to 400,000 euros, and it is the first time that IBA will hold a big selection, as until now the traditional Kdam was held during one night only.
The four shows are planned to be held on January-February 2013. The top three will qualify to the grand final, along with a wildcard that will be chosen after all semifinals.
No participating artists have been revealed yet, however Kathleen Reiter, the winner of The Voice Israel, is rumored to be one of the favorites to take part in the selection.

I agree! It happened in our national selection too!

EMA 2004 had 4 semifinals (32 songs) and we failed hard in the end. There were some good songs, but I cannot even remember more than a half of them. So.. in most countries it's much better to have a smaller, but better national selection.

I don't know, maybe it'll work well for Israel though! :)

Orphaned Land is really a hit or miss... if the entry would be anything like this one:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AbCliCQnBUo&feature=relmfu

... it could be a good one.

But they also have alot of useless screaming mess (with that I mean TOO metal for its own good), but their "softer" songs with more focus on the oriental bits are really good.

It would be a bold choice though, especially coming after the not so good 2012 entry, but I like countries being bold, in the end it could pay off.

Festigal 2012 is here, my most fav show in Israel.

"Festigal (Hebrew: פסטיגל‎) is an annual Israeli singing show for audience of children and their parents during the Hanukkah vacation time. Initially designed as a song contest, its format was gradually expanded, with famous Israeli singers and actors taking part in it.[1] Now the Festigal event is built around some theme or story."

As for the pre-contest here we can find the participants :) . . . (they don't sing their own songs, it's covers for another songs in this pre-contest).

Well, I barely know any of the names either but I do have big hopes on this selection.

The ones I've heard of prior:

Meital De Razon (Semi 3):

Julietta (Semi 3):

You're welcome mate! :) And yup, totally agree, that's part of why I like this forum aswell.

I could have cheated though and checking up songs for the rest of the competitors aswell , but that wouldn't make sense... the ones I posted are the only ones I know about from the list of participants.

I would love something uptempo with a touch of ethnic in it, both Meital's and Julietta's songs are in styles I would like to hear... they still differ from eachother though.

Lol, well, it would save me the time from looking them all up on youtube. :p Naaah, just kidding, it's more fun to post the ones you know and like and discuss them. I'm sure as we get closer to Kdam, more videos from the other participants will emerge here as well. ;)

YES, I absolutely agree with you on uptempo plus ethnic for Israel, I would love that! Though, I wouldn't mind a similar entry like Israel 2008 either, probably still my favourite Israeli entry so far, but they've done enough slower songs in the past that a more uptempo/ethnic one would be a nice change.

Yeah, 2008 was really good (in a general strong year aswell I must add). I wouldn't go as far as say it's my favorite Israeli entry to date (that's a battle between Ofra Haza 1983 and Duo Katz 1991), but as for the latest Israeli entries it's definitely one of their strongest ones and I really want an ethnic influenced entry again... but just as you say it's time for something up-tempo in that genre, because we got plenty of ballads already. But yeah, a great ethnic-ballad I would welcome aswell ;)

Yeah, the past decade hasn't really been a strong one for Israel... a pity because they are one of my all time fav ESC nation and have been very strong from 70's-90's.

So Kdam is set up then? Then what's the point of watching then?

She has everything you want for Eurovision but you still haven't heard the song? You know it's a song contest (atleast that's what it should be), not a vocal talent show. Since you asked for opinions on it, and I'm an honest person I'll give you my opinion then:

Well, truth is I can't say much from the clip because I judge songs first and foremost and not voices, and it doesn't help either that she sings one of the worst songs I know imo and that sort of wailing American ballad vocal doesn't do anything to me... it's just souless wailing and quite frankly she screams more than she actually sings... so it's not as if her vocals are that good etiher imo.

I'll wait for the song, but if it's set-up then it's not interesting.... by that clip alone I'm not impressed at all sorry... but taste differ. I really hope though for the sake of Israel that they're not giving her a screaming wail ballad like "Listen", that'll go directly to the bottom of my list I'm afraid... c'mon Israel... I know you can do and deserve better than this!

But really, I hope the best SONG wins though... that's the single most important thing in a song contest imo. IF her song will be good (and preferably the best) she'll have my support... but I won't support someone only based on vocals, especially not since her vocals don't do anything for me as presented here atleast.

So there you have my honest opinion.

Bottom-line: It's a song contest, the song is the most important thing.

Sorry, but I'm not impressed... she relies on screaming because it's apparent on the second clip that her voice is not stable enough to make it through the calmer/lower register of a song.

There's something to work on though, I hope since her win that they made her work with a vocal coach or something because if she just learns not to scream, maybe it could sound good.

No, you can't say that. I listened to "Je suis malade" because I can judge it. It's the common idol song because it's one of the few songs where you can show your vocal abilities. Plus it's a French all-time classic. She can achieve a good "Je suis malade". In terms of power, she's not far from a Lara Fabian. But it lacks sensibilty, but she's too young to live the lyrics ! ;)

Of course I can say that? I don't have to know a song to judge her singing skills.

She's typical of what comes from The Voice and Idol and useless shows like those... screaming wailing vocals...

I can actually find it cool with some "screaming" in music, but only if it's done on purpose and not because the singer is unstable. When a singer has to rely on wailing it's not a good thing in my book... but this all comes down to preferences... I'm not impressed though, more is not always better...

Well I meant, the song is about someone becoming crazy because he's been left by his lover... So you just have to sing like that... It's just like Rona Nishliu screams because it's a part of her song ! :D
She wouldn't say "Je suis malade" smiling, dancing or murmuring... At the end of the song, she says she lost her mind and she's almost dying...

