Hungary will maybe come back because now they have another TV in EBU which would like to join Eurovision :) (btw. not 100% sure)

I hope Hungary will come back in 2011 :)

I believe they will return, TV Duna is now part of the EBU, so it is very likely to see Hungary in 2011.

I'm absolutely sure they'll return. Now that they have two broadcasters and the financial crisis is slowly starting to fade away. :D

It seems Duna TV will be in charge of the NF.
They are gonna broadcast ESC 2010 too (and 3 Countdown shows  sio I guess that they are really interested :D ).

AlekS
26th May 2010, 13:19
^ Unlike certain broadcasters they don't care about the results + they are already clear about participating so don't even hope
+ if Slovakia stays, Hungary will give it high points and vice versa.

94ayd

Poland will definitely stay since they were in the final 2 years ago and are usually the closest country to qualifying from the non-qualifiers. Don't know about the Czech Republic but it would help if all of them (, including Austria) were there.

I'm afraid you might be right about that. No one cares for these countries in the contest, no matter what they send which is a pity since they often deserved better than their outcome and to add that the interest in these countries are low... basically it's just the diaspora groups in these countries who votes and cares (kind of like in the UK/France)

94ayd
31st May 2010, 01:01
Hungary is a different case. You can see that after taking a look at the contests of 2005 & 2007. No idea why 2008 failed and 2009 did so, due to hillarious staging, IMO... Plus, it's the money that troubled Hungary this year, not the results...

Hungarian broadcaster DunaTV, which broadcast the Eurovision Song Contest this year, might submit an entry for Hungary in a future edition of the competition. Previously, broadcaster MTV had pulled out of the competition for financial reason.

Magdi was even 2nd in the semi, and I am sure that she would have top 5 if she had a better draw in the final. Number 8 with balladic-songs on each side around it is not good for that song. :(

You hit the nail :D Thats exactly what the composer wanted, but MTV thought it wouldnt be fair with the other applicants, so they went for something totally new.
It was very stupid decision in my opinion 'cause that proposed other singer is very famous (unlike Kátya back then). Listen to that version here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=brMNni5pBgg

It's pretty good, but I want something more "Hungarian". This is just an American song more or less. The Hungarian language is really cool!

I see! Well she has a good voice indeed! My use of that clip though wasn't necessarily to promote her though, more to show examples of what type of style I would like for Hungary.

If she goes for something like that it could be really cool.

Hungarian ethno-inspired ballad! Now that would be amazing imo :) And she has the voice for it aswell!

That's what she said exactly in an interview "My biggest dream would be to represent Hungary at ESC." - that's shocking coming from a Hungarian artist I tell you! :D

Yes they quite are. Their first album spent 41 weeks in the charts, peaked at #1 and was certified as platinum. Both Bánat utca and Erdő, erdő were played by the radios. :) They'd be a good choice, though I don't know their views on ESC.

Kati Wolf - Szerelem, miért múlsz? (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6RxugDLwnjs)

Studio version sounds much better then her live singing (I think presentation was live singing? It wasn't particularly good).
I'm glad song is in Hungarian, but I heard they made English version..does it mean they'll sing in English in Dusseldorf? Hope not.
Song itself is OK and decent (imo), but a pop song should be much better and more modern nowdays, it's a bit out-dated.
To me it sounds like smth that Sweden would send...5 or 10 y ago.
Still, one of the better songs in this poor year...I'll give it 6 p.:D

Offcourse haha... what else? Eurovision? Anglovision? It's starting to look like some sort of bad parody.

Is English the only existing language in Europe? When I was in Hungary people in general couldn't barely communicate with me in English, most people seemed to prefer German as their foreign language of communication.

Soon we have only Poland and a couple of other countries insisting on sending their entries in native languages.

I want to have a rule that states that entries will have to be send in the language they were chosen, so if an entry was chosen in let's say Hungarian, it should stay that way for Eurovision. I think that'd be a fair version of the old language-rule.

Not bad at all. It makes the semi#1 even more interesting. Although, we already have Poland, Russia, Croatia, Malta and even possibly Armenia (although Armenia is its in own category, and they will qualify with whatever they send) with similar songs, so they better perform between ballads or at least different songs, so they won't cancel each other. For me this is somewhere in the upper middle, but definitely I would push Hungary in the final.

As I've said earlier I'm not a fond of uptempo songs this year because most of them (with few exceptions) carry a zero meaning to me.
As for this one. I hate night clubs, with passion :p so let's concentarte on her. Celine, Lara, Natasha - positive similarity for me. + I think of Hungary and Hungarian music when I listen to this song - another plus. Possible night club diva image for ESC - huge minus, I'm tired of this, we already have too much commercial ESC crap for teens so puuulease stay unique.
Strong voice and big vocal range -> huge plus for me so I'm wondering about her live perfromance. I give it 7pts for now (not a fond of cheerful songs this year, not in the mood for dancing and feeling happy without a reason).
After the 1st rehearsals I'll open the new poll so maybe I'll change my opinion.

