God his music is beautiful. If he were to compose a song for someone, that would be just wonderful.

I'd like to see the fantabulous John Grant, who this year helped write the lyrics for Pollaponk. I gather that he now resides in Iceland.

He's so good. Usually an artist like this i'd think would never do it but he's contributed to the contest this year in a small way so who knows. He may like to take part himself. He's a bit of a joker as well so would probably enter and see the light side of it all.

great band 8-)
probably not appropriate for ESC, but I love it. there is so much yearning in this song

furthermore I think it would be consequently if Ásgeir Trausti will participate, since he is the most talented young singer in Iceland. This year he made his first steps abroad with English versions of his songs, so I think he could have his international breakthrough soon. ESC would be helpful :D My favorite songs are "Dyrđ i dauđaţögn" and "Leyndermál" ... He has a very sensitive and versatile voice, he can sing high-pitched sounds. I like it very much. He is surely not one of the artists who is endangered to fail because of bad voice

In addition Of monsters and men is always good for great songs and they have international popularity

Moreover I'd like to see Ţorunn Antonia performing for Iceland, especially for optical reasons (http://magazine.wowiceland.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/thorunn-Antonia-minnkud.jpg)

I would be so ecstatic if Asgeir Trausti would consider taking part, but I highly doubt he would. He is a fantastic musician, but in interviews and even on stage he is shy and doesn't like much attention. I think that Eurovision Song Contest would be a bit too much for him :D

I love him doing this cover of Nirvana's Heart Shaped Box, he surely did put his fingerprint on it.

Something similar to King and Cross would be just fine for the contest;)

I tweeted about Iceland's National pre-selection to Sin Fang, Olafur Arnalds, and Mum (all of whom are my favourite Icelandic artist), and so far only Sin Fang retweeted and favourited it. I hope this means something.. Well it sounds like I exaggerate it, but as a Eurovision fan, I was pretty thrilled when my favourite artist responded to my Eurovision kinda tweet..

Asgeir, Mum, Sin Fang... they're damn good, but I can't really figure them on the ESC stage. I would be really surprised and thrilled if they would make it. But I don't think it will happen. I have a feeling that Iceland will rely on something milder this year, something in line with Yohanna

wow, never heard of Asgeir before i saw it here and it's really really good. I listened to some other songs of him and he is an amazing artist. I would go crazy it this would represend Iceland in eurovision, but honestly that is not the right stage for him. I think his songs will be overlooked, an i actually believe that Asgeir is too good for a contest like this.

I'm still expecting a great song from ::is this year like every year. They have been in my top 10 for 5 years in a row now ;)

Hmm not impressed by the participants... No Ásgeir, no Sin Fang, no Kaleo or even Of monsters and Men :(

From these singers I only know Fredrik Dór, who is a decent artist and of course Regina Ósk.
I liked her very much 2008 together with this Barney Stinson guy ... "this is my life" is still on of the best Iceland entries ever. Love this Song

The fact that I dont know most of the participants raises the surprise effect. I'm optimistic there will be at least one pearl of a song in which I fall in love

I really liked "This is my life" as well, I am intrigued if she has gone for something as amazing as that. xheat Iceland is one of my favourite eurovision countries, There is nothing I have ever hated from Iceland over the past decade or so. Just to give you guys more info on these contestants I'm going to add some videos here. First off is Regina, which every Eurovision fan should know, so there shouldn't be any need for introduction;) I loved her song in ESC 2006 Prelims - "Ţér viđ hliđ". Her voice is fantastic. I just hope she will get a song that showcases her vocals to the fullest without being outdated.

Bjarni Lárus Hall, is nicknamed Baddi and he was the lead singer in the band Jeff Who? I am very excited to hear what he has to offer here. I think we could be up for some treat here. Jeff Who's? most popular song is Barfly, and it is very addictive, to say the least:D

The group SUNDAY, I haven't heard of, but Hildur Kristín, one of the singers is part of the band Rökkuró. Here is one song from Rökkuró, called "Svanur" or "Swan" in English. It's not my type of music, but I'm sure this is some people's cup of tea. This doesn't mean that the song in Söngvakeppnin will be similar to this music, it could be totally different.

