I looked into your eyes, and when I saw your smile
I knew right from the start: life is good for a while
Romance comes and goes but a love like ours is here to stay
Each lovely night and sunny day

I love everything about you, I couldn’t do without you
Whenever you’re near me all my days are on the bright side
But when I’m not around you I have to find the way to
Be with you each night and every day

I love everything about you, I couldn’t do without you
Whenever you’re near me all my days are on the bright side
But when I’m not around you I have to find the way to
Be with you each night and every day

I love everything you do
I couldn’t do without you, without you baby
Oh no no no no, oh no no eh…

Oh I couldn’t do without you
I have to find the way to be with you, no no

What would she sing?

An old fashioned song from the 50's/ 60's???

Margerita86
11th June 2010, 01:02
With the right song she could at least qualify.

I hope it will be more modern than 50.60's, but even one of those era's could be great if done really well.

It's about time. We saw over the past few years that internal selections really didn't do anything for the country's success.

1st September 2010, 18:39
The Swiss national final will be on Dec 11th.
According to the broadcaster they had to change the format due to an increase in popularity in Switzerland (that's always a good thing) Starting Oct 1st artists can submit their entries, those songs will be uploaded to sf.tv in early november and internet voters and a jury will choose the qualifiers for the national final. And then on th 11th of December they will all represent their songs and a winner will be chosen.

This year, the Swiss broadcaster, SRG SSR idée suisse, has announced many changes in their selection process. For the first time, it'll feature a pre-selection held on the internet.

"There is a clear upward trend in viewing numbers. On average, just under half a million people in Switzerland watch the contest, corresponding to an audience share of around 30%. With this in mind, Schweizer Fernsehen has revamped the process for selecting Switzerland's entry for the 2011 Eurovision Song Contest," the broadcaster said in a statement.

In the first round, all performers who would like to take part, will present their new and specially-written songs on a special website. The entry period runs from the 1st of October to the 30th of October.

From the beginning of November, users can then vote for their favourite songs. In parallel, the entries will also be rated by an expert jury, whose opinion carries a weighting of 50% in selecting the shortlist.

The winners of the preliminary round will present their songs in the Big Decider Show, a major production that will go out live from Kreuzlingen on the 11th of December.

Viewers will decide via televoting on the ultimate winner, who will go on to represent Switzerland at the 2011 Eurovision Song Contest.

Switzerland has officially kicked off the ESC season. Aritists interested can now submit their songs.

10 songs will go on to the televised national final to be held on December 11th (wow, that's early).

This is really exciting news cause Switzerland haven't had a NF since 2004 (although they really screwed up big time that year) so I'm eager to find out how this is going to work out.

The submission deadline is October 30th. In early noember the online voting will be opened and people will be able to vote for their favorite songs and along with an expert panel a top 10 will be chosen.

American Idol contestant for Switzerland?
http://eurovisiontimes.wordpress.com/2010/10/14/sarah-burgess-for-switzerland/

Can she bring Switzerland out of the Eurovision vale of tears? 20 Minuten Online is pretty sure she can! according to the website, the former American idol contestant (Season 6) from Ohio will soon enter the open online competition of Swiss television. “A sweet, sexy look, hot pop song (“Just me”) and a good voice” have 20 Minuten Online convinced that she can change track for Switzerland (last in the semifinal this year). In september 2009 she had toured 60 Swiss schools as part of the project “coole Schule” (cool school). Since her American Idol experience Burgess has worked with various record label, but her big breakthrough hasn’t happened yet. Her first single “Dangerouz” only reached position 40 on the US Hot100. The online voting, where Burgess will ,among others, have to compete against Abdul Damja, will start in november. It will determine the acts going on to compete in the televised national final December 11.

Bibi Vaplan's "Ün Salüd" is very much my favourite:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ofD-fTFRDXc

Beautiful dreamy-melancholic singer-songwriter composition. Very contemporary. And very Swiss to boot! It's sung in Rhaeto-Romanic, Switzerland's ancient fourth language.

Couldn't think of a better musical ambassador for Switzerland. And it'd also be the sort of entry that'd lend the ESC more musical credibility. If you consider last year's German, Turkish and Belgian entries, I think one can make out a real hunger for contemporary adult popular music at the ESC, whereas more old-fashioned/trashy music is taking a (well-deserved) hit, if you ask me.

You should have a button on the down-right corner of the post which says delete... It disappears after someone's posted a new post but whatever... It's not really my cup of tea but the language is so damn beautiful. It'd be amazing if we have a 2nd one in this gorgeous language (the only entry so far sung in it was Viver Senza Tei sung by Furbaz in 1989 when the ESC was held in Lausanne, Switzerland, after Céline Dion won the previous year).

