But whatever, there's always next year, and I hope a first win from a country that hasn't won yet :)

I see a bright future in Eurovision for Central and Western Europe, including Hungary of course. Keep on sending great music and we will soon land in lovely Budapest!

The reason why I believe this is, that under the current jury system, Northern and Eastern Europe are punishing each other hard, which opens a big windows of opportunity for the rest if Europe. Look where Austria, Netherlands, Hungary, Poland and Switzerland already ended up this year! Massive success for the formerly ignored countries!

Since 2011, Hungary always send a radio-friendly song. Some of them was good (especially at last contest). In my opinion, András deserved to won and bring Grand Prix to his country. So, I hope that they will again send a very good entry, and finally we will see Hungarian victory ;)

Hungary: First 10 participants of A Dal revealed http://www.escunited.com/home/hungary-first-10-participants-of-a-dal-revealed/

http://www.escunited.com/home/wp-content/uploads/2014/12/hungary.jpg (http://www.escunited.com/home/wp-content/uploads/2014/12/hungary.jpg)

A couple of minutes ago A Dal revealed the first 10 acts (out of 30) that will compete in Hungary’s National Final.*The result of A Dal will be determined with the help of 5 jury members,*Philip Rakay, Jeno Csiszar, Magdi Rúzsa, Pierrot and*televoting. The audience will be able to vote via an app where you can give the acts 1-10 points which later will be counted all together as one “jury member”.*In each heat 5 songs will be chosen by the jury and*a 6th song will be chosen with the help of the voting app + sms votes.*The rest of the preselection process is yet to be announced.

The first 10 acts are as follows:

Chances*– The Night
Boggie*– Wars For Nothing
Bogi*– World Of Violence
Balázs Farkas-Jenser*– Liar
Karmapolis*– The Time Is Now
MDC*– Maniac
Barbara Peter-Barbie*– Listen To The Universe
Spoon*– Keep Marching On
Saci & Bobe Szécsi*– Our Time
Vera Toth*– Gyemant

Another 20 acts will be revealed later in the week (wednesday and friday). You can already listen to a small clip of the 10 revealed acts*here (https://www.facebook.com/eurovisionhungary). In Copenhagen*András Kállay-Saunders was able to bring home Hungary a 5th place, discuss here (http://www.escunited.com/t11935-4/) if you think they will be able to beat that in Vienna next year.

Wow, we have our first "riding on the waves of the winner from the year before" entry from Bogi. I actually think the song is really weak sauce.

Oh and we've another, 'Gyemant' sounds Bond-ish in parts but there's more to it also. This is actually quite nice. A few turns to it I wasn't expecting. Has much more quality to it than Bogi's song which sounds a bit cheap by comparison. Neither girl has a particularly special voice though.

'Wars For Nothing' is ok I suppose. Very standard pop folk. I'm not keen.

'Time Is Now' is ok as well. Not particularly exciting synth pop/rock by any stretch of the imagination.

ParadiseES
9th December 2014, 00:35
I agree Bogi's is the best song out of those 10, but it's still the least bland out of an incredibly bland selection. Chances - The night is kinda interesting too. That's all. Let's pray for the other 2/3 of the NF.

What's the similarity between "World of violence" and "Rise like a phoenix". I honestly see nothing in common between both songs. I do see some similarities with the previous Hungarian entry though.

It sounds like a Bond song once it gets going. Conchita won with a Bond inspired song. "World Of Violence" is not a copy of "Rise Like A Phoenix", sounds nothing like it in fact. It just has a very specific British sound with the brass band. It's cheaply produced though and it goes absolutely nowhere.

A very generic list so far but a decent standard. All isnt lost though.Maybe Honeybeast will be in the ones to come and slay all these boring songs.Mrm and me demand it8-)
I have high hopes for Hungary this year. They are getting closer and are running great selection shows. They need the same sort of production quality mixed with a stand out song.

