My money's on them reentering the ESC.

They've now seen a country that certainly didn't win on account of any neighbourhood/diaspora voting win. Belgium, equally with no natural "lobby" also did well.

Further, Austrians love Lena and I dare say will be anxious for ORF to organise a national selection similar to that Stefan Raab most successfully staged in Germany.

Austria can afford it and I trust there will be a major appetite for going to Berlin (yeah, my money's also on Berlin. Really a no-brainer). ORF surely have the money to pull that off if they want to. It's more a matter of interest. And I'm sure there's no more than enough interest.

DJ Ötzi? :? Has he done anything else than joke songs too? Otherwise it's just going to be "typical" Austrian result if they choose him.

1st June 2010, 14:52
Hmm Maybe not DJ Ötzi should compete by himself..but if he could take the role as Stefan Raab has in Germany, then actually Austria could do a really good song in their comeback! :D

The Austrians can't complain anymore with this result, Come Back! :P

let me see. They laid crap at other broadcasters, at nations, they whined about their results and then you expect me to be happy about their possible come back?
No, ORF, stay where you are. Fire those a--holes responsible for your image and then come back :) People who express such position towards their competitors shouldn't be in charge of the broadcaster. If it's about same people - it would be really hypocrite
"oh, hai moronz, u stole our victories, hate u Eastiez!"
"oh hai, we came back!"

Well even myself have seen Austria like a country that is complaining WAY too much + I have never really liked a song from them except 03 that was pretty fun...

Plus, I don't think we should be that hateful to just ORF..they are MANY broadcasters in Europe that is complaining at other countries..for example did Alyosha say to eurovision.tv that she really disliked that Russia got 11th place (And doesn't NTU dislike Russia a little?) and the Armenia/Azerbaijan situation is a big laugh at the moment, especially after the new complaints from the Azeris that Armenian commentators did not announce Safura.

But anyway, A comeback from Austria would be really nice, and if they don't come back, then let them be outside the fun then! :P

AlekS

My dear Austrian neighbours, if you decide to come back you can send EVERYTHING but not this horrible Menowin guy
This is my thought too.
But if he really wants to participate, and Lugner pushes him, there's a high possibilty
that he could be chosen.

Though I'm hoping for a selection-show or something.
We don't have to send someone prominent IMO.
Austria has a LOT of good singers that are just unknown. =P

I'd be for the industrial-gothic group L'Âme Immortelle, (though they aren't really that undergroundy  )
but that would never ever happen.
They mainly sing about lost love etc.
They have beautiful and gentle songs
(f.E. "Fallen Angel" - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wWKsA9BvaO4 )
and upbeat songs as well (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3hOm4nwCjh8 )

And they could sing either in german, or in english.
They are very talented.
Especially singer Sonja Kraushofer. <3

There is a big chance that Austria will return to the contest in 2011 so there is no surprise that more and more rumors about the selection process and possible candidates would show up in the papers.

Menowin Fröhlich who took part in the german version of Pop Idol voiced his interested representing Austria next year as he has close ties to the country.

There is also a rumor that Austria will have a selection process similar to "Unser star fuer oslo" which was the format used in Germany this year and based on the results we can agree with was quite efficient.

What about Christina Strumer?

I don't know why, but she strictly refuses to participate.
And I don't think she really ever wants to participate.

Unfortunately - Cause I think with a good song she could even manage to qualify for the final,
including a top 15 placing.

EDIT:
For those who don't know her - her singles

Sounds lovely - Austria back in 2011. <3

I'd suggest another austrian artist, called Saint Lu.
Recently she's heavily receiving airplay.
Although she doesn't seem to be that popular yet.

I think with her soulful voice she could reach the audience in many countries.

Here most successfull single: Here I Stand
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kI5jY37IWBY

----

Also there is currently a casting for a show called "Helden für Morgen (Heroes for tomorrow)",
and I wouldn't be suprised, if the winner gets the ticket to Eurovision 2011.

The good thing about this contest is that you can sing in whatever genre you like.
So there's a chance of an austrian Lena, or something like that. ^^

as per esctoday.com

According to ots.at, Austria will return to the Eurovision Song Contest in 2011. The rumour is based on an article to appear in magazine TV-MEDIA on Wednesday. It would be the country's first participation since 2007.
According to the TV-MEDIA press release, the national final format is still being discussed. A talent search format is being considered and there are also plans to include the winner of another talent search, Helden von morgen, in the national final. Alexander Wrabetz, managing director of ORF, is said to have made the decision to return to the contest despite opposition. An official confirmation of the return is still being awaited.

http://eurovisiontimes.wordpress.com/2010/10/14/austria-eurovision-song-contest-adventure/