CADEM which consists of Daníel Óliver and two swedish singers and dancers could either be a hit or miss IMO. Daníel has been living in Sweden for a while, and I'm sure there are some Swedes who recognize him. I think his song "DJ blow my speakers" was rather popular in Sweden! I think it got some radio play, or at least that's what I heard. Again not my kind of music, but I would be very surprised if he will not put on a big show on stage and he will most definitely get votes from the younger crowd.

Haukur Heiđar Hauksson, now here is one singer that I can't wait to hear from. He is the singer of one of my favorite Icelandic band Dikta. :D I don't know if you have heard of them, but their genre is rock. One of their most popular song is "Thank you" but that is not my favorite song by them. They have so many good songs that I just couldn't choose, so I'm posting three videos..

The first one is "Thank you".

Like Regína, Erna Hrönn should be known to Eurovision fans. I love her smile and her voice is beautiful. For some reason I have never connected with the songs she has sang in Söngvakeppnin. They are always too sweet for my taste:? So even if I wanted to vote for her per se, there have always been other songs that I liked more in the contest. But she will singing a song by Arnar Ástráđsson, and it's not for the first time, since she also sang his song in 2011, "Ástin mín eina"

Björn Jörundur, is a very well known singer and a veteran in the music business. He is co-main singer of the band "Nýdönsk" and he has good following. I like the band and he has some raspy voice. Here is one of their newest song "Stafrófsröđ" or "alphabetical order". This will be very interesting.:D

He will be singing with 3 others, among them Pétur Örn Guđmundsson, which you should know since he has been taking part so often, mostly as backing vocal and he was the co-writer of "Ég á líf".

And now for the last performer, is the group HINEMOA and I have to admit I haven't heard a single song with this group, so I googled and found them on youtube. The song I am posting is called "Í rökkurró" or "In the quiet of the evening". Two of the singers in the group wrote the song last year "Eftir eitt lag" which Gréta Mjöll sang. I kind of like this song, and hopefully the song they will be performing in the contest will be something like this

Overall I'm pretty satisfied with this year's performers and hopefully the songs will be equally as good. Before hearing any of the songs I'm rooting for Bjarni Lárus Hall, Friđrik Dór, Haukur Heiđar and Björn Jörundur, but that could all change after hearing the songs.;) What do you guys think?

Sean

Haukur Heiđar if his song is anything like Dikta's music. Regina Ósk if it's like Euroband. Not really fussed about any of the others at the minute.

I just heard a radio-interview with Hera, the manager of Söngvakeppnin. The following information was revealed:

3 songs from each semi-final goes to the final + 1 wildcard.

No jury-votes in the semifinals, but in the final 50/50.

All the songs will go online in the beginning of the week when the 1st semifinal will be held, so I'm guessing Monday 26th. That's new, usually it has only been the songs who are participating in the first semifinal. I like that change xheya

wow it's so difficult to find a decent song here... :?

My fave is "Mykrid hljótt". Yeah, maybe too ESC-ish for 2015, but sounds really like something Iceland would totally send and it's quite nice.

"I kvöld" is good too, so sweet.

And that's all. The second semi is a mess. There's nothing for me and I'm so disappointed with Regina Osk. I expected something fresh danceable like "This is my life" and I find something completely different and quite boring.

Copied my comments from the other forum:

Ţú leitar líka ađ mér - This is so cute, the vocals, the music, so charming.
Piltur og stúlka - The singer's voice reminds me of their 2007 entrant, sort of sounds like something we'd hear in the 90s in eurovision, very powerful, probably not a good thing for eurovision, but I like it nonetheless.
Myrkriđ hljótt - This is quite lovely as well, sounds to me like another song we'd hear in esc 15-20 years ago which I quite enjoy.
Í síđasta skipti - His voice is very pleasant and so is the song, but as the song continues I lost interest in it.
Í kvöld - Continuing the line of the semi final, such a charming song with the focus over the Icelandic language her soft voice.
Augnablik - I'm afraid the r&b drums touch in this song doesn't help it being quite forgettable.

