I dunno what happened with Georgia? Great debut, good positions, but since the debut we got pretty awful entries (2010 was ok but still generic). Why the low interest? Top. 10 in final (or almost) at every try is GOOD! C'mon Georgia!!

Matt

I'm not sure why there is so little interest in Georgia. Two Top 10 results in a row is pretty impressive so you'd think there would be some interest. It's a shame and I wouldn't be too surprised if they withdrew again in the near future especially knowing (or at i'm pretty confident) that they are going to flop this year.

My thought exactly, however their withdrawal in 2009 was not due to lack of interest though (as well all know).

It's strange though, when they announced their participation for 2012 they went out and say they will make lots of effort, seeing it a possibility to promote Georgia and it's culture now that ESC were coming to the Caucasus for the first time, and what happened with that? We ended up with a literal BAD joke entry.

The most classy entry they've sent was 2007, 2010 was also decent, Eldrine was 5 year olds trying to make a rock song, anything but classy imo, more like total mess

Maybe Nini Shermadini would like to go solo next year? Very possible... She's a good live singer, but her song in Georgian NF 2011 was a crap, and this year she was a back vocalist of Anri! (I guess it was the peak of her career, to be a back vocalist of "I'm a joker" )

Georgia confirmed :)

esctoday.com » Blog Archive » Georgia confirms participation in Malmo! (http://www.esctoday.com/?p=37525)

I really hope they will send something GOOD for a change! I still can't get over that the country sending one of the best debuts in ESC history (Visionary Dream - 2007) and ending up in the top. 10 (or near) at almost each try, doesn't put more effort in this, 2012 in particular was a disaster but 2011 wasn't much better imo (still they ended up high ... diaspora power?)...

I'm still rooting HARD for Nino Chkeidze (or something else with a local touch, although she remains my first pick), and will continue to do so until they pick someone like her

Without a doubt their best entry to date and one of the best debut entries in ESC ever imo.

I can't believe they started this strong to just fall really low quality-wise the year after, such a pity. 2010 was ok but a bit too safe and polished (and 'un-Georgian') imo, but except for '07 and '10 they sent cr*p imo.

That's true. 2008 wasn't horrible, but not great either. 2011 was bad and 2012...well, I cant even find a word for it.
2010 was great though, loved it. Visionary dream is better though. Its a type of song that we dont listen to very often. To be honest I really wouldnt mind seeing a song like this in the top 3 or, who knows, winning the whole thing!

2011-2012 were pure horrors for me, 2008 was pretty bad aswell. I didn't love 2010 but it was decent.

Well, since Georgia is in my personal top. 3 of 2007 I guess I wouldn't have mind if it would have won back then, certainly more worthy than the actual winner imo.

It's sad though what happened with Georgia in ESC, they were off to such a good start and then it all just fell flat.

It doesn't seem like there is a lot of interest for their NF, maybe they are better off with an internal selection.

It's Sopho Gelovani and Nodiko Tatishvili for Malmö! (http://www.esctoday.com/40818/sopho-gelovani-and-nodiko-tatishvili-to-represent-georgia/) Both are products of Geostar (Georgian Idol), as Gelovani came second in 2010 while Tatishvili won it outright in 2009!

Personally, taking a quick glance at their performances at Geostar, I think we'll be looking at another Ell/Nikki type set up, however Sopho actually has talent, and Nodiko's not an annoying prat. I'm saying Ell/Nikki because, looking at other male/female duets in the recent past, an Ovi/Paula or AySel/Arash gig wouldn't be what these two would go for, however they don't seem as dreary as Kamil/Nela.

Shine is way too safe imo, it's a decent ballad and it was performed well, but it leaves me kinda empty. I'm totally against importing entries from other countries and I can't understand why these relic American ballads are still present in ESC? I mean the world did move on for the past 20 years

I'm afraid it'll be something cheesy or even cheesier than that based on the clip of them singing together, but I hope that it'll be an ethno-ballad in Georgian since they also did stuff like that on their own so I'm crossing my fingers for something like that.

Seriously there NEED to be some new rules in ESC, this selling-out can't go on.

I think entries MUST be done by citizens of the competing country.

I'm very disappointed (but this was expected, I blame the JURIES for corrupting this contest with their anti-native taste and English biasism!).

Can you please stop hi-jacking every other thread with your jury hate? Stuff like that has happened for many years, even with 100% televote.

No I can't and I'm not "hi-jacking" anything. The whole reason this is happening is broadcasters wanting to cater to this small group of people who have equal say as millions of viewers, and this just happens to be their taste.

G:son something different? I doubt... but it's true that his stuff for Spain has been better than most of the stuff he entered in MF or our neighbors, but that's because Spain always keeps something Spanish in it (and I don't just mean the language). As for Georgia, we'll up for another 'Shine' treat where Nordic writers hand them a somewhat bland ballad in English.