After taking a break for 3 years, Austria seems to be taking its participation in the Eurovision Song Contest seriously this time. National broadcaster ORF will organize the national selection in cooperation with the biggest pop music radio “Ö3″. From now on Ö3 will ask its listeners to determine “Who will represent Austria in Germany and rock the biggest music stage in Europe?” The project will culminate in a voting show to be broadcast by the ORF in February. Ö3 plans a “longterm initiative for “indigenous” pop music” The entire country is supposed to discuss and talk about music from Austria. To reach the biggest amount of the Austrian population all channels of the ORF and Ö3 will include the topic frequently in their programming. “The trimedial approach concerning the Eurovision Song Contest is the biggest basis ever!. We are convinced that this very democratic model offers the biggest international chances to Austrian talents” , said the programming director of the ORF Wolfgang Lorenz...

From the end of October on, institutions, fan clubs, communities or just simply circles of friends, will be able to nominate their favourites on 023.orf.at. All propositions with more than 33 supporters will then go to the second round, where all Austrians will be able to vote for the 5 best songs. These 5 will then perform in the national final, to be broadcast on ORF.

The Austrian public broadcaster ORF have announced the date of their national final for Eurovision 2011: February 25th. Menawhile, some popular faces with Eurofans have announced their intentions to represent the country again: Alf Poier, who represented Austria in 2003, or Tie-Break member Di Bernardo (2004).

Other known names in the race to represent Austria in Düsseldorf are Oliver Wimmer (winner of the 4th season of Starmania), Bluatschink (Austrian preliminary round for Eurovision 2002), Waterloo (Eurovision 1976), band Alkbottle and Nadine Beiler (winner of the 3rd season of Starmania).

An online voting round will be held in January to decide the contestants to qualify for the final. The show will take place on February 25th and will be aired live on ORF 1. The winner will be decided via televoting.

Please Austria, don't do your comeback with Alf Poier please! :/

I believe you can do better than that?

I miss the Austria that send good entries and didn't act like bad losers when people didn't vote for their bad entries (sorry Austria).

Austria was on top when sending strong ballads in German language, maybe something like that again?

A good position doesn't necessarily mean that the entry is good. I'm still to this day surprised about Poier actually getting such a good position, I doubt juries would vote for something like that though.

But hey, it's all matter of taste in the end ! :)

I agree with A-lister, if juries would have been around in 2003 I am almost certain that song would have been outside the Top 10. Now there is nothing wrong with fun and "goofy" songs.....I LOOOOOOVED Ukraine 2007.
Plus in Poier's last attempt he was trying to go all political and I'm totally against that anyways.

I hope that too. It´s time that Austria comes back. I missed you much during the last years - and mostly I liked the Austrian songs and I think, they were mostly underrated.
One of my big favorites would be Christina Stürmer, but I think, she doesn´t want to go to ESC. Allthough she is very popular in Germany too and so the could rock the stage in Düsseldorf. But I´m sure you will find a great perfomer.

What a pitty. But perhaps next time. I hope the ESC-song of 2011 is also surprising like the German song last year.

That's what I'm hoping. I have a soft spot for Austria and I really want them to do well next year. Several of their entries (especially 2005) were underappreciated.

Matt
23rd December 2010, 17:35
210 songs were submitted to ORF so Germany's victory obviously has brought back a lot of interest in Austria. An internal jury willl select 30 songs for the next rounds and an austrian radio station will air the qualifiers and then the listeners can vote for their favorite entry and the first placed songs will then qualify for the big final night on February 25th.

Some names you may recognize returned:

Alf Poier (2003)
Petra Frey (1997)
Waterloo and Robinson (1976)
Glenys Vargas (Albania 2010 - Background singer)

ronny1988

hope the jury will make a good decision.
it must be very hard to reduce 210 to 30 entries.

PeterLPZ
30th December 2010, 23:07
Oh, I remember the entries of Alf Poier, Petra Frey and Waterloo&Robinson. All three songs were very interesting - even Alf Poier was great on stage. And the Albanian backroundsingers made a great job last ESC.
And you are right, Ronny1988, the jury must do a hard job - I don´t wanna be the one, who should decide, which songs will be in the final at the end. So I hope, they will make a great job. I can´t wait....

Chris Schaller / CoryBanTic had to left the Austrian Casting Show 'Helden von Morgen' today. He become 6th.
Julian Heidrich had to left the show before Christmas. He become 7th.
Lukas Plöchl / Trackshittaz is left in 'Helden von Morgen' from the ESC-Preselection-Artists. He is now in the Top5. He performed today a new Song (also written by himself as 'Oida Taunz')

I heard now all 30 songs and I must say, it´s a very interesting mix of songs. I like many of them.
I have 5 - 6 favorites:

Band WG - 10 Sekunden Glück
Luttenberger Klug - Sternenlichter
Alf Poier - Happy song (with a great performance it could be a big surprise imo)
Sellyy - Lethargie
Charlee - Good to be bad
Trackshittaz/Lukas Plöchl - Oida Taunz. It´s a really funny song and this could be also a big surprise.

