View Full Version : Runaway or close winner ?

Quent91
6th March 2011, 15:02
Since the songs for the 2011 ESC are not the best compared to last year and 2009, do you think we'll have a runaway winner, as it was in 2009, or a close tie as it was in 1998 ?

I think we could have a close tie for 2-3 countries...

6th March 2011, 15:05
Hm.. If I consider the case that none of the songs really stand out, I think we'll have a tie between 2 or 3 countries. But ofc all the songs aren't chosen yet so.. we'll have to wait a lil' bit :D

I also think we will not have a runaway winner this edition. It could be a very exciting voting (like the one in 2003), as no song stands out a lot from the rest.

I also think we're gonna get countries we don't usually see in the final, like ::nl, ::sk, ::pl, ::sl, ...?

My top10 are all awesome sooo... I think close this year...

0 votes for runaway and 7 for close tie :)
After hearing the songs till now I expect a close tie :)

It will be a close tie.
There is no song this year, that could make a runaway like in the last two years.

6th March 2011, 16:35
I'd say close, which is actually a good thing, because it'll make the voting part exciting again, in 2009 and 2010 you sorta knew the winner in forehand and after half the voting it was already obvious for the viewer.

I think it will be a close tie, I wanna say there are gonna be a lot of Slavic countries in the top 10 this year, the songs from that region this year are a lot better than the rest I wanna say.

Loukas

Close tie, really.

If UK chooses a pretty good song, it will be more than 20 points difference. Otherwise, it might be close.

Though it's a little bit too early to make a prediction as we still don't know all of the songs I expect another clear result in 2011.

As you remember last year we had no clear favorite in the betting odds whatsoever it was a close race until the very end between several countries but in the end Germany convinced with a great live performance impressing the televoters and juries. And depending on the performance one or two songs may just benefit from a great and likable live show setting themselves apart from the rest.

So my prediction is to have a clear winner but we won't know until may 14th who that is going to be.

If the United Kingdom wins (without knowing the song atm), I think we may have about a 20 point lead or something. If, for example, it's Russia, then I think they will have a larger lead, maybe 30-40 points, but certainly no absolute run-away (unless Blue's song is spectacular).

I think, it will be a close match at the end.

For me German song stands out, but I doubt Lena will win again. She will be in top 10 imo :)
It will be a close tie ;)

I don't know but what i truely hope it's that Poland, France, Hungary, Estonia are all going to be in the top 10 this year, even the top 5.

They are great members of the eurovision family and haven't achieve great great result for a long time and their songs are really among the best this year.

I wouldn't mind Slovenia either, as it's good esc country and it hasn't been anyway near the top for a very long time too and everybody but me seems to think it's a great song:D

I like Bulgaria, Serbia & Croatia a lot too but here it's more personnal taste.

Anyway i think country that does usually not well made an effort this year and i want to see them rewarded!

I have nothing against Ukraine, Armenia & Greece, those are great esc countries but these year they aren't good enough in my opinion.

It will be an amazing esc if the fight is between France & Hungary or Estonia & Poland for me.

It could be so close this year.

Norway, Estonia, Germany, Russia, France - they could all win. And even UK and Sweden might be added to those 5 favorites as soon as we know their songs.

Much more exciting than last year where you just knew it was gonna be either Germany or Azerbaijan.

Close tie for now ... only if some of the remaining countries will have some "boom" song which can easily win

Quent91
9th March 2011, 17:33
I don't think we have to expect a lot from ::az, ::by, ::sm...

Maybe ::se will be a little boom boom if they send Eric Saade, but won't win with that

I don't think we can predict if it will be a runaway or a close competition.

For eurovision I hope for a close one, like 2003.
As beautiful as Alexander Rybak's song was, the boring was the voting

busybee
13th March 2011, 16:40
I think it will be the closest race we've seen in years. So many favourites this year.

bashers
13th March 2011, 16:45
Yeah I think it will be close between France, UK, Sweden and maybe one or two others such as Hungary and Poland!

Suiness
13th March 2011, 17:19
I think the main battle will be between France and the UK overall. Sweden will score high with televoting, doubt it will gain much with the juries mind, this will inevitably hurt the Swedish entry

sannerz
13th March 2011, 17:23
I have a feeling France won't go over as well as everyone is expecting. And that list is two Western. There's always a couple of Eastern European countries in the mix too.

This year, I think it will be between:

::ee ::se ::ru ::ba ::de ::uk

JackBauer
13th March 2011, 21:38
It will be between France, UK, Sweden, Estonia, Poland & Hungary, the more i think about it, the more i fear Poland!

Quent91

::az might be in the top 5 (the song has just been released on youtubecom/eurovision)

14th March 2011, 00:08
This year it'll be a close one between

Norway, France, Sweden, UK, Estonia and Azerbaijan.

If the Russian entry gets given a 'kick' it will be there or there abouts come the Eurovision final

JackBauer
14th March 2011, 02:09
I really don't see the Azeri higher than 10-6 really, i don't know but Slovakia & France ballads look more appealing to juries in my mind compared to it.

I have a sneaky feeling we'll have a runaway winner, and that winner will be UK, even though I think there are several better songs.

LakZaNokte
14th March 2011, 09:50
I'm predicitng a runaway but can't say who will it be :D
seriously, songs that sound great on yt can easily flop on stage (it happens when it all doesn't come together - singer, singing, music; if audience just doesn't "feel" the song performed) so I'm not saying anything :D

btw, I don't think the winner will be from Great 5 (simply the odds - nobody won for ages and then 2 in a row...I doubt it)

Simon87
15th March 2011, 18:33
Close tie for sure

I voted for a runway. Since all the songs are quite bad I think Europe will find the best (if there is one) and this will take the most votes... But who knows?

Close because sweden is good but the lyrics are so bad that can't make a b ig margin. basically none of the songs are good enough.
they all lack a major feature in some fashion

doctormalisimo
16th March 2011, 23:03
it won't be a nail-biting finale, but it will be closer than the landslides of the last few years. Its between Estonia, Sweden and Bosnia & Herzegovina for me.

keinan9
17th March 2011, 00:31
if it is going to be a close race I think we will see a surprise winner - france/Hungary would by my guess

Or we are going to landslide and then it would be U.K and blue.....

in any event I think that beside spain all the rest of the now big 5 would do very good, all of them would make it to the top 10 in my opinion....

alca
17th March 2011, 02:10
^ Lol why do I think that only Spain will get in the top 10? ok maybe Germany too because it's Lena.

I predict a close run betwen ::uk and ::hu that will go until the last two votes will be anounced. Also ::is and ::fr may bump up in the begining, but I don't think they can keep up with the first two.

But I guess you would know better if that is true....

I haven't heard about that until now. But I don't think that it's true. It would be very difficult for the spokepersons and the national televisions.