Actually, Rona didn't scream... she's probably one of the best live vocalists I've ever seen in ESC because if you noticed she could hold her tones without the need to wail. Wailing often means that you can't hold one vocal tone for long.

Well, I just talked about her vocals, not her performance skills. I think with some work she could be ok, it all depends on the song though... but she need to scream less though.

Oh, I hate it aswell

I have to be honest that my knowledge doesn't go further than 2000 or so, (with the exception of all the winning entries, the Belgian ones and a number of random entries before that.) I'll have to look those two up later (listening now to the Swedish and Latvian songs for tonight xlisten2). Hehe, and wanting something ethnic, preferrably up-tempo, sums it up nicely indeed. ;)

Hm, not to impressed with those videos of Kathleen at the moment. Sure, she's a good singer, but it will all depend on the song she has, and I wouldn't know what her style is outside of The Voice. By the way, will the songs be released before Kdam starts?

I see, well you have alot to learn then ;) If you have the time, my suggestion is to listen to ALL ESC entries from 1956- and somehow note the ones you liked (by a ranking system or something), to really get to know the contest. I started watching ESC in the second half of the 90's, prior that I was just a little kid or a baby... but I think being an ESC fan you should really take your time to get to know the contest. I did that once, and each year with the tournament contest in here I go back and listen again and I find so many gems there, it's actually worth it! ;)

Hehe, I know! :D I've been watching eurovision from the early 90s or something as well, but that was as a child, watching it with my family, and it didn't go beyond that one evening. It's only since 2000 that I started watching it with friends and took a more general interest, and only about 4-5 years now that I started to follow the preselections as well. I really should catch up with the earlier years during the quieter eurovision months of the year, but instead I keep listening to my favourites from that year, and before you know it, the year's gone and a new round of national finals is beginning. ;) But I should indeed take out some time to familiarise myself with the pre-2000 years!

Meh, she's okay I think, I've heard a lot worse coming out of The Voice and other 'talent' shows! Absolutely, song comes first, though a singer can lift it up further or turn it into a carwreck as well. ;) So I'll wait for Kathleen's song, the end result could be either good or bad I think.

Leyla - Bo - omg an early 00's Enrique song , her voice is nice, the song's a bit meh, but I like it! loving the Spanish
Adir Getz - Haikar Sheani Shar - The start isn't promising, just meh, also the kitschy lyrics.
Ortal Ofek - Tell Me Why - her voice seriously annoys me, and the song is quite forgettable as well.
Adi Cesare - We Will Never Let You Fall - Didn't like his disq song last year, and not this year, the langauge shift was good though.
Shani Zamir - Forever - well finally a new name having a surprisingly good song, I really liked it!
Ron Weinreich - Love Is One - loving the beat here, surprised as I don't really like his previous stuff,
Aderet - Victory - L-A-M-E. just ew.
Kathleen Reiter - Jusqu'a moi - So this is the song people expected, her voice sounds so weak in the beginning, this is not that great as people thought it would be, I'm disappointed :/
Judah Gavra - We're Beautiful - this is a nice song, though a bit old fashioned to me, it doesn't seem much affected by the language change.
Lihi Griner & 69 - Just Like Me - better than I expected, not so good though xD Omri "69" Segal's is extremely lame.

This is quite a good semi final. I like how Israel's ballads are usually quite melancholy. I really like "Tell Me Why". It's very Regina Spektor-ish. Incredibly promising. This year thus far is certainly missing melancholy slower songs. "We Will Never Let You Fall" is also nice.

However......

"Viiiiiiictoryyyyyyy, viiictory. Can you believe it all happens to us.. toniiiiiiiiiightttttttttttt"

Epic. This needs to be Israel's entry. I knew that Sweden had added the catwalk to their stage design for a reason and that reason is Aderet. Just picture the scene... we are entering the final chorus "Viiiiiiiiiiiictoryyyyyyyy!!!" Aderet struts down the catwalk as confetti falls. The crowd go wild!xyes

Israel is the country with most trans and cross artists/capita it seems.

- Dana International
- Nikka (as in Henree feat. Nikka)
- Offer Nissim

And now Aderet

There may be more, but it's still an impressive number for a quite small population that includes atleast a partly very conservative community.

In Sweden we only have a couple of famous drag acts, but no actual trans artists... and we're suppose to be "progressive and liberal"..

Sarit Avitan - Mon Amour - this is so.. eh, bland, the music is ok.
Hen Cohen - The Heart's Asks - not a fan of his voice, very forgettable.
The Ultras - Happy Birthday - What the.. this is more interesting than the other songs, but this is just bad ;;
Ran Sandler - Find A Way - started boring, the chorus is very good! her voice isn't so great imo, but this if far better than the previous songs.
Moran Mazuz - Give Me A Sign - I like her voice, the english part is unnecessary, loving the dramatic music!
Soulkey - Living One Time - who stole this song from Romania!?!? this is.. ok? ;; the lyrics are uber-kitschy
Haya Samir - Happy And Sad - this does not start well.. at all... it's special though! ;;
Vladi Blayberg - We Are Free - his voice kinda annoys me, at least the song starts ok, but then came the chorus, oh my god how lame ;;
Yarden Tsur - Replace You - oh my that music :beat: but she sounds like a 7 year old ;; her english kills me, should've been in Hebrew alone.
Roni Silver - In My Heart - started the most interesting song, it's alright I assume.

what a shitty semi.
Soulkey & Roni were the least worst.
