When I’s a little girl my grandma told me
That I could be just anything I wanted to
When I’s a little girl my grandma told me
Rhat I could be just anything I wanted to
She said that
Everything I work for
Everything I wish for
Everything I look for it is right in front of me
Everything I work for
Everything I wish for
Everything I look for it is right in front of me
And she said ah..

Haba haba, hujaza kibaba

When I’s a little girl my grandma told me
That is the little things in life that's gone make me happy
When I’s a little girl my grandma told me
That is the little things in life that's gone make me happy
She said that
Little by little
Fills up the measure
Don't ever give up
Keep on moving
Little by little
Fills up the measure
Don't ever give up
Keep on moving

Haba haba, hujaza kibaba

NRK now accepts submissions for MGP 2011, Submission Deadline is September 15. There is a slight change in the rules. At least 50% of the sonwriting team has to be norwegian which means it is open to all nations.

I think the the quality in MGP improved just a little bit, it would be the best national final along with Denmark. Hopefully they will have a lot of contemporary songs like last year and maybe this time they'll choose one of them rather than an old-style dated ballad.

National finals across Europe should ban Kempe from entering his songs!

haha agree but that will never happen since he like everyone other can send songs in this competition ;) But i hope norway will not send him again. Because i think norway should send someone from norway and not europe..

Oslo, Norway - Today, broadcaster NRK revealed the remaining songs set to take part in the Norwegian final or Melodi Grand Prix as it's known officially. The remaining songs will compete in Florø and Skien.

At a somewhat glamourous press event at the Hard Rock Café in Oslo, the remaining 12 artists and songs taking part in the 2011 Norwegian final were revealed, reinforcing an already exciting and eclectic plethora of acts previously announced by broadcaster NRK.

Melodi Grand Prix project leader Skjalg Solstad said "there's probably never been such a large breadth of music in Melodi Grand Prix as there is this year". These artists bring with them different styles of music from pop and country to rap.

In addition Eurovision veteran, Hanne Sørvaag is taking part with her song You're Like A Melody. Hanne is known for having written two songs that took part in the 2010 Eurovision Song Contest in Oslo. These were the Norwegian entry, My Heart Is Yours sung by Didrik Solli-Tangen and Georgia's Shine sung by Sopho Nizharadze. When asked about taking part in the Norwegian final, this time as an artist, Hanne said, "MGP is a perfect window to show off something new and I'm going to perform my song with energy, passion and happiness".

Another notable entrant is seasoned singer, Grethe Svensen who will perform Like Dreamers Do. The 45 year old has released seven albums since 1992 of which three have gone gold in the Norwegian charts. Grethe is relishing in the prospect of performing in the Norwegian final for the first time saying, "It gives me a wonderful opportunity to share my music with the people".

Semi Final 1 - Ørland (15th January)
Carina Dahl - Guns & Boys
Use Me - Daisy
Sichelle - Trenger Mer
Sie Gubba - Alt Du Vil Ha
Åste & Rikke - Not That Easy
Helene Bøksle - Vardlokk

Marika - Hungry For You (Gipsydance)

Semi Final 3 - Skien (29th January)
Grethe Svensen - Like Dreamers Do
Girl Happy - SOS
The BlackSheeps - Dance Tonight
Noora Noor - Gone With The Wind
Susperia - Nothing Remains
Stella Mwangi - Haba Haba
The Lucky Bullets - Fire Below

The top two placed songs from each semi-final will directly qualify for the final, taking place at Oslo Spektrum on the 12th of February. I'm qurious about Norway's entry this year. Alexander won in 2009 and Norway had pretty good entry last year too though Didrik didn't take high position but I liked that song very much. So I'm very excited about what kind of song will represent Norway this year. Maybe we will hear something totally different. :)

My ranking out of the 30 sec clips!

1. "Vardlokk" Helene Bøksle
2. "Daisy" Use Me
3. "Guns & Boys" Carina Dahl
4. "Trenger mer" Sichelle
5. "Not That Easy (Ah-Åh-Ah-Åh)" Åste & Rikke
6. "Alt Du Vil Ha" Sie Gubbe
7. "Jobbe litt mindre og tjene litt mer" Gatas Parlament

This can though change alot when it comes to the preformance, the semi is pretty weak, even if I like Helenes song quite much.

