EBU annulliert georgische Jurywertung wegen Betrugsverdacht | Eurovision Song Contest Kopenhagen 2014 (http://blog.prinz.de/grand-prix/ebu-annulliert-georgische-jurywertung-wegen-verdacht-auf-betrug/)

Theres speculation that Georgia could get that three year ban from eurovision, because of the jury voting. All members of the Jury had the exactly same order for the top 8 which is statistically very unlikely, so in the final only the televote was used.

I have a feeling that Georgia won't be there in 2015, either being banned (which I hope not..stupid!) or withdrawing (most likely). There were rumblings in the water about withdrawing if they didn't qualify, and they came last!

EBU would be hypocrites banning Georgia and let other broadcasters go by without even warnings after how their juries operated.

As for Georgia withdrawing based on supposed bad positions, well they've been sending crap so how about start sending GOOD stuff??

You are not serious? I am incredibly shocked that they have not been given that 3 year ban. It's evident that foul play was at work. The EBU are complete hypocrites for letting them stay after making such a serious statement about cheating at the beginning of the year. Isn't September a bit early to announce an entry? :? 8 months before the actual show. If the song is announced as well I hope it isn't a rushed job to get a song.

I am happy that EBU didn't disqualify them. The part of the news about the entry - will we get the song or just the artist's name and the title of the song? If it's just the title it's ok with me, but if it's the whole song we can hear, it'll be too early.

If Georgia were to be given a ban and other countries were to get off scot-free, that would have been incredibly aggravating. Georgia were the scapegoat this year. An easy target. There are other countries clearly playing just as dirty, if not more so.

I hope they have learnt their lesson. I have a feeling other countries will continue their rigged votes though as they have actually got away with it.

AshleyWright
12th August 2014, 17:02
I really think to prevent this foul play the voting method should be changed back. While listing songs 1 - 25/26 helps decrease the effects of diaspora votes it has opened it up to foul play such as we saw in Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus etc. I supported the new voting method but what countries are doing, then I think the old ranking 1-10 method should come back.

If that's so, then from the 2014 contest we should ban atleast a handful of countries already... oh an don't get me started on Azerbaijan and the bought juries in Malta

Atleast EBU is being consistent in not following their own rules  , banning Georgia would be hypocrisy if they allowed far worse things in the past.

However, I hope EBU finally start to pay respect to their own rules, otherwise the credibility from the contest will be long gone (it's already low).

AshleyWright
16th August 2014, 00:09
That's probably why they won't ban them. Because it would result in a huge chunk of countries having to be banned, just to stay credibly. Probably every country has been "vote cheating" in some way or another at some point. Just this year we got to who did it in 2014.

Georgia's jury was the only one disqualified so the ban would be justified. So there wouldn't have to ban other countries!

Montenegro and Azerbaijan had questionable votes but since they were not identical, it is very difficult to prove any wrong doing. I think if there was a pattern, meaning they will have a similar situation with votes being close to one another I can see that becoming a problem and justification to take further actions.

Schlagerman1
18th August 2014, 15:30
I don't understand why Georgia should be banned just cause their jury was biased? A whole country should not be punished just cause 5 idiots was talking about how they were going to vote and influenced each other a bit too much...Just ban the jurors for never being in the jury again and give Georgia a warning of not letting this happen again is more than enough. Hoping for a great Georgian entry this time, would like to see them do well. :)

Considering EBU didn't care about cheating in the past *ehm Azerbaijan*, and considering they are ok with the cheating of other jury groups... it would be a bit hypocritical to act just now.

On the other hand EBU should start act SOME TIME, but then they have to be fair by doing so and not cherry pick countries.

Agreed. But it was quite obvious this time compared to most other cases in the past, and there has been a specific warning before this years contest. So it wouldn't have been a random pick....

I like this one a lot! Who are they though? I see no Misha Sulukhia on the list of participants.

Music snob alert

It's actually quite a nice small selection of artists. At this moment in time i'd prefer Eter Beriashvili over Nina Sublatti. Jeffreeh sent me one of Nina's songs on lastfm last night. I see promise there but she didn't pull me in. This should be my style of music as well as I live for dark artists like Soap&Skin and Nico. I feel Nina has a powerful but ultimately thin voice, no depth to it, just loud and empty feeling. I dislike that style of voice, where it's all about what you hit rather than what feeling comes with the notes you hit.

