This is an almost impossible task. I know that Lane Moje IS my all time number one. But after that there are about 10-12 entries (mostly from the earlier decades and also some from the last 15 years) that are fighting for the last 4 spots in my top 5.

I have hundreds of Eurovision favorites, but these five keep being the absolute top ones. I've heard all songs (1956-2015) multiple times, and I've watched all shows in their entirety between 1956-1983 and 1988-2015. :)

This task is simply too daunting. I'd either overrate recent songs out of inundation or overrate classics out of personal guilt. Someday I'll force myself to make one for this thread, but be warned that it'll be a hopelessly dull and cliche list or too recently-skewed.

Started watching in 2007; I've had a few looks over at some of the previous years but just didn't find much that suited my tastes, especially pre-2000. Still, here's my top 5 (which could be completely different by tomorrow):

1. ::rs 2007 - Molitva
2. ::az 2009 - Always
3. ::al 2012 - Suus
4. ::es 2010 - Algo Pequenito
5. ::am 2014 - Not Alone

Pretty standard, I think, apart from ::es 2010, though there are a lot of less common ones that come pretty close (::mk 2010, ::ba 2011, ::md 2010 being a few examples).

Okay I couldn't do this without setting some ground rules so here they are:
1. No winners. Or winners would be 3 or 4 of them, and that would feel kind of crap. "Rise Like a Phoenix" has had a pretty profound impact on my life, ABBA are one of my favorite bands ever, "Wild Dances" is a gorgeous and honest number, and "Fångad av en stormvind" slays, but I don't want them taking spots from my favorites that don't get a ton of love from other corners.
2. No "Nel Blu Dipinto Di Blu." Similar reasons.

1. ::rs 2011 (this would still be #1 if there were winners)
2. ::mk 2012
3. ::de 1956 (So geht das jede Nacht)
4. ::is 1987

This was pretty hard and painful to put together. My top 2 were very clear but ridiculously close. "Suus" is an extraordinary piece of music that helped me out at a dark time. Never will we experience a piece of music on the Eurovision stage again that compares to how special it was. Valentina Monetta is deep within my heart. She brought me three years of happiness. "Maybe" reaching the final was the greatest moment in Eurovision history for me. I still get a pain in my chest when I watch the semi final performance. My brain tells me "Suus", my heart tells me "Maybe". On this occasion I will go with my brain for once.

Rather biased towards newer entries I guess.

1. Turkey 2004 Athena - For Real

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kva951_ov0s
A perfect ESC entry in my opinion. It is a strong ska song that does not fall into the ESC cliches, however it still manages to have this ethnic sound that many good ESC songs have.

2. Sweden 2000 Roger Pontare - When Spirits Are Calling My Name

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fELp2fPI8wI
The joik part is perhaps the best part of any ESC song ever and the song manages to be really dramatic. It will also get bonus points for the lyrics, but loses some for cultural appropriation.

3. Andorra 2007 Anonymous - Salvem el món

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pCQoUWhGa0E
The only pop punk ESC song ever. Nuff said.

4. Finland 2006 Lordi - Hard Rock Hallelujah

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gAh9NRGNhUU
A strong metal song with an awesome staging. They have better songs that the one they sent to ESC though.

5. Montenegro 2013 Who See - Igranka

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FR9rtB2ilZU
Surprisingly modern song for ESC that has a killer chorus and simply stands out in the middle of the road pop blandness of ESC

There are many other very good songs, but not doing the cop out by having a honorable list.

Indeed! The comment was not really directed to the Sami part of the staging. It is more about the fact that what wears doesn't really appear to be a Sami outfit (like for example the one that the person who does the joiking wears). It is claimed to be prairie indian (not a big enough expert to judge that myself). And there were also the issue about the backing dancers (as there is no information in English about who they are, it is kinda hard to determinate if their outfits were appropriate or not, but the one looking to be some type of native american raises questions at least)

I'm pretty sure the Inuit and the Native American are precisely that. There are a few Native Americans living in Sweden, especially those who work at the Western theme park High Chapparal.

Good if that is the case. Any idea about the costume of Pontare? The only info I can find about it comes from: https://books.google.ee/books?id=aVJyN5ZAHeUC&pg=PA358&lpg=PA358&dq=roger+pontare+cultural+appropriation&source=bl&ots=bIDAIJWmcr&sig=9IfllJxoPaGt4PsuJFA42oYlUbg&hl=en&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwi97O_4lOHKAhUCjywKHWcYDGoQ6AEIODAF#v=on epage&q=roger%20pontare&f=false

To be honest, I don't think Pontare's costume is "prairie Indian", or specifically Native American. It doesn't look like anything I've ever seen from the various Indian Nations that I've come across online. I think it's supposed to be indigenous ambiguous and stylized. The quote you sourced seems to me like the author just called it "prairie Indian" for lack of a better word.
