....
Yes we are back on track, and this time just after Zeljkos violins ended in his winning reprise from last edition is the EYCC back, for their glorious 5th edition! It is the only song from San Marino which is left, so yes she is back! ;) And no, noone gets ::sm, it has been put outside of the selection.

I'll try and give you my choices tomorrow. I kinda face palmed when I saw the countries I had picked. It's not as bad as I first thought though, i'm just going to have to take a bit of time to look through my choices. I'm obviously going to have to go waaaay back in time with these ones, to get something i'd be satisfied with.

Well done for knowing everything in advance and for making such clean and concise conclusions about Helena.

I'm not "throwing mud" on anyone. We were all waiting to start this edition. It's only fair to the host and to those who sent songs before the deadline to get this edition going instead of waiting for days on someone who might be too busy to send entries anyway. But of course, I'm the evil one for pointing this out.

You could have read on the forum that she even cancelled her own game because she started to work, and she logs in once per day for like 5 minutes (yesterday she didn't log in at all). It is not a disrespect towards the host, but being unable to have a constant and stable connection and to be here, above all.

When you try to portray someone in one way or another, then at least get the right informations, it is not as if they are hidden, because she wrote several times on the forum that she practically not be here this month, so she is not hiding that. This way, that you went for (again) is just malicious.

Not to mention that this is not the first time you are trying to label her like someone who doesn't respect people around her.

And since I figured she was busy, having logged on after the deadline but not sending an entry, is why I suggested that we open up the remaining numbers to those who were not busy, since that would be the fair and logical thing to do. You turned this into an attack.

I did not portray her in any way at all. I only noted the facts that she had been online after Adam posted the @mentions but had not sent an entry, a sign that it would only make sense to open up her numbers to other players. You, on the other hand, seem to love to portray me as some sort of evil witch for only thinking it makes sense to follow deadlines and play the game.

Not to mention that this is not the first time you are trying to label her like someone who doesn't respect people around her.I did not say anything about respect. I said that it was only fair to the other participants and the host to continue with the game.

I think that there was a little of an overreaction here. Stargazer was just trying to rush things up in the best interest of other contestants, although there was no rush. But I can understand it if she thought that Hele. would be away for a long time, say, like a week or the whole month she has been mentioning. Thankfully she noticed in time and we can kick this off soon. The stressing was uncalled for, just my opinion, moderators above all should give the example and keep it cool :)

That is your problem. You are constantly putting through the same issue, 3 times already, how she is disrespectful, how she "certainly saw everything but still didn't care enough to send the songs". I read perfectly beyond the lines and it is clear what you wanted to write, and I still remember what you were writing about her as well, and how you tried to even push her away from participating.

As I said, when you want to attack someone like this, please inform yourself nicely before you do so, because it looks bad.

It is not an overreaction as this is the same issue that is repeating, against the same user from her side. And she does similar things against others too, and since nobody speaks up against this in public (they do it secretly though), then a mod is the right person to do so.

But you are right that this should stop since the issue is resolved. However, if the same user repeats this in the future again, I will react the same way :) But now, let's return to the topic!

Votes are in :) So many entries from 2011 :o Sadly had to leave out a few songs that I like, not sure if the semi is that strong or if I should just revise my ESC yearly rankings. Great couple of openers and closers for the recaps, I found them very fitting anyway. xup

Three of my top four favourites from the most memorable Eurovision year ever for me are in this semi, only Kaliopi is missing. I think my points will be kind of obvious here.. but i'm worried my song competing in this round won't make it. This seems like it could be the most competitive semi final ever.

Stargazer
7th September 2014, 21:53
I don't even like ten songs in this semi. :( :?

That is your problem. You are constantly putting through the same issue, 3 times already, how she is disrespectful, how she "certainly saw everything but still didn't care enough to send the songs". You keep mentioning disrespect, yet I said no word about it. You are adding meaning and words that I did not mean or say. I did not say that she doesn't care. You read far beyond any lines and made something up. I did not attack anyone. I only stated a fact that she had been online but had not sent an entry, which is perfectly true. You say that I should inform myself nicely because it looks bad otherwise? Stop assuming you know exactly what I meant, then. You did not inform yourself at all, instead you jumped to all sorts of conclusions.