If she can come up with something like this, then welcome aboard my hype train:rolleyes:

Georgia: Who is in the national final? http://www.escunited.com/home/georgi...ational-final/ (http://www.escunited.com/home/georgia-who-is-in-the-national-final/)

http://www.escunited.com/home/wp-content/uploads/2014/12/georgia.jpg (http://www.escunited.com/home/wp-content/uploads/2014/12/georgia.jpg) Georgia will decide on January 14, 2015 from five acts.
The Caucasian country of Georgia and their broadcaster GPB have announced the five artists set to take part in the national final on January 14th.
The songs from each of the candidates will be presented on New Year’s Eve (December 31st) and the winner will be chosen on January 14th through a 50/50 combination of an international jury and televoting.
The five artists vying to represent Georgia are;

Misha Sulukhia
Nina Sublati
Eter Beriashvili
Niutone
Edvard Meison

As a result, it will be another Sopho-less year for Georgia, unless one of the members of Niutone will keep up tradition!
Georgia has some pride to save after finishing last in the semi-final in 2014. The Shin & Mariko’s ethnic-inspired jazz entry “Three Minutes to Earth” failed to qualify for the final in Copenhagen. Furthermore, the country was accused of trying to rig the votes (http://www.escunited.com/home/no-disqualification-for-georgia-entry-announcement-in-september/) using their jury before being controversially cleared by the EBU (http://www.escunited.com/home/the-ebus-insufficient-response-to-the-georgian-jury-vote/).

Taa ahhh paaaaaa NOW EXCUSE ME one moment.. but the 2014 Georgian entry was their greatest of all time. Will we ever get such an experimental jazz fusion at Eurovision again? Probably not as they came last. Looks like we'll have to put up with a million Elhaida Dani's for the foreseeable future. That's disappointing to hear. With certain countries and age brackets it's expected though sadly, hopefully with time things will change. I expected better of them though as their music was so free and they sort of had a hippy spirit to them. A shame they are not as open as their music.

Listening to some material from the artists now.

Misha Sulukhia needs to sing something in Georgian, his pronounciation in English from what I can hear is pretty terrible.
Nina Sublati seems like she might have a quirky or alternative song so I'm keen to hear her entry, same with Eter Beriashvili (if she's the one from The Voice Russia)
Edvard Meison sounds terrible, not holding out much hope there.

So, let's review this :D

1-Nina Sublati "Warrior" - Yeeeeeeeah! I love this! Only she can continue the tradition of ::ge always sending songs that i love :p
2-Niuton - Run Aaway - Nice,but not great
3-Edvard Meisoni - We are freeee - Just crap, nothing special
4-Misha Sulukhia "One & Only" - Boring
5-Eter Beriashvili "If Someone" - This is torture! Dead last!

RainyWoods

Eter Beriashvili - If Someone Nothing like an overwrought call to god. Why god, why? This is the ultimate prayer as well. Wouldn't be surprised if her dress lifted her off to the skies above to meet the man himself, he'll be so impressed. "If someone's up there, please manifest yourself. Give a sign"xcry1

Edvard Meisoni - We are freeee Heard this a million times. Ok-ish, doesn't offended me as much as other songs of it's genre. Still unexciting though.

Niuton - Run Aaway This is the most interesting song here. I can't understand a word she's singing though.

Nina Sublat - Warrior The song is an absolute racket, I really don't like her voice. The whole thing only gets interesting at the bridge. The rest is just not enjoyable for me. Really don't like it. Perhaps the quality of the video doesn't help though..

Misha Sulukhia - one&only So hammy and over the top, and that Englishxrofl

Of the five here, i'd like Eter to win. I need one song that I can ironically worship each year and fuss over:rolleyes: Would be interested to see how Niuton's song develops as well. It's kind of groovy and would be a one of a kind at the contest. The other three songs aren't great.

That's a very good idea. Our avatars should have been enough to secure Lindita's win but the Albanian jury never saw them and we didn't go viral with them.