Out of this semi final I'd like Hinemoa, Björn og félagar and Elin to qualify

Milljón augnablik - Sounds alreadt vastly different from the songs in the first semi final this is more like those indie-folk-rock-whatever that has swept the world for the past few years, it's a nice song overall, don't have anything much more to say about it.
Lítil skref - so far the most modern production I've heard in the national final, I like how the verses build up, the chorus is a bit underwhelming but overall it's one of my favorites.
Fyrir alla - I expected much worse than this very disco-influenced and very current imo as well!
Fjađrir - Oh this is the clear standout in this selection loving it!
Brotiđ gler - This started well but went quite downhill fast, very forgettable.
Aldrei of seint - Loved her previous nf entry, this one is very nice as well, the language does wonders to the song as well.

And out of this semifinal I'd like Cadem, Sunday and Regina/Maria to qualify

Such a great national final, well done Iceland xheart and any translation of the song to English would be a crime.

Listening through the songs, first semi is filled with ballads :? The first song, "Ţú leitar líka ađ mér" is the best there I think, the rest are decent ballads, but is too many to be sure which is the best...

The 2nd semi is better! CADEM is so much Icelandic Alcazar, but I like their song!, guess the guy is only singing now cause the other girls are swedes and can't speak icelandic  But wow, Fjađrir is one hell of a song that I never expect to hear in Söngvakneppnin. Wonder how that song will look on stage and if the Icelandic will vote for it, cause it is a good song, but I wonder if they dare to send it to Vienna. But then again I wonder if they would work in ESC...I doubt it.. :(

Well I am not totally conviced this time either for Iceland, but they made it to 15th anyhow last year, so it might work in the end! :D

I don't have a clear favourite yet, but I have no doubt that Iceland will be high in my top again this year. All the songs sound so professional, emotional and are just filled with high quality music. After a first listen this would be my favourites, but this can easily change over time.
1. Stefanía Svavarsdóttir - "Augnablik"
2. Haukur Heiđar Hauksson - "Milljón augnablik"
3. Regína Ósk "Aldrei of seint"
4. HINEMOA -"Ţú leitar líka ađ mé
5. Bjarni Lárus Hall - "Brotiđ gler"
6. María Ólafsdóttir - "Lítil skref"
7. Elín Sif Halldórsdóttir - "Í kvöld"
8. Friđrik Dór - "Í síđasta skipti"

P.S. Please keep the song of whoever wins this year in Icelandic, it sounds soo much better that way ;)

I love that this year we are not listening to these traditional eurovision songs. We needed something fresh, something different, and for me that is the song Fjađrir by Sunday in Semifinal 2, that is, if they do well live. :p

Wait - hang on. Is RUV doing a "ballad bracket" and an "up-tempo bracket" so that at least three of each end up in the final? Brilliant! Now if only any of them were really good!

Edited after listening to Regina Osk's song: I hate to admit it, mostly because I didn't like "This Is My Life" at all, but Regina Osk's song is, in fact, really good.

So wowed by the very ethnic, interesting vibe to their songs. Really like it! Could make them stand out at Eurovision! I don't come across to say that I cross my fingers for "Piltur og stúlka" because Hafrun was in The Voice Of Germany and became one of my favourites! :/ :D Not the biggest fan of the song though.
Other than that the second semifinal has a lot of great songs! Good luck ;)

SF1
Piltur og Stúlka - ballads like this I heard very often but I think it could work well
Ţú leitar líka ađ mér - different, I like the trumpets, but it doesn't convince me though
Í síđasta skipti - disappointing song from Friđrik Dór
Augnablik - I like the rhythm
Myrkriđ hljótt - Great voice, powerful song but somehow boring
Í kvöld - cute girl with a cute voice, but is it presentable on stage?

SF2
Millljón augnablik - another 'augnablik' song.. at the beginning I thought this has potential but later on it became boring
Lítil skref - very modern for Söngvakeppnin but I like this song
Fyrir Alla - I think they could do a great show and I like the girls. Don't actually like this kind of music, but the song might grow on me.
Fjađrir - interesting song... that's all I write so far. Gotta listen to it more often
Aldrei of seint - Like this one!
Brotiđ gler - unfortunately the chorus is the worst part of the song :(

All in all the Semi Final 2 is more interesting... some kind of songs I didn't expect to participate in the Söngvakeppnin... it seems that there is more variety this year... I like it