Stargazer, I was online very shortly (check my activity more detailly if you wish) and wasn't able to send songs at that moment despite I see mention. I will not explaining now (I wrote longer post two times but always someone interrupting me or I clicked something and it lost) but if I was able to send songs immediately of course I would do that. Also, I was surprised to see everything happening so fastly and at start we didn't have exactly ddl set...Anyway I sent songs as soon as I could and Schlagerman1 accepted it as he is reasonable and in the end everything is in time and game is not in prolongation. Just voted. Choosing a top 10 was really easy. There was only one song I thought of giving points to that has missed out but it's no biggie. I could only award 7 points to my own entry in this round. I'm hoping it can make it but I have my doubts. I'm actually kind of worried as I tactically switched around my 7 and 6 at the last moment as I thought that every point could count. I really want my 6 pointer to make it though, so I hope I haven't just screwed it over. This country deserves to make the final with such a brilliant entry.

No prizes for guessing my top 3xcrazy

7/10, a little better than expected. Very happy with my entry going through, that was a nice surprise to me xyes Interesting qualifications by a couple of countries there, such as ::lv and ::lu, didn't see it coming. A bit gutted for Valentina since it was so near but then again it is her worst ESC entry after all. I'd still trade it for ::al or ::gr though. As for Azerbaijan, they must be the least liked ESC winner of this (and possibly the last too) decade  From the songs that qualified but that I didn't vote for I guess that ::ba is the best one. Once again I think I need to revise my yearly ESC rankings since I am still voting based on that and I like ::bg entry better these days, for instance.

What did you mean with "2nd time, and the first time in the final since edition 1 for the Albanians!" btw Schlagerman1? Bit confusing.

Yeah, I have a feeling that this could happen. We know it did in the last round, where the die hard Loreen fans voted down Valentina and Bulgarian icon Sofi Marinova. It was very upsetting. Hopefully Doris fans will be out in full force and the Loreen fans take a good listen to "Marija Magdalena". I know they will be hypnotised.

Unfortunately I don't remember exactly how I voted in this last semi because I mistakenly didn't save my voting document and cleared my inbox big time just yesterday. I think I managed a 7/10 still, not sure if you still have my PM and this can be confirmed Schlagerman1.

Also unfortunate is the fact that for the first time ever, after 3 editions taking part in, I failed to bring one of my entries to the final :( I can now reveal that it was ::ad. I'm really surprised that it almost did make it to the final, though. Didn't see that coming at all, so thanks to everyone who voted for it :) I thought that it would be ranking at the bottom instead.

Other than that I can only be sorry for ::ro if the entry was Nico & Vlad's (?). Really like that ballad although I think that Nico's vocals ruin it a bit. The other song which I attributed points and didn't make it through I simply can't remember xhmm Poland? Monaco?

But I have to agree with the tremendous injustice concerning Françoise Hardy failing to qualify. Those 15 secs @ recap (or so) of watching her perform had me so mesmerized. Perhaps it's not safe to send out songs that old in these initial editions of the contest. That's why I think it didn't do as good as it should. The oldies would maybe be better off competing against each other when all of the recent years entries have been taken ;)

Edward
18th September 2014, 21:21
Ok, a little elf just told me that my other song that didn't make it was ::nl after all. But I don't remember from which ESC year it is, which feels kind of silly since it was my ::10. The injustice feels even bigger than Monaco's then, since if it wasn't for my points it would have ended 20th :p

Yeah but the oldies seem to actually do very well in this contest, in particular the female vocalists. In fact, I picked three very old songs for this edition and have lost two of them. However, my favourite of the three gets an automatic place in the final. The old Monaco songs sent in the previous editions have all done very well. I'm kind of miffed how Françoise (who happens to actually be a legend) failed so badly. I was quite mesmerised by the performance as well. I've learnt that this particular edition of the contest held in 1963 was a very special one. An untraditional boom microphone was used (probably hoisted above the performers head), so the camera was very up close and personal for each performance.