I'm sorry to say also, but I think the size of your avatar played a part in Lindita's defeat. It just wasn't big enough. To increase the size however, you have to hand over gold to ESCUNITED. We are no longer materialistic people though. I've just set fire to my money and hope that you and others will do the same. I don't need.. If Someone

This is the ultimate prayer
Of how I see the world lately
It's getting worse by the minute
Really worse as I cry
And my faith is also dying

If someone's up there
Would it be unfair
To ask you for a sign
Incase you care
For how long we have
To bare all this weight
Up on our shoulders
Not knowing why
If someone's there
If someone's up there
Please manifest yourself
Give a sign

Say how many disasters
Worse than illness must we wait for
What if you might be fierce
Far from in this life
Give me a reason why to fight for

If someone's up there
Would it be unfair
To ask you for a sign
Incase you care
For how long we have
To bare all this weight
Up on our shoulders
Not knowing why
If someone's there
If someone's up there
Show that you can cry
For the pain of the child

To ask you for a sign
Incase you care
For how long we have
To bare all this weight
Up on our shoulders
Not knowing why
If someone's there
If someone's up there

Please manifest yourself
This is the ultimate prayer
Just incase that you care.

Listening to the Georgian songs right now. My first impressions:

Misha Solukhia - One & only
Wow this is veeeeery bad. What a messy song that goes nowhere and what an uncharismatic singer.

Nina Sublat - Warrior
Heeey we already have one warrior this year! Maltese warrior is much better song IMO, but this is at least acceptable, much better than the previous song. The best is how she delivers though, more than the song itself. She's great.

Eter Beriashvili - If someone
Typical inoffensive ballad. There's not much to say about this song and I doubt someone could remember this song 5 minutes after listening. Not gonna comment on her dress...haha

Niuton - Run away
What a piece of crap, This looks like another band performing after smoking weed (like last year, with the difference that Mariko and her band made some kinda interesting music, unlike this song).

Edvard Meison - We are free
I kinda like song, but I don't like him AT ALL. For some reason, this doesn't work.

So it seems this will be another tough year for Georgia. They better send the Warrior 2.0. It's the only package which can have some potential.

PamSwynford

I actually like Warrior a lot, especially all the details that keep it picking up momentum almost to the end. It would sound awesome if it got a revamp with really thick, echoey production (and maybe a more varied final 30 seconds, but that's my only complaint about it now.) The bigger and more chaotic, the better. And Nina's brash delivery is great, she'll stand out. She is the most powerful warrior, not sorry I'm not sorry. ;)

If Georgia pick their Warrior it would beat Malta's Warrior for me. I'd go further and say it would be the best song so far. With a big production behind it, Georgia could have a good entry.

I fear that Eter will win instead. There have been worse syrupy ballads at Eurovision, but I still find it very dull and generic.

I'm not so sure about Eter's win. Andy from ESCkaz wrote this:

Oh! Eteri from Georgian final got song by Rafael Artesero earlier performed by Diana Gromova in Belarus audition

"If someone" - Even nice ballad with IMO proper presentation. Maybe it will grow up in me, but anyway it's my favourite there.
"We are freeee" - It started promising, but later I thought "WTF? What is this? "Euphoria vol. 28759153?" I'm not convinced.
"Run away" - Quite weird and chaotic entry. Not my cup of tea and rather it wouldn't do well in Vienna.
"Warrior" - The most interesting from among these five. But except it, nothing really. Definitely not better than Maltese one :p
"one&only" - I think that it's just a unsuccessful try to make a exalted ballad. Something is missing there.

Now I'm sure that Georgia won't make a Top 10 this year. Maybe they'll choose "If someone" and do a good revamp, but IMO it's still unlikely to end contest on a high place.

No song really stands out for me, but "We are free" is my favorite, at least a decent pop song.
But all of the candidates are better than last year´s entry from Georgia.

''We are free'' is my favourite, ''Warrior'' is my second, but I am not fan of it :(
What a mess ''Run Away'' is!! :o It litreally hasn't any catchy/memorable part, just some random sentences without melody.
But my least favourite is ''If Someone''. I hoped for much more from Eter than Belarus reject by ''Mother'' author :?

