LOL, why does everybody always think that the Estonian song was bad? (I remember reading a similar topic on the old forum too) I personally didn't like it much either and I think that most other Estonian songs are better, but I can't see how this is worse than, say, Latvian or Danish song.

I don't find it bad, just worse than most other winning entries.

Back to topic: Latvia 2002 was for me the worst winner.

2010 all the way..she didn't deserve to win..bad diction,no voice(64 notes missed-wtf?),stupid lyrics, insult to the other countries who were serious on Eurovision.More than this,Erovision will become now X factor or Europe's got talent or something like this.Sorry but this is the truth.
Sweden,Ukraine,Georgia,Turkey,Belgium(the best singer-only 8 notes missed),Armenia,Greece,Romania,Albania,Spain,Israe l,Portugal,B&H,Ireland,Cyprus would have been decent winners this year.Sorry

While Lena didn't have the best voice of the contest - far from it - I do wonder whether those 64 notes missed include the parts of the song where she spoke the words. Her song wasn't intended as an exhibition of perfect vocal gymnastics. What it was was a very catchy tune that got stuck in a lot of people's heads in the weeks leading up to the contest.

I also don't understand how holding a long-running talent search programme to select your artist and song is not taking the contest seriously.

She didn't deserve to win according TO YOU. The vast majority of europeans disagree with you on this one. Germany was taking it very seriously and it paid off. Not sure how you can make such a claim that it's an insult towards other countries. Your comment is insulting towards germans at the same time.
While I strongly disagree with the high placings for some countries such as Turkey, Romania or Ukraine this year I would never dare to call them undeserving just because I think they were trashy.

And I am tired of hearing the whole "64 bad notes". They measured it comparing it to the studio version. Live vocals don't have to be exactly the same as the recorded version. Lena had several talking parts in the song where she pronounced the words differently and put the emphasis on syllables differently from the studio version. So that measurement that was used is a lot of bullcrap and an insult to live singers who like to interpret their songs. Nobody claims she was the best and most professional singer this year but fact is the song appealed to a lot of people.

You sure have a right to call it your least favorite song but making comments such as germany isn't taking it seriously is unfair, insulting and to me sounds like coming from a place of jealousy.

And the fact that Satellite was doing incredibly well in the charts all across europe...i guess I rest my case.

It was my opinion. And I gave my arguments.Everybody says its opinion here, right?
I just don't like it because it can't be compared with songs that will be in the history of esc, especially for esc, like Ukraine 2008,Norway 2010,etc.
This song is a song for radio,tv,good for charts but winning eurovision it's something serious.
Believe me,I didn't want Romania to win,3rd winner is great, and I'm not jealous.
And Turkey and Ukraine are very good songs, but again, everybody with its own opinion.Cheers.

Just want to point out that a song isn't bad or "crap" (as someone said) just because you don't like it.

I love all the winning songs, but the one I don't like as much as the others has to be Estonia, 2001. To be completely honest with you, I don't really even remember them winning. When people ask me to count all the winning songs from 2000-2010, I always forget Estonia! That, to me, is what makes a song bad... because lyric-wise and melody-wise, and maybe performance-wise (?) it's not bad... but it's never good to forget a song after you've heard it over and over... so yeah... I'm not too fond of Latvia, 2002 either, the melody isn't "attractive" to me, haha! But I don't mind listening to all the winning songs from 2000-2010 over and over. I like them all, to me, none of the songs are "crappy".

I voted for Latvia, it was just so unexpected that a song like that would win. I thought that Malta was super robbed that year. I also thought that Believe by Dima wasn't too great live, I would've preferred either Ani Lorak, Kalomoira, or Sirusho to win.

Mickey

2008... Political win.

I don't think it was entirely based on politics. Obviously, Russia is one of those countries, along with Greece and Turkey, that tends to benefit from diaspora voting, but it's not as if they're top 5 every year.

I think a big factor in Dima's win was the fact that his main competitors were all similar sorts of entries. Ani Lorak, Kalomoira and Sirusho were competing for the same pool of voters.

I can't believe there are so many negative comments about Latvia. Am I the only one who liked this? OK I would prefer someone else to win that year but I'm ok with Latvia too. The performace was great and the clothes thing was really smart!

I agree, those songs were dance-ey types of songs, but I didn't think that Believe was the best out of the bunch. In all fairness to the song, it was a good song, it just didn't sound spectacular live. Well, I guess the votes for that year prove me wrong

A lot of bad winners in the 00's but I chose Norway 2009 - I absolutely don't understand the appeal of that song, let alone the overwhelming majority it won by.
Latvia 2002 comes close second - instantly forgettable.
And the bronze goes to Russia 2008 - that pronunciation is just inexcusable.

Up until last year, Latvia 2002 was the worst ESC winner of all time for me, but Germany 2010 turned out to be far worse so my vote went to Satellite.

I Wanna comes at a close second, followed by Everybody and then possibly Fly On The Wings Of Love. All the other entries were either pretty decent or great!

2006 is the worst!

I kinda agree with you. It wasn't really the best song, it was the whole thing that made Hard Rock Hallelujah so interesting - the outfits particularly and the show. You can say what you want, but Lordi had a very good show. And I think they won many votes because of that.

But my vote for the worst winning song the last ten years is still going to Serbia 2007. As I said, a decent song, not my winner that year though.

No, there were other songs that I liked better too and deserved to win instead. France and Denmark, for instance. But your right, Everybody is a catchy song and I simply love it. And when compairing it to the other winning songs coming efter it, I actually think it stands well.

I also like "Everybody" a lot, and imo it is one of the better winners in the 00s (glad to find out I am not alone who likes it )

Actually I enjoyed "Everybody" as well, certainly not the weakest winner of the decade though I'm still bitter France didn't win that year.

Come on, its got to be Serbia 2007!

Indeed! It's still the greatest mystery to me.

In my opinion, it is Dima Bilanīs "Believe" from 2008.
Sure, it is not a really bad song, but in my opinion it is not a song, who deserved to win.

Me too, France had by far the best song that year and deserved to win. No doubt, Natasha St-Pier was terrific.

2009 and Rybak.

2000-2002 were not worthy either, eventhough I was happy that Estonia won their first ESC  Also didn't like Lena last year.

All other songs were great winners for me. I would have loved to see Verka win the show, but you can't win them all :p

I would've felt the same way, had Denmark won this year. There were much better songs imo.

I do not see the problem as it is about the song, not the country (but then I might have chosen Germany as well because I have not visited the other countries except Estonia that I do love ).

I didn't like the Estonian winning song either in 2000.

I thought it was at that point the worst song ever that Estonia had sent. (We've managed to out top ourselves after that ofcourse)

Yes I was happy Estonia won and got to host the contest, but as it's said it's not about the country but the song itself.

Has to be Everybody, closely followed by Believe and I Wanna!

Well, neither of these songs would have won if I had a say in it but for sure the worst is 2001. And to my friends in Estonia: sorry about that, but I really do not like that song

In 2008, I really wanted to win for Russia, though I can not stand Bilan. But in 2009 the victory of the Rybak, I still puzzling. This is the worst choice of Europe

PS. I watched Eurovision since 2003

That's because your probably voted before we changed hosts or something, and when that happened for some reason we get the option right after the one we chose in italic.

Exactly, the actual vote count is correct, just the "who voted" list is screwed up if the poll was moved prior to changing the softward. I the UK thread it shows me I voted for 2003 as their best entry :D

I dont like my own country winning song and I'm not that big fan of Turkish song. As 2001 is Estonia only win I clicked for Turkey.