The Estonian entry isn't popular with me and neither is the Israeli entryxsnooty I respect Loreen's song a lot but i'm not crazy for it. I think this is the best final of this game we have had. I just hope one of the really obvious entries doesn't winxpray

My favourite Eurovision song of all time is in this one and it also happens to be probably the most polarising entry ever, either disgusting people or turning them to near emotion wrecks. I'm hoping for some kind of miracle but I don't think this entry will win, though it could come close. There are too many good songs here. I honestly don't know where my points are going.

I don't recall it about the oldies then xthink What's the best place an old song has reached here? And that info about the 1963 ESC edition was interesting to read about, thanks for sharing. It's one of the older editions I haven't gone through with watching the entire broadcast, I kinda stopped circa 1972 some months ago, but hope to resume this in the near future. Personal is exactly the perfect word to describe how it felt to revisit Françoise's performance. I felt held captive in a beautiful moment of art there. A possible reason for failure, that is perhaps less disputable, is the fact that it is a Francophone song and the newer generations just don't go along with the French stuff. Which is a bit of a shame, I miss their ballads and chanson entries. They totally had a word to say in ESC back then and were certainly feared, the Francophone countries.

About Andorra, yes it is :D At the 9th song it becomes my first failure, but at least it fell down with some unexpected dignity. I didn't have much luck with this edition, being the last person to be given numbers and only two of them. On top of that from countries that have little ESC tradition. I'm happy however that at least the other song made it through. I'm not expecting a great result in the final but I might just be surprised again. The fact that it made it there already feels like a personal victory to me anyway. I confessed to the host after sending my entries that I expected them both to be knocked out by this stage already.

It depends of course of what you can call an oldie, but Norway 1995 is the only winner so far that is pre-2000. We have had a few songs from the 90s that reached top 5, but so far the oldest songs that reached that high so far is Denmark 63 (5th in 2nd edition) and Monaco 71 (3rd in 2nd edition). Also as I said earlier this edition has a record of pre-2000 songs in the final (12) and also a record when it comes to amount of songs from before 1990 (7), so this edition is historical in terms of EYCCs short history. ;)

I believe our weeks of campaigning have helped to comfortably secure Doris Dragovic's win tonight. I handed out some last minute Doris flyers this afternoon with the words "etoV ainablA" printed all over.

I hear the Croatian Broadcaster have already created plans for the venue and host city for next game, hosted by Doris herself.

This is a scandal of Belarus style proportions. I cannot believe what has just happened. How could the peoples favourite Doris Dragovic only come ninth!? I'm in utter shock. I hear there was a lot of money going around between certain members here, trying to temp Doris voters to lessen their points. It seems to have worked.

The contest has lost all credibility, I'm sure people will be up in protest storming the streets demanding a recount of the correct votes. I bet it's Sweden with Loreen trying to kill their main competition for the crown, however it appears this has backfired and Doris fans voted against Loreen.

All jokes aside, who could have predicted this result? The most polarising Eurovision song of all time coming first, beating well deserved Eurovision icon Loreen and many other big hitters. It just shows that over time, the love and appreciation for such a raw, human piece of music is still strong. The song is still with people. It genuinely changed my life and helped me through a very bad time. I love the song with all my heart. I understand why many don't like it but I think it's just something very special how a little group of us have voted it the winner of Schlagerman's wonderful game. My favourite edition of it to date. I've loved so many songs and discovered some great one's I had not heard before.

I completely agree with you. It's my favourite song ever and I think Rona's performance was the most special thing to ever hit the Eurovision stage, in a league of it's own.

Thank god I didn't give Bosnia & Herzegovina any points in the final. I actually really like their song but it was such a strong final thankfully. So happy for this winner! Such a surprise.

So here is the semi scoreboards, first semi 1:
http://oi62.tinypic.com/r015xl.jpg

So Estonia won actually the first semi, before Bosnia and the becoming winners Albania just 3rd place here. Georgia was the one who just caught the last place in the final infront of San Marino and Austria. Ukraine missed their first final in EYCC big time, came last with just 7p.

Semi 2:
http://oi59.tinypic.com/28kpphd.jpg

The 2nd semi ended with Norway winning before Israel and Croatia being at third place. Lithuania grabbed the 10th place infront of Andorra with 3p. Montenegro, who aswell been in all finals before ended outside, rather far away from the final, here last place with 8p.