Bogi sure ain't bad, but I actually prefer Vera Toth :D Though it's hard to base an opinion on a sniplet, Spoon seems nice as well.. Sounds quite promising in general..?
Well, at least better than what we've heard so far from the other countries ;)

10th December 2014, 01:12
Every year i'm suprised that ::hu is sending a good song again. I think this is the best list of all pre selections so far. I think the 3 songs that stand out the most for me are:

1. Chances - The Night: Has a strong hipster glow about it, lets only hope its just as good as Kedvesem but totally different
2. Karmapolis - Time is Now: Has a nice vibe, but i'm afraid it could get too repetitive after multiple listens
3. Boggie - Wars for nothing: The topic and lyrics are so generic i could fall asleep, but i really love the guitar and it sound she can sing really really good.

The rest of the songs are average to decent, but there is a big possible that most people here will jump on the "Bogi" wagon because that is as typical Eurovision a song can get. ;)

10th December 2014, 01:20
Tóth Vera - "Gyémánt" is WONDERFUL, the first 10/10 for me this season!! xlove xheart

Then based on snippets I think I will love:

Saci & Bobe Szécsi – "Our time"
Balázs Farkas-Jenser – "Liar"
Bogi – "World of violence"
Chances – "The night"

Katona Szombori Eva has synthpop entry, based on snippet!!

Yeah but I really don't like that style of singing and the feel of the song. It sounds so common. I hear that sound absolutely everywhere. It annoys me to be honest.

I love either real dark, gritty, warped synth pop like the German band And One (who i've been listening to like crazy all week actually) or I like something with a very clear, infectious pop melody, still with an undertone of melancholy. EKO in this years Melodifestivalen were fantastic, and MarieMarie as you know, we both loved. "Candy Jar" was the best song that never made it to Eurovision last year (equal with "Via Lattea")

Something like this and i'd go crazy for it.. It helps if it's sung by a charismatic, deep voiced, sexy german man with a penchant for suits/waistcoatsxheat

I'm happy you like it. Yes, their music is very infectious. It's a rich, full synth sound. I think that's important with this kind of music that the sound is constant, full on. Pop music at the moment is all about synths but none of it for me touches on the feeling that many established synth pop bands and artists create. A special kind of voice suits this music as well.

Germany is actually quite well known for it's synth bands. There have been plenty of influential bands from the country.

After listening to all the songs (even just in parts) I'm still rooting for Kati Wolf! That melody got me from the first listening. Plus, it's a ballad so she will be able to pull it better off vocally. I just came across the English version of her song. Really hoping for Hazad Hazam Lehet to surprise with a win here... it's not the type of music I usually go for, but something about it just feels really genuine and warm. Other than that, I guess Homelights or World of Violence would be good entries too? I get the feeling they might also have a bit more of a chance. Kati Wolf's song is nice, but I'm not sure it's impressive enough to make her deserving of a second chance at Eurovision, and if she got a low position with a better song in 2011 I don't think a return would get her a great score.

It's at least looking like the favourite at the moment, right? I haven't seen a poll for A Dal in the last couple of weeks, but I know Bogi was somewhere in the top 3 last time I looked, and pairing that with the release of a fitting music video shortly before the contest starts, I'm getting Running vibes from last year.

EDIT: She's currently coming second on Wiwibloggs' poll, with 12.6% of the vote, behind Kati Wolf's song (which has 16.9%). I'd expect that a good lot of Kati's votes are just from fans of her 2011 entry, though, and I'm not sure that'd be as large a factor in Hungary as a whole when compared to Eurovision fans. At least, I hope that's the case - while I like Kati's song, and it wouldn't be last in my Eurovision song rankings so far, it doesn't deserve to win over some of the better songs in A Dal this year. Continuing on from last year, Hungary has a lot of good songs to choose from, and I hope they also continue in choosing the best of a good bunch.

Exactly! I was about to get nervous with the hype that seems to rise around her, but luckily I'm not the only one who's not impressed. To me it sounds like some random background music you'd hear in a café or elevator.