But there are many other songs which I like. So I have a good feeling for Austria this year.

I think, the NF will be a big event. It´s really difficult to decide, which song will be the best song for Düsseldorf. But this year Austria has good chances to reach the final, allthough we have to wait, what the other nations will send to ESC. And of course, I´m very interesting in the perfomances of some songs.

It seems obvious to me, but I'll try to explain it without setting off the swear filters.

I assume their name is pronounced "tracks hitters" - they hit tracks. However if you take the s from tracks and move it accordingly, it becomes "track shitters".

EDIT: Hmm, no filter.

I still believe there's something fishy about the Trackshittaz falling actually.

They were in the top.3 for most of the time and just recently they started to fall and now out of the top.10 and add to this that it was already a hit in Austria and one of the few songs known to the public.

I think this is made up :/

I think Trackshittaz can win the NF, because they have a big fan community. But I don't know what the jury decide. (Jury is 50%) I think it would be a close race. When Trackshittaz will go to Düsseldorf, this song would be sing from 2 people. One of them is Lukas Plöchl and the other one is called Manix.

my favourites are Klimmstein ! -> I think they would have the most chances in Düsseldorf.
Band WG, Leo Aberer, Nadine Beiler, Julian Heidrich, -> have good chances that they would do good in Düsseldorf.
Trackshittaz/Lukas Plöchl & Richard Klein -> are funny songs. i can't say how much voting-potencial they would have in Düsseldorf.

Alkbottle -> i don't see that any other nation would like that song.

Marie Broadcast band & Katie Lunette -> both i really dislike. but Mary is way better than Katie. i hope no one of this 2 artists/bands will represent Austria in Düsseldorf.

I KNEW KNEW the juries will f*ck up Trackshittaz chances, as we can obviously see above.

Sorry Austria, you could come back with something that wouldn't go unnoticed, but thanks to snobby juries you'll probably stay in the semis again :/

And my theory about even local juries punishing songs in native language to cater to the taste of the Eurovision juries is pretty obvious in this case aswell! If there would be no public vote, we would simply get more or less just songs in English in this final.

I knew we would get the effect of pro-English Eurovision juries in native selections aswell!

If this madness won't stop in Eurovision, we won't hear anymore native languages in the contest in the future, mark my words!

edit: I just checked it's 100% public vote in the final, thank God! Now I cross my fingers the public will vote decently atleast.

Hmm, I actually can understand this (if it works), to prevent mass-voting for joke acts like we've seen in for example Spanish online voting.

On the other hand, the juries already chose these 30 songs so I guess they were preventing that already.

Oh, may I add that Sellyy is the most overlooked entry by both the juries and televoters!

Scr*w the juries seriously. They are killing Eurovision bit by bit. If it were up to them we would be back in the sleepy pill era of the 80's/90's where the interesting entries ended in the bottom and the most generic ones ended in the top.

Wether you like the juries or not (i prefer juries over the televotes) fact of the matter is they are there and won't go away so you can't just dismiss them because you don't like them. I actually feel they are saving Eurovision but that is my opinion just like you have yours.
All I am stating is that Trackshittaz may not get as much support from them but that is just an assumption.

I know the juries are here to stay (most probably), and I liked the idea of bringing them back actually, but I just think they have been incompetent up until now (my opinion).

Well, I agree with your assumption, and that's why I wrote scr*w the juries ;)

I think the juries are out of touch and have no sense of fun, hit potential or anything else for that matter.

In a couple of years, if the juries' voting patterns continues the same way, I think more people will agree with me when they see that Eurovision has just turned into one dated sleeping pill like it was back in the days.

Does anyone know where I could find an English translation of the lyrics to Oida Taunz? I can only find it in German and online translators are useless (I'm guessing because they mess with the spelling like English rappers might say "Da" instead of "the").

I will join those who like Oida Taunz. Eurovision needs something fresh like that and I'm not so sure that the juries won't vote for it. Actually I'm sure that many of them will, especially the younger generation (under 50). The juries should welcome different and more modern styles of music if they don't want this contest to die a slow death. Power ballads and pop have dominated Eurovision long enough. It's time for a change and I hope that this song will be the beginning of a new era, an era where we can finally enjoy different music styles, even in Eurovision.
But first, Austria has to decide to send it. I hope they will :)