I can't do any prediction. The Iceland results are mostly unpredictable :D

Turquoise = hit
Orange = maybe
Red = no way hosay

Semi 1

Ţú leitar líka ađ mér - Quite interesting. This is an unusual little entry. Something I can only imagine the icelandic giving us. I think I do quite like it.
Piltur og stúlka - I like this. It reminds me of something else I can't quite put my finger on. It's got a lovely sort of "coming together" feeling to it.
Myrkriđ hljótt - I wasn't expecting such a big chorus. This sounds overly familiar in parts but I enjoyed it. The chorus really pulls at the heart strings (strangely). I think this is good.
Í síđasta skipti - Soulful little number. Unsure on first listen. It's ok.
Í kvöld - Sweet but far too twee for my tastes. Nicely done for what it is though.
Augnablik - The music is lovely with this one but I don't like how the beat kicks in. I thought we were going to get a nice quality ballad but the percussion ruins it somewhat. It's still pleasant though, but nothing i'd go crazy for.

Semi 2

Milljón augnablik - Mixed feelings on this one. I keep thinking i'm going to hate it whilst I was listening but it's constantly going to unexpected places. I'm still unsure though.
Lítil skref - Too commercial sounding for me. Don't like her voice either.
Fyrir alla - I can see the Alcazar comparison but I find this sort of boring sadly.
Fjađrir - This one is interesting. It's not as eargasmic as it could be. It doesn't go to the places I was hoping but I like it... and now it has gone somewhere all of a sudden xheat This one is great.
Aldrei of seint - Ok, has not got me excited though.
Brotiđ gler - This one is pretty cool. I like the chorus and the verses have got a nice groove.

Nice-ish selection of songs with some pretty good ones. I'd say that Fjađrir probably have the most interesting composition here.

The piano and strings in the very beginning of Myrkriđ hljótt give me chills, so beautiful those first 15 seconds. The rest is good as well, though it's quite traditional ESC stuff with the powerful chorus and transposition at the end and all - but I don't mind, it sounds good. Might be a good choice.

"Aldrei of seint" is the kind of song that I'd listen to over and over again and it's definitely the best tune I've heard throughout all the selections.

I think it's a very romantic song with a gentle nordic touch.

I also think that I only can determine my preferences after seeing these songs on stage...
In the last two years I wasn't impressed by the Icelandic ESC song itself...
Ég á lif was a bit boring for me and Prejudices wasn't my cup of tea BUT both acts were really good on stage.
Eythor Ingi just has a fantastic voice which upgraded the song a lot, maybe the best voice of all participants in that year and Pollapönks performance were funny and entertaining and I think they got much sympathy from whole Europe.
That's why I'm very relaxed regarding the Icelandic NF.
I confide in the skills or the entertainment factor of the artists

I believe that "Aldrei of Seint" and "Augnablik" would be my favourites so far, and they might have the biggest chance of winning too! These are these songs you just cannot hate, you may be indifferent to it, but almost everybody would like these songs to some extend. :p

For now the Icelandic preselection still seems pretty open to me. Probably because all songs are just really really good. I didn't find one song that could be considered bad and each song has it's own different kind of appeal. I have to say that I am so surprised of how many good songs there is to choose from in this year‘s Söngvakeppni. Usually it has been one favorite song for me, and maybe 1-2 more that I would be OK with winning if my favorite didn‘t make it. Now, there are 6 songs that I just can‘t make my mind up about, since they are all great IMO, they are very different and could all be a possible winner in my mind. It all comes down to the live performances. After I have seen them on stage, I will hopefully know who to vote for in the final. I love songs from most genres, rock (mostly pop rock), indie, pop, classic. I am not so much for this typical ballad and that is why I don‘t particularly like Erna‘s or Regína‘s songs this year. I just think they are too much of the same that we have heard before.
The songs I really love this year are (in no particular order):

Lolinna

Piltur og stúlka (boy and girl).

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=psoZNv0qvnE

The lyrics may be similar to Pollapönk‘s „No prejudice“ last year, but this song just makes me really happy, I just start smiling, it is full of optimism, which I think Europe needs at the moment. As the chorus says:

We are all made from the same cloth
we all sing in the same choir.
It does not matter who I mention
wheather you are small or large.
It is proven once again that
everyone needs praise.
Like the soul needs warmth
life needs sunshine.

