According to statistics Bosnia & Herzegovina gave its second most points in their Eurovision history to Turkey, in fact 127 points in total. The Top 5:
1 Croatia - 133 points
2 Turkey - 127 points
3 FYC Macedonia - 96 points
4 Slovenia - 93 points
5 Serbia - 80 points

Having said that, Turkey also ranks on the 2nd place when it comes to "Which nations actually gave Bosnia & Herzegovina in the sum the most points"
1 Croatia - 166 points
2 Turkey - 163 points
3 Slovenia - 134 points
4 Sweden - 102 points
5 FYC Macedonia - 99 points

Of course, that still doesn't explain anything, I know. :D

What's the link between Bosnia and Turkey though? I'm curious.

They seem to embrace their Turkish past unlike other former Ottoman subjects. There's also a significant amount of Bosnian immigrants in Turkey. Turkey and Bosnia tend to show some sort of solidarity against other Balkanites, along with Macedonia as well.

It's a fact that two nations are historically close and everything but I highly doubt that the reason for Bosnian absence lies in the fact that Turkey haven't been competing lately. Anyway, please return Bosnia. xpray

Sorry to say this but Turkey is huge factor of instability in Balkan region. Turkey support only muslim population in Bosnia and Herzegovina, but don't forget that majority there are christians. Thanks to Erdogan and his money many ethnic Bosniak towns and cities have Middle Eastern flawour today with zillion mosques (many foreiginers think they are somewhere in Central Anadolia when they see it for the first time). And Bosnian Central Television BHRT is in reality public service only for Bosniak muslim people, and their biggest sponsor is... well ques Turkey and Turkish Public Broadcatser.

First of all christians are not majoriti in Bosnia & Herzegovina. According to preliminar results of 2013 census, out of 3.7 million people in Bosnia & Herzegovina, 48.4% are Bosniak (muslims), 32.7% Serbs (orthodoxs) and 14,6% are Croats /catholics), 5% Jews, Roma etc.

Second, before you say anything, educate yourself.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tourism_in_Bosnia_and_Herzegovina
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sarajevo
Most of Bosnian (and Herzegovian cities) are the mix between Orient, Austro-Ungarian and modern arhitecture. Even if the look a like Middle East, its obvious that foreigners like it, because the number of tourists is increasing month after month. The main problem for you is obviously that cities Bosniak majority look a like Middle East and Turkey. It is not problem that in cities with Serb or Croat majority you'll never find any national flag (only flags of Serbia, Croatia and their imaginary states), because they don't recognize B&H as the own state.

http://www.hercegbosna.ba/Slike/Panorama_Sarajeva.jpg

The main reason because BHRT decided not to participate in Eurovision is money, not because Turkey decided not to participate. And when you look at the TV content that BHRT offers, it is way more public service for Serbs and Croats (specially during holiday season, read Eid and Christmas). Serbs have they own TV Channel, RTRS, while FTV is divided between Bosniaks and Croats. And I have read somewhere that RTRS did not pay any money to BHRT for 10 years, and a lot people does not pay any TV tax, that cost only 3,25 euros (7 KM).

Have you ever spent some time in towns and cities in Bosnia?? They are mix of Ottoman, Austro-Hungarian and Communist architecture.

BHRT is nothing else but a balance between main groups in Bosnia.

Some private TV stations might have stronger connections with Turkish TV stations, but that is not the case with with BHRT.

ag89
9th June 2015, 00:48
They only reason why Bosnia hasn't participated in ESC since 2013 is MONEY (lack of it). That story about solidarity with Turkey is nonsense.

It's just coincidence both countries are out. Turkey obviously made political decision to withdraw which is not the case with Bosnia.

BGN
10th June 2015, 00:13
The only connection between the withdrawals of BHRT and TRT is pretty much indirect - in case big country like Turkey pulls out, all others should pay higher fee which obviously is not possible for some broadcasters and the Bosnian is one of them. If Turkey returns, there is a better chance to see countries like Bosnia back.

Interview @ RadioSarajevo for Dejan Kukric (Former Head of Delegation)

Essencial words

About partecipation:
BHRT has sent preliminary application for participation in ESC 2016 in Stockholm. According to the rules, and October 10, the application may be withdrawn, as was the case the last three years since, unfortunately, we do not participate in Eurovision. I do not know what will be the outcome of this year. Personally, as someone who has for years, with great enthusiasm and success, led the project, I'd like to see again the representatives of Bosnia and Herzegovina on eurovision stage

About pick:
I not know. I have not in any way involved in the possible thinking on this topic and possible project for 2016.

I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that overall the EBU considers Greek participation more desirable then Bosnian. Greece is more visible on the world stage then B&H is, even if its not all positive news, so they want them in. It's more prestigious (its the only word I can think of) to the contest if Greece is in while B&H being in doesn't make a difference. So they bend over for Greece while ignoring B&H.

Really? Is that why the EBU gave B&H an extra month for them to find a sponsor and lowered their fees ?(granted they probably lowered Greece's fees)
I think the reason why Greece is managing and not B&H is simply because ERT has more money than BHRT.

I'm pretty sure they gave an extra month extension to all the countries who were on the bubble. Bulgaria I believe was given the same. Didn't their broadcaster pretty much tease it to fans and give false hope almost every week for a period of time the past two years?

