Just asking.

Select the one you use the most often if you use both or the three of them.

I'm using Windows 7 :D. I'm just so used to the Windows system, that I don't want to switch.
My parents did have an old Macintosh before, and it never broke down. They just decided to throw it away because it was so old and it occupied so much space

Due to total fiasko of Windows 8, Microsoft is about to release
Windows 8.1

All demos I've seen are still using touchscreens. Who on earth have and will ever have a touchscreen PC? And who wants a Windows phone? I would perhaps want an Android tablet. :D I strongly dislike the ideas and direction Microsoft has taken with Windows 8 and the new Windows 8.1 doesn't seem to be able to change that. I will try the preview which is out now though.

edit:
Windows 7 will still going strong 2020

^^ I agree and I think the same.

I tried Windows 8 but I switched back to Windows XP after only two days. I totally dislike the concept of Windows 8 and the idea they are trying to implement. I don't want my desktop PC to be a phone, I want to be a desktop PC.

I am using Windows 7 since February, and it is definetly the best OS ever.

I'm currently using Mac OS X Mountain Lion, but sometimes I tend to use Windows 7 as well. I'm curious whether Microsoft manages to improve Windows 8 as it was horrible to use from the beginning.

Dual boot (Boot camp) or virtual?

I once made a serious attempt on building a Hackintosh, bought special hardware (Gigabit) etc. Didn't work very well in the end. :D

Venage
1st August 2013, 17:51
^

It depends. If I only want to lauch a small application in Windows I prefer Parallels but if I need a lot of computing power or if I want to play games I prefer Bootcamp :D I also thought about building a Hackintosh but in the end I didn't have much of a reason to do it. I will use my Macbook Pro and my iMac for a few years and when they're death slow I will replace them if Apple doesn't screw up OS X.

I have a dual boot - Fedora and Windows 8. I've been using Windows 8 for more than one year now and I'm satisfied with it. The major difference is the Metro user interface but actually you don't have to use it at all.

LalehForWD
1st August 2013, 21:45
^^ OK. After all - under the hood, Windows 8 is still Windows and have some great innovations compared to Win7 (API wise). :) I used to love tweaking with Windows, but Windows 8 just wasn't appealing to me.

I don't get why you have dual boot to Fedora though. Why not running it virtual with VMware in Windows?

installed linux for day-trial. i liked it, but some programs didnt work with it, so meh. although, as free OS, it is veeeery good.

Yeah, I rather prefer Windows 8, when I need to choose. That system is just interesting and innovatory. Windows 7 is just calque of Vista, IMO xshrug

Milos-BC
2nd August 2013, 08:03
^^ It is only an attempt of innovation, but a bad one. Many things are barely functioning, and I had so much problems starting from the drivers .......until gaming. There are two many changes and while it is good to introduce something new, it is not strange that the sales of Windows 8 are so low. It is funny, but every second OS that Microsoft releases ends being a good one. So the successor of Windows 8 may be something that will be good, if this trend continues :D

Windows 7 is far more than a revamp of Vista. It has a lot of improvements both in the registry, the system and the hierarchy itself. Windows 7 is what Vista should've been. Windows Millennium looks like a revamp of Windows 98, but Windows 98 is at least 5 x better than Millennium, that is, btw, the worst OS that Microsoft ever released (and Win 8 will join him probably on this list).

It is up to you to decide, but I wouldn't put Windows 8 on my PC now even if they would pay me.

I have Windows 7 on my computer for about a year now. Before that I had Windows XP and for me it was pretty hard to get used to W7, beacuse they are very different. But now I wouldn't change it for nothing on this world :)

I don't get why you have dual boot to Fedora though. Why not running it virtual with VMware in Windows?

It's because I need to have full performance of my computer available (for programming - sometimes I write big projects which need lots of system resources) + sometimes I use Fedora for weeks non-stop so it's better for me this way.

If you didn't buy a Mac only because it's Apple you will be fine. I hope you have tested it in an Apple Store beforehand because Macs are quite expensive as you should know by now

Of course, my dad has a Mac and nope it's not because it is Apple :p.
I chose this one, because of the good quality (battery, almost no viruses,...). I hesitated between a notebook/netbook and this macbook. The macbook is small & big enough to use it for work and free time. While a little netbook/notebook is not so comfortable imo :D.