All of them sound good! Either Carina, or Use Me will stand out the most. Sie Gubbe sounds a lot like they stereotypical Scandinavian entries from the past, but it still has a good charm. I personally like Carina and Sichelle the most, but these are a good bunch of songs :) I can envision any one of these songs in the Eurovision Final stage, I want to see them at least

Wow hearing the full versions made the songs even worser...Helenes song is really boring all the way till the last 40 secs, which is way too late IMO to be called a good song.

No Norway, shape up for the 2nd semi!

I don't really care who qualifies from the first semi, the songs are not good imo. Hopefully there will be something better in the 2nd and 3rd semis.

Based on the Norwegian download chart though, these are the only songs in the top 100:

49. Åste & Rikke
63. Sichelle
65. Sie Gubba

My guess after seeing the preformancences:

Final: "Daisy" & "Vardlokk"

"Daisy" is the semis big surprise! What a wonderful voice the singer had! The only song that felt a little 2011 to be honest! :)

I want Helene for Norway so I'm pretty shocked she just managed second place in the semi :(

Feels like the "Norwegian Eurovision wonder" (2005-2006, 2008-2009) will be over :(

I hope my dear neighbors get their senses back and vote Helene in the final though!

I can't believe the other got through, not my cup at all. I wanted Sichelle to qualify, but the most important is that Helene is in the final though but it doesn't look too promising though considering her 2nd place here.

These are the standings on itunes today:

12. Not That Easy (Ah-Åh Ah-Åh) - Åste & Rikke
25. Vardlokk - Helen Bøksle
42. Alt du vil ha - Sie Gubba
55. Daisy - Use Me
69. Trenger mer - Sichelle
86. Jobbe litt mindre og tjene litt mer - Gatas Parlament
194. Guns and boys - Carina Dahl

This could very well be the result from last night considering the same 4 songs that proceeded are in the same positions they finished in. If this is anything to go by it seems that Sichelle will be eligible for the second chance wildcard.

PeterLPZ
16th January 2011, 20:43
I like both songs. The quality of the singers are really good. The song "Not that easy" has a good rythm and Helenas song has the typical norwegian style. In comparison to the finish or icelandic songs which have been voted for the final I think these two songs are better.

Hanne - "please don't be so nervous, please don't be nervous" and here she goes ... xdoh :( I liked the studio version, but backing singers sounded better. Isabella is my #1, Hanne is my #2 so far.

Mimi Blix - not bad. She should move faster but it can be solved. I dislike the song though.

Hanne has by far the best song out of the four finalists so far. It is the only song that feels a little modern.
It would have been perfect if it wasn't for the awful dress and that she doesn't move at all when having the guitar.

I feel that Norway is a little lost at the moment..better find a way out of this for the last semi...

It's all about Vardlokk, but i've got a feeling Norway will pick something lame and generic like last year.

Norwegian Eurovision wonder didn't last long (2005-2006, 2008-2009).. now it's back to generic business as always been.

Itunes update:

#4 Depend On Me - Babel Fish
#10 You're Like A Melody - Hanne Sørvaag
#31 Allergic - Mimi Blix
#50 Sand - Isabella Leroy
#63 Oh Oh (Puppy Love) - Endre
#103 I'll Be Yours - Pernille & Marius
#115 Hungry For You - Marika Lejon

These are also still around from last weeks semi:
#59 Not That Easy - Åste & Rikke
#166 Daisy - Use Me
#176 Vardlokk - Helene Bøksle

I guess Isabella will be eligible for a second chance wildcard from this semi.

From the third semi, the only ones that I might like are Girl Happy, Noora Noor, and Grethe Svenson. The rest are just :?. This is also, imo, the weakest of all three semis in Norway. I think in the end Babel Fish and Aste and Rikke should battle for victory.

There is (as usual) a lot of crap, but Babel fish does have a good song.
I also suspect that Stella Mwangi will go on to the finals in the last semi final this saturday.

Girl happy have what looks like a very interesting song. My favourite until now.
And I don't get the love for Stella Mwangi.