I think this is only a phase. Soon enough, English will become so common that a song like Estonia's in 2009 will come along, sounded really mystical, and win the contest. And then it'll become more balanced again.

Well, I am full aware of and understand and accept that since change of language rule in 1999 it won't be like before.

But 2011 is just extreme and atleast prior the juries being brought back, we got atleast a somewhat balance, but in just two years it's like there didn't even exist any other languages in Europe than English.

Nah, I belive some languages have a disadvantage sounding not so good to some, while other languages are really beautiful to some, all depending one what language group you belong to originally.

And I don't like the idea of anyone having an advantage over another just because of your language.

I do belive in that you have the right of freely choosing what language to sing in.
I can however, on the other hand, totally agree on, that the language you win your NF with, or is announced with, is the language the song needs to be performed with at the ESC.

I don't believe in a rule like that, the only thing I would want is that a rule states that countries can't change the language of a chosen entry, and that juries should pay attention to things like language.

Other than that, I think it should be a free choice.

Don't get me wrong, I appreciate songs in their native language aswell, at least some, sound like they are really ment for it and are performed with more spirit since it may really MEAN something to the performers,
but what i'm proclaiming is the RIGHT to choose. I would really hate to go back to where you have to sing in your native language.

Those were the times when Finland always ended up last for some reason. (not saying I don't appreciate the finnish language, I think it's cool, but back then, I don't think many voters did for example)

No offense intended! "horrible" was probably too strong a word. Just to me I can't feel any emotion from songs in Scandinavian languages because they sound strange to me ecause I've never been around it. Doesn't mean I wouldnt like the song- just I'd probably prefer it in English. Yeah, I see that. There are positives to both sides, but I'd much rather see the culture of the nation than have the contest be neutral.

My point aswell, and I thought this was the point with Eurovision? Bringing the continent together? Representing countries? Sharing and learning? I must have misunderstood this contest brutally it seems.

From an esthetic point of view people will always prefer some languages over others, but I think it's interesting though to have diversity, and with an open mind you can find something good in most languages I think.

Definitely better in Hungarian. Other than that it's just a catchy song and I love up-tempo ones with this being one of the best of the edition - 10 points. ;)

Well, I'll say honestly right now the LAST thing I listen to when listening to a song are the lyrics. I listen to strength of the voice of the singer, its uniqueness, and then the music in the song. That's what is important to me, and that's what made me interested in Eurovision in the first place, because its rare to find a contest with actual artists singing full songs live and showcasing it to the rest of the world, no matter the language.

Ahhh, yes,,, very noble and fluffy, :) But it's still a prestigeus competition, and I think the performers or the artists like to win, sometimes, it's their careers on the line. :)

Personally I won't learn much about a culture by hearing a song in it's native language, I'd rather read up on it and preferably go visit if I get the chanse.
Again don't get me wrong, I'm all fine about singing in native languages, but I don't think it's what this contest is ALL about.

and as a edited sidenote,, with englsh I'll know what the song is about, and that's interesting to me, when I hear a song. :)

Not all but atleast some don't you think? I mean why representing countries? Why Europe? Why not have a European idol instead.

Anyways.. you guys can bring this discussion to the topic I started, we are just way off-topic now really.

ye, there are many issues one can discuss about that, like composers from one country writing songs for singers in another country, and even bringing singers compteting for a country they are not from :) But I'll bring that to your topic, if needed. :D

I think this Hungarian song is an absolute gem. In my top 3 with Bosnia and Slovenia. I think the 3-minute version with UK and Hungarian lyrics is a triumph. Would love to see this do really well as it not only deserves to but it's nice to see nations outside the big ESC super-powers doing well, and it's good for the competition. Not to mention the fact the big nations have all produced really poor contenders this year that are nowhere near the quality of this song.

This song appears to have gathered quite some momentum over the past few days. Does anyone know if there's a video of her performing this or something else live as her live vocals will dictate if this is a serious contender?

I could only find the Hungarian version http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KJbbE05KxwU&feature=related says she was sick at that time though, so I don't know how accurate picture you'll get.

She was sick there unfortunately so that performance is quite bad. :(

Here she is singing the song (Hungarian version) in concert:

This song is growing and growing and growing on me...:)
It's one of my favourites now.

(I just wished she sang the original hungarian chorus at least once or twice in the song - her "Szelerem" sounds so good and powerful :D)