LOL! Everyone was so crazy about the Swiss selection this year and at the end it turns out that all the participating songs are so dull and below average. Instead of focusing on heavy promotion, the Swiss broadcaster(s) should stick to the mission of finding a decent representant for this country...

I'm very disappointed about this year's Swiss selection.

Matt
30th November 2010, 00:01
Apparently it is going to be 100% televoting, however a jury of 5 members will judge every performance so it's quite "idol" like.

The 5 jurors are:

- Pepe Lienhard
Represented Switzerland in 1977 with "Swiss Lady" placing 6th

- Nik Hartmann
TV and radio host

- Francine Jordi
Represented Switzerland in 2002 with "Dans la jardin de mon ame" placing 22nd.

- Baschi
Singer who kicked off his career participating in "Music Star" an Idol like show where he ended up in th place. He is known in Germany cause of his hit single "Unsterblich".

- Peter Reber
Musician and composer associated with several prior swiss entries (1971, 1976, 1979 & 1981)

Even though Sarah sings that she's not Lily - she IS! (still she should grow up a lil' and find gr8 songwriters)
But even that will appeal to teenage audience, mostly.

Another decent participant is The Glue. Mew's acapella children  It sounds like something which rather suits Latvia. It needs a good weird show.

I don't really like any of them but The Glue would be my choice :)

I did listen to the songs after all... I do believe this is a pretty nice NF, as I pretty much like all songs but, unfortunately, most of them are rather bland and forgettable, they sound too similar and are predominantrly ballads/mid-tempo ones. I guess these 4 stand out a bit more to me:

11. Sarah Burgess - Just Me
9. CH - Gib Nid Uf
1. Polly Duster - Up To You
8. Scilla - Barbie Doll

Would love any of these for the language, too:

6. Aliose - Sur Les Pavés
7. Dominique Borriello - Il Ritmo Dentro Di Noi
10. Ilira and the Colors - Home

I do believe it'd be best to have a song in German, as it is the one of the 3 official languages taking part in the NF that has been used the least recent (we had Italian in 2008 and French in 2010). Of course, the combination of Albanian and Swiss German is cool. I'll probably be happy with anything winning apart from:

12. The Glue - Come What May

Gotta see the live performances, too, though.

AlekS
11th December 2010, 21:44
Andrina needs better vocals for this song or do not try to make a note sound longer because it sounds too shouty instead.

Bernarda Brunovic - best live vocals so far, worst dress, I like the lyrics, composer should be slapped :*)

Anna Rossinelli - I have the 2nd association with Lena tonight. Visually - black dress, standing at 1 place, movements. Good vocals though :D This particular song should be faster, otherwise it's boring. Too slow for her. Every song becomes better, wondering what's next :)

Aliose - and another girl in a black dress and black tights with simple movements  Good song, not the best vocals. It was visible that she was afraid and she worried a lot.

DominikS
11th December 2010, 22:04
'Sur les paves' was nice, good vocals, but it lacked memorability. It just needs that extra something to make it more special.

Mickey
11th December 2010, 22:06
I enjoyed Aliose's song. Nicely understated. Whether understated is suitable for ESC is another matter. I would like it more if they made just a little more of the duet element in it with the guy on guitar.

Ilira and the Colors - I'm not a sure if it did well on Eurovision but I like them. This is my second fave. I think that the song fits them very well.

Sarah Burgess - comparing to others, I didn't like her. It sounded too teenage as a studio version but she took it to biggest heights. Vocally she wasn't good. The best show, too much of everything but I don't mind. Overall - not the best but not the worst, imo.

Even if I've put her just in 7th, I still believe it was a very good choice and yeah, ger vocal performance was superb, a nice song, and I hope they find a way to make it a bit more interesting on stage, too. ;) For once, Switzeland isn't sending something ridiculous. :D

Congratulations Anna!!!!!! Fantastic entry! The best one of 2011 so far, imo

Excellent choice for Switzerland! xcheer If all songs are of this quality this will be a very interesting eurovision edition indeed!

True. This will be one of Switzerland's better entries. I don't see it getting to the final, though.

@Switzerland - If you like American Idol so much, make a Switzerland Idol show...

Tonight's show was horrible. This is the Eurovision Song Contest! Not "Eurovision Idol"!

NinjaLove

at least in her country :)
Also the Eurovision cannot without Lys Assia, she is always there at the parties.

I like Anna's song. I don't know whether she'll qualify, but the song is pure and something completely different.

CH should have won.

Had enough of Anglo stuff already. Eurovision is soon just another American Idol rip-off.