The first semi was terrible, the second had Mimi Blix, i didn't like the song but I loved how she performed it.
Bad year until now.

evilperson
25th January 2011, 20:58
I also like the performance of Mimi Blix, the song is pretty meh though. Hanne Sorvaag's performance was dissapointing so she wont win hopefully. I don't think any of the third semi songs really stand out but I haven't heard the full versions yet. I don't think Helene Boksle stands a chance either. Pretty much we'll have an idea of what will go through from Friday's itunes chart.

Usually I am not too fond at all when nordic countries trying to go with tunes that aren't even close to the nordic sound..but I must admit that Stella Mwangis clip really sound promising! She and Susperia sounds the strongest, but to be honest...I wonder if Norway even will pass the semi in Eurovision with this bad quality on the songs. :(

Stella is the winner, even if she has big vocal problems during the verses. It is so happy and joyful and Stella feels really warm and geniune on stage. Also since MGP has been extremly weak this year, I think that a different song takes the win! :)

Haba Haba! This is probably my clear favourite of the ESC season so far, and I found the performance was actually quite nice and charming. She seemed to be having fun up there (from the video I watched at least, idk if it was the reprise or live version) :D I haven't watched much ESC this season, but this is great :D. It's fresh, and makes me feel real warm and nice inside  I can easily see this song winning even though I haven't heard the other songs yet. It kind of gives me the same feelings as when I heard Salem's song last year :D The crowd seemed to REALLY enjoy the performance, too.

The best two are Habba Habba and Vardlokk. From the charts I see it can be Habba Habba, but who knows - maybe Norwegian people would listen to their folk soul instead of choosing funny and colourful song. We'll see. I love these African sounds and I gotta say "Haba-Haba" has a very catchy chorus. This should appeal to almost everyone, but now the question is how well can she deliver it. She doesn't sing well and thats one of the problems. The other one is that the instrumental sounds need to be sharper and a bit more intense. Other than that, great choice!! :D So far this is the best song chosen I believe. :) Haba-Haba!!! Go you African girl!! Do well! :D

Glad to see she won, she was my favorite although I liked the Black Sheeps as well..cheerful tune, although a bit too repetitive and not the best voice, but good energy. 8pts

Oh, what a surprise. I like this song. It´s catchy and Stella is so symphatic. It´s not a winner song for me, but it could reach the TOP10 at the end. In my opinion a good choice, Norway.

a nice song though I don't like maybe because I also don't like Waka waka. So,we have the first song who remembers artists' relatives advises, like last year Armenia "Many many year ago/When I was a little child/Mama told you should know/Our world is cruel and wild" and Latvia "I've asked my uncle Joe/But he can't speak" etc.She is not a bad singer, only her vocals sound bad singing this song because it's on a lower tone.A little bit predictable and repetitive but it's kinda cool.It will do well.

Modern etno-pop. Too bad about the live vocals.

I could see this raking in the televotes that France raked in last year if they put on a much better and more energetic stage show. Maybe rip off "Waka Waka (This Time For Africa)" straight off. Because, really, the general audience will be comparing this song to "Waka Waka".

1 point.

I don't like it at all. For me it lacks everything but y'know...it doesn't surprise me that it's so overhyped in here.

Sadly, this was even one of the strongest songs in the Norwegian final so I wouldn't even be able to point my fingers at a better winner.

Vardlock was the only outstanding song and should've won by a landslide.

I'm a bit surprised people compare this song to Waka waka... the only thing in common is the African influences and two African language words (Swahili both? I don't speak any of those languages so I don't know). The melodies are nothing alike...

Anyways. This is a good song, but Mwangi definitely sounds better in a studio than live... and this song is a bad representative of the Norwegian culture... I was rooting for the Blacksheeps so I'm a bit disappointed... I don't think Norway will be having any troubles getting to the final though, this is a cheerful and catching song... it's gonna make all of Europe start dancing and probably voting alot ;)

Waka waka?
There r some cheerful moments in the song, but overall it's not smth special, imo. I don't think it's so original any longer to have semi-naked black girl singing some exotic words and jumping around, to force some atmosphere.
And I think she's not that attractive and good looking that ppl would get crazy about her.

Good job, Norway. I was hoping Stella would win and she did. This song is so optimistic and cheerful and I always smile when I watch the performance.

I love the song but i'm a little sad the girl cannont sing better than that.

She has a lot of energy but her singing abilities are not that great.

I think the juries will destroyed her because of that, just like they did with France last year and she may miss top 10

The juries should get a life though and understand that Eurovision is NOT a copy of Idol. First and foremost it's a search for the best songs.