Final:
http://oi59.tinypic.com/2vtz3wz.jpg

So here it is, Albania has won the 5th edition of Eurovision Your Choice Contest, overcoming the ones that beat her in the semi, Bosnia & Herzegovina and Estonia. Interesting to see that the top 6 in semi 1 all got before the top 3 in semi 2. :p The biggest surprise may be Luxembourg that fly up to 4th place in the final. A potential disapointment perhaps is Belarus that was actually 4th in the semi, but came only 19th in this strong final!

In just a bit who got which country! :D

It's great how she won you over and at least it was before the contest as well:p It's a very complex composition that doesn't follow a typical structure and her voice as we all know, is very raw. The notes she hits aren't pleasant ones.. they are piercing and with much dissonance in relation to the neoclassical backing. It's understanding why so many hated it at first or didn't understand it. You were won over however and that's great. Many people still hate it or don't understand it. I remember at the time I was practically alone with my love of the song when she won Festivali I Kengis and I literally found myself writing essays in defence of the song:lol:

My Lastfm page says i've listened to "Suus" nearly 1000 times and I still go cold all over when I listen to Rona sing it live. I'm unsure that i'll ever hear another song in my life that will have the same effect on me emotionally. "Suus" is life affirming to me and the essence of the human spirit and all we feel.. and how that we can release whatever we want, whatever that is inside of us.. if we are brave enough.

Terrible results. Serbia 2012 won last edition and now Albania 2012? They are nice songs but not better than the epic winner that year.

This show how much ESC fans hate Sweden. I wonder why?

I personally love Sweden as an ESC country. I don't think hardly anyone hates Sweden or Loreen for that matter of fact. Actually, Sweden is probably the most celebrated ESC country among fans of the contest. Albania 2012 on the other hand had so much hatred thrown at it, around the time it competed in 2012. In my opinion, "Suus" is the greatest song that has even competed at the contest by a mile. I hold it in such high regard and so do others who were touched by it. I'm unsure that we'll ever have something so raw and experimental at the contest again. I'm thrilled and shocked at the same time that it's managed to beat all the songs in this edition of the contest. I consider Loreen the toughest of competition to beat and I honestly thought that no one would have been able to stop her. Sweden winning this would have been a very predictable result, even Israel or Estonia. Instead we've got an entry the vast majority of people despised two years ago. An entry that completely divides opinion. I think it's an exciting winner.

AshleyWright
24th September 2014, 11:38
SuperGirl I also thought Sweden was going to walk this, still coming 5th is a good result :) If people wanted to flop it then they would just not vote for it. I personally think why you always think people hate Sweden, when its quite the opposite (as Rainywoods has explained). Anyway I would love to thank you on your excellent choice of song for Croatia.

I'm starting to think Sweden shouldn't take part in fan polls like these. I mean if 1996 and 2012 can't win for Sweden who will do that?

Schlagerman1
24th September 2014, 18:38
^ Sweden has lots of great entries left to choose and the chances are increasing since it will be less songs competing for each round. :) I love Euphoria and think that is, only beating by Den Vilda, our best entry ever sent to ESC, but this edition had LOADS of great songs, so it didn't get more than 5 for me in the final. :( But I am sure that Sweden will be up in top 5 several times more. ;)

RainyWoods
24th September 2014, 18:59
I'm starting to think Sweden shouldn't take part in fan polls like these. I mean if 1996 and 2012 can't win for Sweden who will do that?

You've got to remember it's a small, select group of fans that are voting in this mini contest. Year after year Sweden wins fan polls around the web. You make it sound as if it's quite the opposite when it's not the case. Sweden is a great ESC country but you can't win them all. Fifth place is nothing to be ashamed of, I had to put up with fifth for my favourite song back in 2012 when it competed and was extremely happy with the result. This is just a game. Nothing will ever take away Loreen's epic win. We're just a slightly off kilter bunch of fans here with peculiar taste. "Suus" winning has just shown us that anything has a chance. There are plenty of Swedish songs left that have a chance.