Why are you supporting this "import a song" concept? It's destroying the whole idea of ESC. 2012 was filled with Swedish songs, where in the concept "representing your country" does it fit to import a product from abroad to represent you? There must be some change of rules finally, this just can't go on because it's becoming a farse.

Swedish Songs Contest? Anglovision Song Contest? The Voice of Europe? ... what name should we choose for this "new" Eurovision? xshrug

Not sure if you are talking to me or if that's a general statement but as a matter of fact I am NOT in favor of it and if it was up to me, I'd like to see stricter rules regarding song writing criterias myself. Since this has been the rule though for a VERY long time, I highly doubt it's going to change anytime soon so instead of crying over spilled milk I'll just move on and hope for something different from Mr. GSON.

That's because you like the juries, my analysis of their impact is different that's all. Call it bull crap if you want, but you have no proof of the contrary so.

GSON.

It was directed generally and at you for saying I was "hi-jacking" and stuff, so I just asked if you like this.

Well, 2012 was a record year like this and atleast back in the days with the native language rule, the chances of getting a foreign composer were limited (logically so).

There's nothing officially said that this somehow would be something "completely different", that was just wishful thinking on here.

If this turns out to be an ethno-ballad in Georgian then YEAH, I could believe that... but none here really believes that right? This will mostly be 'Shine v.2'.

'Shine' was performed very well, and it's not 'bad' it's just completely safe and with no connection to neither Georgia or contemporary music *yawn*

It's close to my top. 10 for that year though... but I prefer more interesting and/-or genuine entries. This import a product from abroad is really boring.

Too bad Georgia is not promoting their own composers. This is not good news... And especially not for the georgian music scene. One thing is the fact that G:son products have been voted the winner of NFs in several countries. Another thing is to actually give him the job to compose the one song to represent the country.

Congratulations, Nodi & Sophie, on being selected to represent Georgia at the 2013 Eurovision Song Contest.
How does it feel to be representing your country?

Sophie: I am so happy that I am representative of Georgia for this year's contest. It is a huge responsibility and we will do everything to get support from Europe.
Nodi: It is an honour for me too and I am proud of this.

Have either of you tried to participate at Eurovision in previous years?

Sophie: I have never participated in national selections of Eurovision. Although there were many international musical competitions in my life.
Nodi: I always had a big desire of this. In 2009 I participated in national selection but I was not lucky enough.

Have you worked together before on the stage?

Sophie: Nodi is one of my best friends and of course we have a big experience of working together on the stage.

Do you both watch the Eurovision Song Contest each year what are your favorite Eurovision songs?
Sophie: I am watching this contest every year and I think Loreen’s song was really amazing.
Nodi: Eurovision song contest is magnificent event for every musician and of course I watch it every year. Euphoria was very memorable and a stunning entry.

Last year Georgia failed to reach the final of the Eurovision Song Contest for the first time. Is this something the general public reacts to and if so, how?

Nodi: It was our first fail and it was not pleasant at all but we all know that the Eurovision song contest is one of the most unpredictable contests ever.

Who are your musical influences and who are your favourite music artists?

Sophie: Barbara Streisand is my favourite artist still from childhood so she had influence on my musical taste for sure. Also I would like to say Gino Vannelli.
Nodi: Luther Vandross, George Michael and Rachel Ferrell are my favourite musicians.

Are there plans to record an album together?

Sophie: Yes we are going to record album soon.

Will you speak to any previous Georgian Eurovision representatives to seek their advice about performing at the Eurovision Song Contest?

Sophie: They are our colleagues. We received many congrats and advices from them.
Nodi: We meet each other very often on the various concerts. All of them are our friends.

What would be your reaction if you win the the Eurovision Song Contest for Georgia, and how would you celebrate?

Sophie: I will cry a lot (smiling)
Nodi: We will dedicate this victory to our country and our patriarch who became 85 years old a few days ago.

Finally, is there a question, that I have not asked you, that you would like to ask yourselves, and what would the answer to it be?

Ok our question is: what will change in our life after Eurovision?
Nodi: We will meet new friends and colleagues, it’s very important I think.
Sophie: It is the biggest contest I have ever participated in. I am sure impressions which I will get in Sweden will completely change my life

6th February 2013, 02:30
Maybe it'll get better idk, but that snippet sounded awful.

Which leads me to think, what if G:Son is deliberately sending his a-game to Melodifestivalen and giving the Georgians something he scribbled on a train journey. It is something that could realistically happen, and I'm very worried that it is happening. The contest used to be all about the song writer, if you'll remember, the prize was always given to the songwriters and the singers were seen as just another instrument. I think there should be some kind of rule put in place to stop this kind of thing, where one composer/lyricist can't compose/write lyrics for more than one country. It's comparable to having the same performer for more than one country in my eyes. Let's not forget that this is a competition.

Those snippets of the song sounded very dull, indeed as if G:Son had given the georgians his left overs. Infact I find it always the case when the Swedish write for other countries, the songs seem to be always soo mediocre.. yet we have all seen the success of Azerbaijan and it doesn't get anymore mediocre than the song they won with so who knows what will happen with this.

