Same, they did say that their position didn't bother them. It was that they wanted to take part to promote Bulgaria and their musicians.

Fingers crossed for beter budget of BNT for next year. We will be back for sure in that case. The results were never the case. As they stated in the withdrawal statement, their aim is to promote the country and to allow our musicians to go on big stage.

Probably my favourite country in ESC, I want them back so bad. :'(

Bulgaria are my second favourite ESC country of late, only behind Albania. I think they are the most robbed country in the contest. The juries wrecking them over all the time despite brilliant entries. Sofi Marinova and Elitsa & Stoyan were incredible and should have made the final.

Sofi especially gave one of the most memorable performances. Just her alone, working that big stage and her voice was sensational. So much charisma. No one else would dare to pull off a big dance song without backing. Her voice filled the arena. I'd love to see her back one day.

Sofi must perform again for us one day, but with ballad which is her traditional style and her best songs are breathtaking ballads. Love Unlimited was something very new for her.

Such passion for a song. You clearly care a great deal for this song. You must have rang a lot during voting to help get Bulgaria those five-point that we gave them. Without your help Bulgaria would never have done so well in our televoting that year. xcry

It would certainly be a different from what we have seen. Because I started properly watching in 2009 I've never seen a Bulgaria in the final, and it's about time that they make it.(should they return, which I expect to happen without hesitation).

I think a kick-starter is actually a really great idea. You could give 10 and receive a signed promo cd by the artist. I'm unsure how much just a country needs to take part but I imagine the fans would make it happen. I'd certainly give.

50,000.00 for an evening meal with Sofi Marinova followed by a mini concertxyes

BGN

They are real, because the government promised additional funding after the meeting with the EBU, and there is World Cup this year as well - it is expected BNT to gather some incomes from advertising rights. There are talks with sponsors as well, but it's too early to be said what will be our destiny.

Well, if Bulgaria sends a wailing singer trying to copy some dated American Disney ballad, then maybe the juries will show them some love.

If they however return with something which actually represents them in native language, we'll see the jury slaughter again.

Seriously, I hope they won't return. Not because I don't want them in (because I want them!), but because of how mistreated they have been by the Europhobic juries. It's pointless to enter a contest where you are supposed to send something representing your country, but get punished by doing so by biased "experts".

.... There is something symbolic in the fact that Conchita won at a time when euro-skepticism (or alternatively speaking - national populism) is on the rise, while Russia just like Victor Frankenstein resurrects the anti-western Zombie from the Cold War. I've read a lot hysterical questions around social media "is what you are European values ?". Terrifying is that after years of applying for EU membership, reforms and finally - the actual accession, the Bulgarian mass does not know and does not understand what " European" values are and how someone like Conchita fits them.
No "women with beards" are not themselves European values. Nor transgendered people. Nor being gay . European values are things like the rule of law, respect for rights and freedoms of all citizens (but of quite all not just those we like or those who are like us) and full participation in society for everyone who wants it. Being gay, transgender woman or "a woman with a beard" are consequences of these values. And do not constitute an obligation to anyone else ....

The post is liked also by the Director General of BNT.

Here we go, they will search for a mediocre westernized safe song in English to cater to juries... I applaud the juries for scaring countries into sending something that actually represents them xshrug

Anyways BNT did wrong with sending Stoyan and Elitsa again, it was just "too" ethno, if they sent something chalga I think Bulgaria could have made it...

To be honest, for once I want something simple. In most of our attempts we overdo the thing when it comes to stage presentation. So the song maybe have to be ballad to match the "keep it simple" concept. It could be Balkan style of ballad, like what we've sent in 2006. I think that if send our first two entries now, they would have done a lot better in the scoreboard than in 2005 and 2006.

Today was announced that most probably this year in late autumn there will be new elections in Bulgaria for Parliament. There is discussion that we have real probabilty that the new state budget won't be decided this year as usual, but in the first months of 2015 (or even later). Although nothing has been official decided as date for new elections and the budget issue is still not on the table, this is not looking good at all.

A Sofi Marinova comeback at Eurovision would be epic xheat

I still regard her entry as one of the most robbed songs of recent times. The performance had so much energy. I thought that the staging was great as well, although I know not everyone was keen. I just thought she rocked it out there by herself. She has such incredible charisma.

My Sofi Marinova "71 Golden Hits" CD that a cherished friend once gifted me still comes out from time to time. Most artists struggle for a single hit, Sofi has had 71xqueenbitch and the 71 hits miraculously fit onto ONE essential disc.

This song is immense..

Great article Sean.

Bulgaria has had four brilliant entries in my opinion, three of which failed to qualify. Even the songs i'm not crazy about probably deserved better as well.

Elitsa & Stoyan's second attempt, Deep Zone & Balthazar and the legend that is Sofi Marinova all were robbed.