This song is about equality, mostly gender equality but it‘s not taking itself too seriously. I think this will look good on stage. These are three very experienced singers/musicians plus one who took part in the „The voice“ in Germany last year.

I have never been much of a fan of Friđrik Dór Jónson, mostly because I haven‘t been a fan of his music. I have been more a fan of his brother, Jón Jónsson. BUT, Friđrik is cute, and I am sure he will be very charismatic on stage. The lyrics are really good, and I am sure he will be singing it in english if he wins. This is a heart-break song and the chorus sounds like:

For the last time,
take my hand and don‘t let go.
Show me again what love is.
And oh o-o-o
Tell me
that you don‘t feel nothing, no sparks
that the warm emotions how cooled down
then I will know my way out.

He is going to melt some hearts in the audience if he does it well on stage and even if I liked the song from Hinemoa more in the beginning, this song has grown on me. Of course, when it comes to Eurovision, the first impressions matter the most, but I think that Friđrik‘s Dór stage performance will be very memorable.

Stefanía has a fantastic voice and Sveinn Rúnar Sigurđsson knows how to compose wonderful songs. This is a really strong ballad and the only ballad that appeals to me. The others are just too sweet for my liking. This one is about something that could have been. A love in one moment of time. What would have happen if things had gone differently. The chorus is:

Live is easy but love is demanding.
Wouldn‘t it be good,
if our eyes had met and sparkled,
a little flame that ignites again
for a little while.
On our destined meeting.
Love, one moment in time.
You, oh you
Love one moment in time.

I am almost sure that this song will be really strong in live performance. Stefanía has a really strong voice and I‘m sure she will be spot on.

Haukur Heiđar is one of my favorite Icelandic singers. I absolutely love Dikta‘s album „Get it together“ and they are working on their next album now, soon to come out. Karl Olgeir, the writer of the song is a great pianist, but I am almost certain that Haukur will be sitting by the grand piano in this song, and maybe some of his band members will be with him on stage. I just love his voice, it‘s tender, but Dikta‘s lyrics are really dark and deep and people often don‘t realize it, you really should check them out. The chorus is:

I wish,
to be here,
with you all the time.
Where ever I go,
I will look for you,
and will find you in the end.

This song is not about the lyrics, but about a great composition and voice. I know Haukur will deliver. You can see Haukur by the piano in the song „From now on“

I absolutely adore this song. I hope they will do well live. I haven‘t been following the bands „Rökkurró“ or „For minor reflection“ which Sunday consists of, but I have heard of them for sure and they are very talented musicians. The singer comes from Rökkurró (Hildur Kristín Stefánsdóttir) and the guitarist comes from „For minor reflection“ (Guđfinnur Sveinsson). This is the only song that I think would do well in Icelandic. This song is not so much about the lyrics (more lyrical, than having any one meaning, but much more about mystic, electronica and indie. I love it. I always liked Jeff Who? And Bjarni Lárus Hall was the singer of the group. They haven‘t puplished a song for a long while now, but according to Bjarni, this is a song that was written while they were still active and they thought it was too good to be hidden in someone‘s drawer. I agree with them. This is a typical Jeff Who song and I think the chorus is addictive. The Icelandic lyrics are just so and so but I am sure they are a quick translation from english lyrics. Bjarni said that his band will be with him on stage. This is their most popular song:

Sunday is the best song in this national final. I think it's the kind of songs Iceland should send every year. It can be my #1 in my ESC top, if it wins.

I don't hate it but it's far too twee for my tastes. I wouldn't have called it quirky. It's just a simple little guitar ballad with a soft vocal. It doesn't excite, move or charm me.

It's a great song, my number 3 for ::is and if it would win it would already compete for the number 1 position of my final top. The song is guided and carried by that lovely piano play, which keeps finding it's way back into the song. At the same time the song is building up in strength and tempo with a great finish. Awesome song!

I so agree with you. It has me hooked and I am hoping that it will win the contest. ;)

I thought that he would be alone on stage, sitting by a piano, but looking at the pic, I think the writer of the song (Karl Olgeirsson) will be on the piano, the two girls on some sort of bongo drums and the other guy on drums.

OK, I agree with you, they must be part of the backing vocals  But when listening very closely, I think I hear a male vocalist, so possibly 2 backing vocalist (male and female) and then maybe a dancer....:p I'm guessing the young girl up front is the one you are referring to as a possible dancer?