I didn't hear any similarities between this and Quedate Conmigo apart from the key change 2/3 of the way, but I was never on the QC bandwagon, and this one however is not bad either. And although I loved Joker, I have to agree to one of the previous posters that it is better than last year.

Chee:son goes jurywank part II. Meh. This time at least I do not hate it.

Edit: Now I actually pretty much like it.

As far as i saw, Turkish fans love that song (like it matters), but i really don't see it. There is nothing special or new for me in that song.

This is as similar to Quédate Conmigo as Quédate Conmigo was similar to a zillion other songs before it. Same formula, different songs. Both lack that litle twist which would make them special. As it is, they're just two more drops in a huge, old crowd.

Nice song. But made in Georgia? Or Sweden perhaps?

Quédate Conmigo was a big pastiche of a song. This is perhaps a comparatively smaller one.

I'm sorry but while the orchestration is great, it seems like this is some Beauty & Beast reject (yes, I know, typical Maltese NF song before anyone points a finger at me!! :)) - nice but that's it.

Well at least 'Running Scared' was somehow modern, this is just old-fashioned fluff which my granny would enjoy!

I agree and I think it is the best one along with the Albanian one (the Albanian one looks like a different insect though.. quite interesting).

5pts from me,an ok song, i think will qualify to the final, mainly because we are talking abt a very weak Esc this year.......(so far.......)

Cant believe after so many songs having been released, I still havent listened to one that drives me (even moderately ) crazy.....:(

(my country's song being excluded  )

Which is exactly why they made it, the grannies in the juries will love this. Another jury-wank next to Russia.

I don't care for it. Heard it once and already forgot it. Wouldn't be surprised to see it qualify, it's a token ballad.

The song is extremely bland and forgettable. It does absolutely nothing for me. Yes, it's better than the "Joker", but it's still bad. I believe that it will qualify and probably do well, since it is Georgia.

But still - 1 point.

Everything about this looks and sounds so ridiculously fake. And the worst part of it all is that it's so damn effective  G:son knows his craft.

As much of a ripoff as it is, I can't deny that it's a very pretty melody and they look cute together, even with their lack of chemistry. I'm not sure if people are too tired of this stuff, but if they're not, I think it's gonna reach top 10 -.-

2nd best Georgian entry ever^^

It sounds ok, a bit dull. It's not offensive at least.

Georgia for me so far has been a country that peaked on their debut and it's just been going downhill since then.

Visionary Dream remains as one my favourite eurovision entries ever. Since then I've only sorta liked One More Day but I wasn't impressed with the rest. This year seems like no exception.

Yes Running Scared actually had a hook despite it also being an average song.

This is just a whole lot of nothing.

I changed my vote from 7 to 6. I think 7 points was too much. I find it extremely unoriginal. And I don't like the fact that these eastern countries almost every year try to sound American and/or Swedish. I don't know why they are holding back from sending something either in their language, or something with folk/ethnic influences, or even both. Of course, I don't want this every year because I like to see diversity from each country, one year something folk and in the native language, another year something pop and maybe in English, next year something rock, etc... I'm not saying this for Georgia, but in general. I'd prefer this song with the same melody to be sang in Georgian, for example. This would make it more unique. Now it sounds like a thousand songs I've heard before. xshrug

Btw, whenever I see the title, I'm thinking: I am close to the waterfall. I thought that I'd been over my head for the last time. :?

I agree with people about this doing very well in May. For these reasons:

1) Jury's support (they just love average and old fashioned songs like this especially if they have good vocalists)
2) Like I said for Russia, this kind of songs are easy to be voted by the public too, something simple but memorable, because it sounds like a thousand other songs they've heard before
3) It's Georgia

Sean
4th March 2013, 10:31
Yeah, it's by-the-numbers, yeah, it's a G:Son job and it's pretty similar to the structure of Quédate conmigo but I'm willing to stick my neck out and say this is one of the front-runners to win. Very pleasant!

ParadiseES
4th March 2013, 11:07
Then if this is so similar to "Quédate conmigo" and this wins or gets close to win, that would be so unfair and would show us that all the countries are not treated in the same way.

At the moment that they announced that they would import a ballad in English by G:son all my expectations were gone...

Sure, it's better than the noise they sent in 2012, but still cheesy and boring.

Sounds like a combination of In a Monment Like This and Quédate Conmigo (no surprise its G:son) but nowhere near as good as either and certinly not as liked by me. It lacks IAMLT chatchness and the powerful vocals of Pastora. Everything about it is so predicatable and not in a good way. It just looks so fake and phony right down to the smallest performer movements and song structure. The singers do nothing to elevate the song above its averagness like the others did.

I'm surprised in a way (but not totally) that the response is so positive. I think Georgia can come close to or match its personal best but I don't see them doing any better.