I wouldn't say Illusion was "great", however I agree that it wasn't half as bad as people make it out to be, in fact I quite enjoyed it (in studio version), but yeah the live performance was a complete train-wreck  and 2009 was such a strong year that I don't think it would qualify even with a good performance, while the song not being as bad as people say it's still not "up there".

Bulgaria was robbed in 2008, 2011, 2012 and 2013 however, and the latter two was the work of the evil anti-Euro minds of the juries because we would have got Bulgaria in the final both of those years if it wouldn't have been for the juries loath for everything that isn't according to their safe-western-anglo formula.

Means that the previous government cut off 5 millions leva in the autumn of 2013 (which prevented us to take part in Eurovision 2014), then they made even further budget cuts in the summer ot 2014 and now when the past government resigned, the new (interim) one will give back these 5 million leva.

There is something interesting:
- Last year on November, 22nd first Serbia and then Bulgaria confirmed that they would not take part in Eurovision 2014. Then was the Confirmation deadline and both broadcasters hadn't sent even preliminary confirmation.
- This year on July, 25th first Serbia and then Bulgaria confirmed that they will return to Junior Eurovision
- Now again at the same date first Serbia and then Bulgaria confirm that they have sent the papework to EBU for their priliminary confirmations.

Yes, they withdrew so that in case they could not find solution, not to suffer any fines. But EBU will release the list with participatiing countries in January after they see what's happening with Greece. I think that they will allow other "problematic" countries to join. And I think that we really have to be granted with exception, because we don't have working parliament and government and there is huge delay with the budget of the country for 2015. So BNT really can't say if they will have the money, because they don't know what's going on with their budget. On the other hand bTV would like to talk about future plans after JESC finishes.

That will indeed happen. IMO, these deadlines are only to distinguish the countries that are sure from the ones which have some problems. And that way EBU could have plausible count of participating countries (with only 2-3 countries being not sure), and that is important thing to know, because of the organisation and so on. The strict deadline is the day of allocation draw in January.

According to this report, the Bulgarian broadcaster BNT has not made a final decision on their participation at the 2015 Eurovision Song Contest in Vienna, Austria.
While neither withdrawal nor participation can be confirmed, this leaves ESC fans a glimmer of hope of Bulgaria returning to the contest. On October 10th*ESC United reported (http://www.escunited.com/home/bulgaria-no-participation-in-vienna/) that the Bulgarian broadcaster decided that they would not be taken part next year. They had previously submitted a preliminary application but decided to pull out within the final deadline.

It now appears that it’ll come down to current political circumstances which are expected to be resolved within the next couple of weeks. At that point BNT*will make their decision whether or not to join the fun in May. The EBU has given the broadcaster an extension to resolve the issues and is awaiting their decision.
So the back and forth continues and we’ll keep you in the loop so make sure to check back soon and join the conversation HERE (http://www.escunited.com/t11968-10/)about Bulgaria and discuss Eurovision with fans from all around the world.

According some sources, the deadline extention for BNT is up to END OF JANUARY, as the broadcaster informed EBU that due to the fact there is no government and the parliement is working for only week, there is no approved even draft budget of the country for 2015. That means BNT also has no clue about their money for 2015.

And the broadcaster and people are both very interested in these contests, which is quite surpirsing as we don't have big Eurovision tradition (we are one of the newest countries in the contest) and we fail big time most of the time. We even have many people which love Eurovision here. Hopefully BNT will find solution.

I remember winning reading somewhere (i think last year) that failing to qualify isn't a massive thing for them, they only wish to promote Bulgaria and it's music industry to Europe.

Today it was released the draft budget of Bulgaria for 2015. BNT will have the same amount of money from it as in 2014. Luckily there are no further budget cuts.

Hope they can join in :( not a massive fan of some of their entries but they've had their share of unfair results (2013 xcry1) and I'd love to see them qualify if the song is good.

Samo Shampioni! (Na-na-na-na-na)
Just because they have the same budget does not mean they might make priorities and still participate? I think they will :D

Fingers crossed, I'm sure they will try and shift some money about from other areas - especially with their result in JESC.

Just because the total budget is the same, it doesn't follow that they'll break that down in the same way. For example, last year they would have spent a fair bit of money broadcasting the World Cup. That money will be spare in 2015.

It's not the world cup problem rather the introduction of digital terrestrial broadcasting in Bulgaria. BNT need to spend a lot money for new equipment while in the same time their budget has been cut with. Let's not talk about the fees abot that thing, which according some newspapers are twice than before. Fingers crossed that the will come up with something.

Can you sense the return of epic Bulgarian legend, Sofi Marinova?

I'd like her back with a hit song like this. Who else could rock a Mercedes in their sunday best the way Sofi can?

Anyway, I'm still waiting for confirmation on Eurovision.tv/broadcaster's site.

After finishing 2nd in JESC? And posting a Eurovision 2015 picture on their Facebook?

Bulgaria had all the reason to participate so whatever, their loss.

i figure a JESC participation is by far less expensive. so it's not so much a question of priorities.