I love Augnablik too, the best ballad of the bunch, and Stefanía is a fantastic singer. Even if I am hoping that either Haukur Heiđar or Sunday will win this, I would be happy if she won.:) Like Halldór said, it depends a lot on the stage performances and if she delivers, and I have no doubt that she will, she could very possibly be a strong contender. BUT Haukur's and Sunday's songs have a slight advantage IMO.;)

It is always risky to be alone on stage. You need to have a very strong stage presence for it to work especially with a ballad like this. If he can deliver it in a sincere way and if the camera work is good, then it could be an advantage. But it could also crash and burn.:)

Didn't see the live performances, but I like all of the songs that got through a lot. The Icelandic selection is definetly very charming and strong, I'm in love with it to the moon and back and I'm not even kidding.. Every single one of the songs should be at Eurovision besides maybe Stefania and I would be very happy. Don't understand a word, but I'm humming and swaying along to every song. And I don't understand why Icelandic people have so freaking pleasant voices. Elín is amazing though!!! xlove Definetly my favourite out of the selection. So lovely. I would like to know what it talks about.. From the second semi.. I don't even know which songs should get through, they are all amazing.. But I love Fjađrir, Fyrir alla, Brotiđ gler and Aldrei of seint the most. The first time I heard Milljón augnablik I thought, well this is definetly Icelandic, because it reminds me of Sigur Rós/Jónsi quite a bit.. I like that one as well. :D

I was in the audience and I have to say that HINEMOA, Elín Sif and Björn og félagar should have qualified, the other's just didn't sing well, no offence to anyone who loves those songs, but we chose almost perfectly, we just had to throw Friđrik out and put HINEMOA in. Sunday could be Eurovision savers for me. I'm very happy to hear that they have advanced and am looking forward to seeing the performance when someone uploads it. Basically Sunday, Passed, Opera Skaala.... save me. Pleasexpray

I was really happy with this wildcard and I loved that Sunday got through. I think that they will win the whole thing....

I thought it was between Elin and Maria. But yaaay even better if it's Sunday! :D At first I only liked the song, but that live performance convinced me tonight. :D

It was beyond epic, her vocal skills are perfect. I got chills when they performed. xheart

Excellent, it's such a wonderful song. There were a few from this selection I enjoyed (although I can't remember the names) but Sunday's song was easily the best one. Such a wonderful piece of synthpop. It's when the music suddenly goes up a notch in the middle that gets mexheat

Really happy Sunday and Cadem qualified. They were my favourites from the second semi. Almost all of the songs in the final are amazing. Still hoping Elín wins though. :)

Exactly the build-up is so well done. It took me a while to get it, but I'm glad I got all the pieces together. :D

I like Elin and Friđrik's songs quite a lot but I will be so mad at Iceland if they don't choose Sunday. That song is magical xheart

Iceland should go with Sunday or stay at home.

Sunday's performancexheat absolutely incredible! I got shivers as well. If this is picked, it would literally eat every single other song selected so far for breakfast. It's in another league. The one small thing i'd say would be to perhaps ditch the dancer. The song doesn't need her flapping about like a ballerina, it's distracting and doesn't enhance the piece in any kind of way.

There was a good quality version of this song on youtube after all

Fjađrir sounded great, but I wasn't impressed with the staging. The blue glow and white outfits seem a bit same-old as far as ESC visuals go, I would like something darker and more intimidating.

This was very predictable, I was sure that the qualifiers we're going to be 3 the four that qualified tonight and the fourth one would get the wildcard, I'm almost 100% happy about the finals, the 2nd semi really made the finals interesting. Hope the winner will be one of them, especially SUNDAY.

Not really, didn't do well and was such a cliché.

To our Icelandic members, what is the word on the ground? Does Sunday have a legit shot at winning this?

"Fjađrir" has suddenly become my jam to the point where I think it's my favorite (although "Litil skref" is still up there).

Now that Regina's out, I would really go on with Sunday. I don't like any of the other entries. Plus, Iceland should present itself at the 60th ESC for what it's best known in the music scene, that is beautiful and strange experimental songs and vocals. I think it's time to let some "pop" apart.