But sadly you might be right about the juries.

Gee, I guess that's why they awarded Lena the win last year. Because she's such a phenomenal singer. I also guess that's why they gave Turkey 5th or whatever the year before that, because Hadise is such a stellar live vocalist.

Your vendetta against the juries is quite irrational and not really based on facts. The juries give high marks (and even victories) to artists whose live vocals are lackluster all the time. Vocal ability still plays a role in how they award their points, however. You can't enter Eurovision with horrible vocals and win. But you can enter with so-so vocals and still win. And the juries vote for the song before the vocalists all the time. Lena in 2010, Chanee and N'Evergreen in 2010, Hadise in 2009.

Good that you could come up with a couple of examples. I don't want to go way too off-topic, so I will not come up with all the contrary examples right now.

When I talk about juries, I judge their whole voting pattern though. The diaspora countries though are ironically getting helped by the juries aswell, dunno why.

I didn't say that the juries always vote for the best voices though, but they tend to often overlook songs in favor for voices.

The fact that they don't always vote for the songs you like doesn't mean they're overlooking "good" songs in favour of vocal ability. Your taste might just not coincidence with those of the juries or even the European music industry at large.

I, for one, agree largely with the juries both years.

Ehm?

No that's not the fact

Ironic though; because you agree with them, it's all ok then and it's a reflection of whatever you're trying to point out? lol

As for the European music industry: I have a big interest for music and was always a chart nerd. I follow trends throughout Europe, and that is why I know the biggest name in local markets that most people outside never heard of. Nice try though.

No. I'm saying that taste is subjective.

Who cares about big names in local markets? The juries are supposed to vote forth songs with international appeal. That's their job. They're not supposed to vote only for what works in, say, Albania. Sure, local marketability is a part of it, but their ultimate job is to vote forth entries with international appeal.

Also, Eurovision and the juries have never been about and never will be about voting forth the entries with the biggest chart topping potential. Because idiotic entries top the charts all the time. The professional juries are supposed to vote forth entries with the best produced songs, with the best lyrics, with the best melody and then with the best vocals as one of the minor concerns (seriously, Lena won last year).

I'm sick and tired of hearing people (or maybe it's just hearing you saying it time and again) that Eurovision should be about voting for the biggest chart toppers to win.

There's a huge contradiction in your reasoning:

On one hand you say juries should vote for songs with international appeal (although I don't agree that's their main job though), on the other hand you say they should not vote for "hits"...

See the contradiction??

Anyways. Back to topic.

Sounds much better in studio version... unfortunatly Stella has much pitch problems in her live performance. However, if she can give a strong and more pitch correctly performance in Germany and the stage performance will be great then all bets are off. :)

The song by itself is already catchy, add her lively performance, it equals a good song. IMO, she doesn't need a great voice to sing well this song since this is sort of like a dancy song, and I think that this sort of song is more centered on the whole performance rather than the quality of her voice. (I know that this is the Eurovision Song Contest, but still, we cannot discredit the importance of the whole performance package in an entry). Also, her voice gives the song the air that it can be sang by everyone watching the show, giving it a grass roots appeal. The lyrics is fair, but it does get repetitive. I still like it though, it makes me want to dance and sing along while she sings it :)

What contradiction? Because I certainly never said that the jury "shouldn't vote" for hits.

What I said is that the jury's job isn't to simply vote for the songs with the greatest hit potential (which seems to be what you're advocating, what with wanting the contest to be all about which songs can become the greatest hits internationally). It consists of many things, not just that.

There's a huge difference in what I said and what you think I said.

If Norway is hoping for a top 10, they need to get this girl some voice lessons, as that may help before Eurovision. The melodic tones are very very dull and weak

I for one disliked (hated) "My heart is yours" very much and I think I've said that way too many times.  Anyway, this year Norway has a great song. And I'm glad that you are back on track, just like in 2009, 2008, 2007 (I happened to like "Ven a bailar conmigo"), 2006 and 2005. :)

I agree. Totally. I don`t know what happened in the final, we had others with no problem with their singing skills. Yeah, she needs some voice lessons, and some breathing lessons, and then hopefully we can make it through the semi. Well, well, nothing we can do about it now ;)