It just feels like while other countries at least have some type of red line Greece never does. That's probably untrue but it does feel like it. But like GRE said high ratings in Greece unlike in the other countries probably justifies it so I can't really blame the EBU even if as a fan of B&H entries it seems unfair xshrug

I don't think Greece has a lower fee than it should though, and if it does the same happens with other countries whose broadcasters have financial problems. EBU has given those same broadcasters an extra month to decide (B&H, Bulgaria like you said, Croatia, etc) and if they allow that for them all there's no reason to think they treat certian broadcasters differently

As for Ana, its cool to see her on the esc stage, but I´m not quite sure what role is she exactly going to have here.

I just hope that the song is not going to be something trashy and that they didn´t just brought her along to cover it up with her solo or something.

When Croatia couldn't notice Ana's potential I'm glad someone else did it. Ksenija Urlicic (HOD with best Croatian results - 90s) long time ago was telling she has necessary energy for esc stage. She and 2CELLOS.

It will be a serious song so no pink t-shirts and stuff like 2004.

Ana Rucner said:

"Dat ću sve od sebe da zajedno s Deenom i Dalal dostojno predstavim BIH. Uvijek volim kvalitetne projekte, a ovo je jedan od njih", kaže Ana te nam dodaje: "Drago mi je što je Deen odabrao Dalal i mene u svojem projektu. Oni će svojim sjajnim vokalima, a ja svojim violončelom energijom i emocijom, učiniti pjesmu posebnom i drugačijom što je jako važno za Eurosong".

Translation:

"I will give my best that together with Deen and Dalal represent Bosnia & Herzegovina with dignity on eurovision. I always love quality projects and this is one of them", says Ana and also adds: "I'm glad that Deen has chosen Dalal and me in his project. They will use their great vocals, and me my violoncello, energy and emotion to make song to be special and different which is very important for Eurosong."

Interesting article if you are familiar with Bosnian/Croatian/Serbian:

http://www.klix.ba/magazin/muzika/bhrt-odlazak-na-eurosong-gradjane-bih-nece-kostati-niti-jednog-feninga/151204063

In a nutshell: as every time when Bosnia takes part in ESC, many people wonder how much tax payers (so that's us, the citizens) will have to pay for our singers to compete. This year the entire Eurovision project will be financed through private funds or to be more precise - private companies. Some of these are Apu Network from Sweden (the network of Bosnian entreprenuers living in Sweden), BBI Real Estate, Azel France + bunch of companies from Bosnia & Herzegovina.

Deen confirmed something we already know: you cannot win if the only thing you have is enthusiasm. You need money and PR agencies. Overall, without big Bosnian companies you cannot win or make it to top 3 or 4.

Finally, they still haven't collected money for trip to Sweden and all these stuff the team needs. They have secured fees to compete and that's all.

The guy who wrote the song has its own music company so he was ready to finance the Eurovision project. In FIVE days they secured money for Eurovision.

Oh Bosnia, it's been like this for decades I guess no matter what we do. :D But it seems it works.

Korake ti Znam already sounded beautiful in 2012, then there aren't any problem of singing in Bosnian, even though I don't understand any words in this language.
Although Bosnia and Herzegovina's official language isn't a big asset, they will qualify thanks to the Balkan's voting block though.
I keep an attentive eye on what will the Bosnian entry look like imo.

Not necessarily.

Take a look at some recent results from semi final and you will notice that Balkan block is not that strong as everyone claims. ::me 2014 made it without any help of ex-yu countries. Even without 12 points from ::al, they would make it through. There were quite a number of other countries, including western ones that gave votes to Montenegro. I noticed in semifinals from 2013 and onwards that always one Balkan country gets 10 or 12 from its neighbour, while other neighbours give it 5, 4 or even less.

::me 2015 would still qualify, even without those 10 points that they got from ::sl. ::rs 2015 would still be a qualifier as well, even without 12 points that they got from ::mk. Also, ::mk flopped despite getting 12 points from ::sl in 2014 and ::rs in 2015.

I didn't mean ::mk or ::rs and not ::me at all...
Actually, I did want to say that Bosnia and Herzegovina was the most successful balkan country in the ESC, and that's quite pleasant to see them in the grand final.
Moreover, BH has been helped several times by its neighbors.

Do you really believe Bosnian, Croatian and Serbian are different languages? :D

"Native language" is totally fine since all "three" are the same. I can suggest you a beautiful and great book about why people force this imaginary division of a single language. Folks in B&H, Serbia, Croatia and Montenegro speak the same language no matter what name of the language people prefer.

I agree, all of them are actually one language Serbo-Croatian.

Whatever the heck they prepared, I cannot wait to hear it.

I remember many people having a bad feeling about Who See, but in the end, the response was better than expected. I still enjoy that track even today, so I might end up liking this one as well.

Glad they chose City Hall as a place for song presentation. It is one of the most fascinating buildings in the Balkans I would say. You can find Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra concert from 2014 on Youtube - stunning filming.

Well that' really nice, but don't you think Deen's family relations don't have smth with this, this year in BIH they pay more attention to ESC entry than earlier..I'm just saying, i'm not sure I'm 100% right, but it's a bit fishy..
i still expect entry to be good, cause great ppl are involved in it.. ;)

You are right, I am getting bad feelings now where they put artist after artist in the line up....soon Christer Björkman will decide to just "Various Artist From Bosnia & Herzegovina" as the artist cause the actual name is too long.