Anyway, I must also thank you SuperGirl as AshleyWright has done, for picking one of the most earth shatteringly good ESC entries of all time. I've had a week of Doris Dragovic thanks to youxheat

At least there were some other great songs in the top 5. xlove

I'm starting to think Sweden shouldn't take part in fan polls like these. I mean if 1996 and 2012 can't win for Sweden who will do that?
It's not a conspiracy against Sweden. It all comes down to what songs those who participate in this wee contest like. Just because Sweden won in 2012, doesn't mean that we all think it's the best song that year. For me Serbia 2012 is a much better song than Euphoria, and I'm Swedish!

Finally I have some time to post down my belated reactions to this last edition of EYCC. But first I'd like to point out to a couple of mistakes that were made and that I was a little surprised that nobody noticed, particularly those who followed the results show live. In the result for the ::hr song, SuperGirl is listed twice. I had a look at the table and I believe that Schlagerman1 means himself and not her in regards to who gave this song 8 pts. The other mistake I noticed is that again SuperGirl is incorrectly written as having given points to the ::ee song. greece gave it 2 pts, not her. And lastly my 4 pts for that very same song are missing from being listed there, otherwise if you count up the displayed points it would have end up with 66 and not with the actual 70 that it did end up with :)

In terms of reactions to the final placements now, think it's a bit unfair that ::lv got last place when there were far worse songs in the contest. ::uk being 25th is also undeserving. I would have voted for Sir Cliff Richard's song (one of the best ESC winners ever) but I had to leave out other songs that I liked as well so in the end I couldn't get it done. Just like with ::is Pollapönk who did quite well and finished in the top half. That was a nice surprise to me given that they are not always given the appreciation that I think that they are entitled. I'm also glad that oldies like ::ch and ::it entries that I voted for at least got some appreciation and ended up just a bit off the top half. It's always nice to revisit these older songs, so thanks to the people who have chosen those entries.

Speaking of the top 10 now, ::il Same Heart ending up in 8th was also a bit of a surprise. Maybe the song starts to wear off from people's minds by now or chances to other songs were given going into this final. This wasn't the case with me, I would have voted for it, it was just one of those songs that barely missed my top 10. I don't think it would have made much of a difference anyway as they would have been bottom points. I'm satisfied with ::no Silent Storm ending up that well because I also think it's a song that starts to wear off. I'm not sure if it's right to say that ::se Euphoria is that much appreciated in overall. It's certainly not one of my favorite Swedish entries by a long shot and there are obviously others that IMO are better and could do better around here. So I'm not that shocked that it ended up 5th or that it didn't win this edition of the game. ::lu was my favorite for the win but I knew it'd be hard. Still that's a very honorable final place just outside the podium and it feels nice to be wrong, considering what I just had written about Francophone countries songs a few days earlier. ::lu Vicky Leandros entry is not even one of the best ESC songs from its respective country so it was really nice to see it doing that good and receiving 3 sets of ::10 and a couple of ::7's. I knew that ::ee Rändajad was hot around these boards but not that hot. It was the song I voted for that ended up doing better so it's nice to see it up there in 3rd place. This also becomes interesting info to me and for my own contest. Could it do that well there too? Then again only half of the people that have voted for it here also vote there.
I did not vote for ::ba entry, it always felt like something is missing from the song in terms of musicality to me. The stage presentation was very pleasant but it kinda ended there for me. It's not that strong as a song as I wish it was. Still I would have had it winning this edition of EYCC rather than ::al. I'm really not a fan at all, but I understand that for the reasons posted here by others and for being a song that really does stand out from anything else seen at ESC before it gets the recognition that it gets.

As for my only song that made it into the final, like I think I already said before it felt like a personal victory to me that it reached that stage of the competition. On the other hand it's a slight disappointment that I couldn't give this song it's country's best placement ever but I knew it was hard to do that when ::ge Sopho and her Visionary Dream card had already been played. It's probably the most liked Georgian entry ever around these parts after all. But at least the same place as in EYCC4 could be maintained, so in the end it feels like it was a positive choice that I ended up doing.

I would not be surprised if I did some wrong in the presentation of the results, but I followed the results of the total scoreboard I had posted after the show, so if they were some errors in the results, it is problably corrected in the total scoreboard! :)