Poor girl! xcry She had a killer song last year, that was so instant and catchy, that I think it could've done even better than "Running". They should have picked her then, definitely not now imo.

3. Lojetek Fel (juries will burn this one down, same as last year with another metalband)

I think there is a huge difference between Leander Rising and the hard rock band from last year -Depresszio.
The latter is a typical old style hard rock band and Leander Rising as much more modern and melodic at the same time.
Moreover the lead singer is a great vocalist.

RainyWoods
24th January 2015, 21:15
The vocal is part of the charm for me of Passed. The girl was raw in the studio version also. As nofuxCZ pointed out, not everything has to be pitch perfect. I really enjoyed her vocal. It didn't bother me that she wasn't on key perfectly. I thought she was really charming and I love the song. It sounds like something AlunaGeorge might put out.

That's kind of sad. From that I gathered the red haired girl got the highest public vote tonight? But she's missed out because of the jury? I didn't like the song but it was better than most of the others.

RainyWoods
24th January 2015, 21:55
Apart from Passed, I think Vera's song was the only other one that caught my attention from the studio versions. It's quite a clear cut above the other songs tonight (excluding "Mesmerise" which I think is brilliant). I'm unsure if I love it but I think it's certainly good and has quality to it.

In the first round of voting, five qualifiers will be determined by the combination of scores from each judge and an aggregate score from a public voting mobile app. In the second round of voting, the remaining five entries that were not in the initial top five will then face a SMS and mobile app vote in order to determine one additional qualifier.

Overall, I'm happy cos my top 4 made it but also the 2 ones I didn't like were in the top 2. :( Here's my top 10 and scores:

1. Karmapolis - "Time Is Now" - 8/10 (great tune, a bit shaky vocals)
2. Bogi Dallos - "World of Violence" - 8/10 (OK song, strong performance)
3. Gabi Szűcs - "Úgysem felejtesz el" - 7/10 (funny song, strange performance)
4. Timi Antal - "Woke Up This Way" - 7/10 (energetic tune, good vocals)
5. Bori Magyar - "Lead Me to Heaven" - 6/10 (might have been my favourite composition, but she destroyed it with poor vocals)
6. MDC - "Maniac" - 6/10 (nice but bland)
7. Balázs Farkas-Jenser - "Liar" - 5/10 (similar to "Kedvesem" but very repetitive)
8. Vera Tóth - "Gyémánt" - 5/10 (cliché song and the performance wasn't amazing, either)
9. Passed - "Mesmerize" - 4/10 (it might be the most unique, but I find it completely random and the vocals were horrible)
10. Gergő Szakács - "Ősz utca" - 4/10 (another of my pre-faves but the vocals ruined this one, too)

I'm so happy that Passed won this first heat. It was completely with the help of the jury though. The public didn't get behind them which was a shame but I have a feeling their support could grow. I think it's by far the most interesting song here. I find the girl who sings the song to be so charming. They're an awkward kind of cool and I quite like that. I enjoy the fact her pitch is all over the place. It doesn't offend my ears. It makes for an interesting listen. The production has a very home feel to it and her vocals just add to the overall vibe of the song. I loved this song from the very first moment I watched the very lo-fi official video of it were the band where walking around the streets singing it. I haven't enjoyed Hungary's past few entries (especially the last two) but "Mesmerise" would get me on board, and it would become my number 1 of the year.

"Mesmerize" is an interesting song and for a sec i thought "hmmmm why didn't i download this?", then i did and after lilstening to it for the first 15 seconds i was like "Oh yeah now i remember why..." and deleted it.

Honestly, the singer ruins the whole song, even in a studio version. It's so much worse live, of course, not only that the singer has no grasp of what tone and octaves are, she doesn't even know that such thing as notes exists and that you gotta hit them somehow to sound pleasent.
I'm not even mentioning her plastic face highlighted by endless boredom :?