3 points!

Ok, for me this years eurovision season isn't off to a good start since I find this years Swiss entry to be a bit dull. Neither the song nor the performance has anything that stands out at this point in time.

The Good news is that like everybody else they still have plenty of time to make changes to it

How can Eurovision be an American Idol rip off when Eurovision is a song contest and American Idol is a talent competition? There is a free language rule in Eurovision and this selection had a variety of languages that couldve been picked and this song just happened to be in English.

I do agree with bottom 2, at least... But Scilla, Andrina, Polly Duster, Sara Burgess... Only CH finished in a decent position. Anyway, the places after 1st don't matter, as we have a 10% margin between 1st and 2nd...

Bernarda Brunovic 2nd

it was a good NF to watch in my opinion, and I think it was a good result. With this song, I think the presentation on the night will make it or break it - and hopefully Switzerland will present it well! :D

Because it seems more and more that the only entries that get attention (from juries atleast) are the ones that is totally Anglo compromised or with some "big singer", and Eurovision is not about looking for the best voice like in some American Idol, but the best SONG and also it's about presenting Europe as a whole and not just the Anglo culture and languages.

I must say that I wanted Sarah to win :)
...but only because it was the only song I listened from this selection
A very good choice from Switzerland,a very good start for Eurovision 2011 :)
It remembers me of Lena's Bee,and I love Bee ,so I love this:)
Now I can't stop listening the song..fresh,cool singer,I hope it gets to the final :)A top 10 would be nice too ;)

Congratulations Switzerland!
I think that they chosed the best (and the right) song which has a really good chance to qualify. I just hope that the presentation will be good.
I also liked CH and their song Gib nid uf, Ilira and The Colors – Home and Sarah Burgess - Just me, but the singing of the last one was really awful.

So... the season is opened! Does anyone know when (and where) is the next national final?

94ayd
12th December 2010, 16:19
The next final of a national final is on Chirstmas Day (25th December) and then we'll find out the Albanian representative for next year. ;) You should check the ESC Calender which you can find at the top of the ESC 2011 - Song, Artist, NF Discussions part of the forum.

No problem! :D Happy to see Slovenes as they are rare. ;) Also, you send one of the best entries to ESC. Too bad they're always underrated. :( I can see why you like this. Slovenia's also a central European country, so tastes are probably similar to the Swiss people's. :)

Back to the topic..
Does anyone know from which part of Switzerland is Anna? From Italian-speaking, right?

94ayd
12th December 2010, 17:14
Well, wikipedia says she was born in Basel, and that's clearly a German-speaking city, though her name suggest Italian roots, yes.

PS I actually think a lot of people like the Slovene entries but don't vote for them because you're a small country or something... :( Performance could ruin the songs a bit, too... However, it should be a song contest.

And what makes you think that the juries don't think that those are the best songs? Also, the juries didn't pick anything in this NF, it was 100% televoting so I guess the public is to blame for their love of English language songs and supposed huge talent. :? Every country can enter a song in whatever language they want, the contest is actually meant to find the best song amongst the entrants. Presenting the respective country's culture and language is just an added opportunity, not a requirement.

Oh, I really thought she's from Italian-speaking part, because of her name and her looks.

PS Yeah, we have problems with performances on Eurovision. I'm not talking about singing - that's usually OK. The problem is that we don't know how to make an interesting performance on stage. We don't know how to make our song stand out. The only time we presented our song well on stage was 2007 with Alenka Gotar (and her light 8-)) and in 2001 with Nuša Derenda.

94ayd

It's good. It's not great though. Something I'd really enjoy listening to at a coffee shop having my morning cappuccino. Cute melody but I hope they'll get rid of some if those annoying "nananana" as it just seems kinda annoying to me. But overall a solid effort from Switzerland.

The positive thing about this song is that can be improved
Most people get bored when she sings Na na na na.So in that part the melody can be played by a saxophone or piano.Appart from that, they can be more instruments and persons on the stage, and also the girl can be better on her movements.
Hope they work on it.;)

I think you’ve described it pretty well.
It’s a pleasant song, nice background music, but there’s nothing particularly ‘striking’ about it. It’s rather beige. I’m giving it 5 points. If they revamped it a little, with a few less 'nananas,' I'd consider giving it an extra point. :P

This could be one of the best swiss entries in a long long time! :) A really good summer-entry with touch of Colby Caillat and Jason Mraz. Still needs some work to make it work better in ESC I believe, but a really good solid ground to build on! Well done Swiss! :)

I find this a good start of the 2011-season.

Certainly much better than the Suisse song in 2010.
But I also think it needs something more for in the semis in Dusseldorf
