seriously, this pop thing is going nowhere. maybe we should try some rock or something. we have plenty young hopes in that genre.

seriously, this pop thing is going nowhere. maybe we should try some rock or something. we have plenty young hopes in that genre. But wait, Colonia's pop and the pop's of the ex-Croatian representers isn't the same, in my opinion; Colonia is a real pop-dance and ex-representers were not, it was all very weak and bland.

I don't mind differences, always up for new things. ^^ So yeah, maybe something rocky wouldn't be bad.

My absolute #1 pick for Croatia would be:

Jelena Rozga

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0T7X-v3oJGw

And I actually wouldn't mind seeing Severina back, as a matter of fact she's one of the acts I'd welcome back with open arms:

Magazin

Colonia is a total bore these days, they were good 5-10 years ago, now all they do sound like weak copycats of their older songs.

Well, if I will be in the mood to follow the ESC next year (after some big disappointments in the last few years I am considering an idea to quit it, but I will see), I would like the next ones so far:

COLONIA
Franka Batelić

Lana Jurčević
Natali Dizdar
Žanamari Lalić.

Maybe some other ones will be on my "wishlist" later on. :)

Lana could be a good choice with a good song.

I don't know about Colonia, their style has gotten quite stale.

In terms of Jelena Rozga, I'd like to see her in ESC only if she has a decent song but if she's planning on peddling dated disco-folk, she can stay home.

HipHop in ESC = failure.

Also juries/voters are not too fond of westernized pop in local languages.

I hope for Jelena, but it better be in her regular folk-pop style, otherwise I just smell another Croatian failure.

Maja Šuput wouldn't be a bad choice, imo. she's cute, performes well live, has loads of experience...

I still regret 2008., she would have been better choice than Kraljevi ulice (they ended up in bottom 5)

Nina should have sung something like Mama or Ljudi of ljubavi :). I agree that she was robbed!

Hele.
26th June 2012, 20:54
I don't think Nina was robbed. I just think her performance was bad. In my opinion it was too dramatic for song that asks for simplicity. I would like that in last part of the song she redressed in white dress and that LEDs turned from dark sky color to cyan color like on Dora. And definitely without unnecessary panel in the end of the song. That would be more effective, that is for sure.
She definitely has song which could bring final to her, but I think for singer of her renown she should have much better song. At least something like Dat će nam Bog. And she could make some great performance with some of dance groups of supertalent (a talent show in Croatia where she is member of jury). Something like this: Nina Badric - Dat ce nam Bog ( Supertalent ) - YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x7j-CnfF9Ao)

Disagree.. Nina had a good song and it appealed much more to me than the more typical entry Femminem sent.

I also disagree her uptempo stuff would be better, the only good Nina songs I've heard so far were ballads, but in general her material is kinda weak.

Croatia is my all-time-favourite-country in ESC. I love their entries for 1995, 1996, 2000, 2005, 2008 and 2009 and really like all the rest except the English ones (even they were okay/would of been good in Croatian) and 2010. Would love to see a great emotional schlager ballad again. Vukovi umiru sami was unlucky to participate in 2005; I believe in most other editions it would have cracked the Top5. And I pray for DORA to be brought back again. Really, the best national final I have seen.

While it's not my all-time favorite country, it's indeed among my all-time favorite ESC countries. The last decade has been quite uneven though, I also like the 2005 entry alot (but I wouldn't call it schlager ballad?? more like ethno/dalmatin/balkan ballad?), aswell as 2006, then I didn't really like any Croatian entry for 5 years in a row (2009 was ok-ish). Nina belongs to my favorites from the past 10 years of Croatian entries, interestingly cause I didn't like her as a pick nor the song from the get-go, but it totally grew on me and I think she deserved a better outcome.

I hope though they will find back to those glory days, and yeah I also miss Dora, but quite often the wrong entries have been chosen from there but nevertheless would be nice to have it back as it was indeed one of the strongest national selections.

My first pick for 2013 would be Jelena Rozga however, if she is interested that is.

I agree that recent years were a bit of a letdown. 2010 and 2011 were weak and while I like Nebo too it stood very small chances from the beginning. But "the traditional Dora's" track record was not bad actually; in all years but one they qualified or prequalified for the final which already is like a place in the upper half. So I really hope it will make a come-back.

I liked Colonia... but they lost their mojo so to speak... they are really not the same band as they once were, their glory days are over. I find them just making weak versions of their older songs these days.

Nope, it better will be Jelena Rozga!! Something like this new song by her would be fab! :

Franka Batelic... I only liked one song from her. Both of her Dora tries were pretty dull/dated and I doubt she wouldve achieved anything at ESC with those songs.

It's too bad Nina wasted her chance at ESC with such a non-song, she should get another shot in the future.

I think the performance was bad and uninteresting, and that was one reason it failed. In the music video, it had something that fascinated you and made you get into the song. Got it, it certainly is a unique music style and reminds me of Volksmusic which is quite popular among the older population but in a song contest it stands no chance if you ask me. So if Slovenia is focusing on qualifying to the Finals, this is not the right path to choose IMO

I agree with Lak on this one. Well, I'm not saying that you shouldn't send klapa music, but I do think that it wouldn't gain success.

I just think that other countries wouldn't "get" this kind of music. When I hear it, I can imagine Dalmatia, sea and other related stuff and that's why it falls into the context. Someone from UK will have no idea what this songs are about and therefore - they just won't catch the spirit.

Second that, I didn't like any of these Klapa clips above. I really want something traditional/ethno from Croatia, but not in this boring dated way. Plz don't do this Croatia, you can bring ethno to ESC in better ways like you've don in the past.

I'm still rooting for Jelena Rozga or Magazin, heck I'd love to see Severina back aswell. Colonia... whatever... there are plenty of better options if you want an ethno twist.

25th November 2012, 21:23
I'm not that surprised or sad about this decision. Klapa is the music I grew up listening to, and it would be nice to finally see that part of croatian heritage on ESC. If such a song would've been sent in the 60's it would do good, but nowadays I don't see it getting more than 20 points in the semi. Although I must praise HRT for not getting all trashy (like they did in 2011.). Personally I'd like to see Klapa Kampanel, Klapa Libar, Cambi or Klapa Sveti Florijan... the ones I really don't wanna see us representing are Klapa Intrade (+ Tomislav Bralić) or Klapa Maslina because their melodies are literally always the same (lyrics too).

Plus there can be various versions.....so I suggest to wait until the final choice for the band and for the song style. OK?

Hmm, I'm confused... isn't Klapa a band?? I've thought so throughout this discussion

I was judging the YT videos posted on one of the previous pages, it looked like the same band on all the videos and there was even a Wiki-link to some band with the name Klapa

So Klapa is a genre??? Well that changes things I guess... I feel so stupid because I honestly thought it was ONE band with ONE style of music and here I was totally against the idea with no actually understanding of what it was

So WHAT exactly is "Klapa" then? The clips on the other page sounded kinda same-y and I didn't like any of them so I was jumping too fast on the "No to Klapa bandwagon" ... is their examples of different takes at this genre?

Even I personally like klapa music, I'm not to confident that ordinary European audience will understand it on right way. And that's the reason why I believe that song will not be in classical klapa manner, probably some mix of klapa singing style an pop elements in music. And that can be very good combination

And much much better option would be Istrian or Slavonian ethno music (if HRT want than kind of music)