Nah, this wasn't such a strong bunch from Georgia this time. :( I don't know who I prefer or think is the worst, they all have their advantages and disadvantages. Mishas ballad is out of the question directly, despite having a decent melody. Nina is a really strong artist, but the song ain't perfect, but it is indeed the most modern one. Eter's is such a classic Eurovision-peace-ballad, but almost too classic for my taste. Niutone was the ones I hoped the most for when I read the names for the NF, but their jazzy-no doubtish song didn't work at all for me, too far away from suitible to ESC I am afraid. :( And the last song from Edvard is a classic pop-schlagerish song, that can qualify to the final.

Now listening a 2nd time, I have to say that the only one that is growing is Ninas "Warrior"...that song could have a cool performance in Vienna...and as some of you say, might outshine the Maltese one pretty much...

Unfortunately after listening to them all again, I've decided i'm not a particular fan on them all. After the innitial shock with Eteri's song, I seemed to have drifted from it rather quickly. None of the selection is amazing but Nina and Eteri are definitely a cut above the rest. I still seem to lack interest in Nina's song and I don't really see the big fuss over it. I doubt any would give Georgia a top 10.

I think Nina's song has enormous potential... it may need rearranging and revamping, but it's modern and contemporary! The staging possibilities are endless too, and if they present it suitably I can see this song snatching a top 15 or even a top 10 position :D

I think "Warrior" is the only song that is getting a passing grade. And with that I mean it's the only song who won't be last in my new top. I agree it's better than the ::mt version. The songs are about equal, but with Nina Sublati I actually believe she is a "warrior" instead of that screamy attempt Amber makes to make her look tough.
I'm also afraid that "Eter" might win which is an incredible "meh" song and all the other songs are just pure garbage.

I'm not really sure about Georgia this year. I suppose Warrior should win because it is the only one which could do something good in Vienna if revamped and all that. Niutone would have been a fine option as well if only their song was a little bit better.

Ok. Now I find "Warrior" really addictive. Listen to it at least once per day. It's gonna win.

That girl has similar voice to Amber's, same song's title (it's 3:30, while re-arrangement maybe they change the name) and one more thing..

the worst for me is Niutone - Run away... Another song from Georgia where you have the impression, that it's not tuned properly....

You love her outfit too!? I agree, what a legendary outfit. The dress alone should get her the win as it is an incredible look. Really makes her stand out. The fact the song is sensational as well is the cherry on the cake. Georgian megastar, inspiring look, poignant song. Eteri the fan favourite for the win!

It's soooo much better! But of course they'll have to change the title, it won't be hard to do.
I'd change it to "Fighter", "In my mind" or "Too long".

I wonder how the final will look like. They have only 5 songs to pick from. What are they going to do? 100 intervla acts?

The competing songs are nothing special, only Warrior is OKish, though Maltese one is better. Don't see Georgia placing high or even qualifying..

::1 Nina Sublati - Warrior
::2 Misha Sulukhia - One and Only
::3 Eter Beriashvili - If Someone
::4 Edvard Meison - We Are Freeeee
::5 Niutone - Run Away

That's not a big deal. Our NF in 2013 had 5 songs as well but it still lasted for more than an hour overall with interval acts, voting time, interviews with the contestants and report about the upcoming ESC. :p

Why would this be a problem?

It's a contest. Everyone should be able to chose the title, he/she finds the best. If they chose "Warrior" initially, they had a reason for it. It would be unfair to demand a change just because there is another song with the same title. That one and all the others may have an advantage and (which is more important) such a demand would violate artistic freedom.
And by the way, we already had editions were song titles were quite similar.

Yeah yeah yeah.
Nobody says it has be be a demand, no way. Artists are free to name their songs whatever the heck they want but if i was an artist i wouldn't love the idea of singing a song named exactly like another song in a contest. Nina can easily change the title cause lyrics suggest a few options while Amber's song cannot be named anything else but Warrior, there are not too many options in the lyrics. "Never look back"? "The past is the past"? "In the shadow"? Ummm i don't know.

Anyway, as a fan i really hate the idea of having this type of dialogue:

- Hey, do you like Warrior??
- Which one?
- From Malta
- Ah, this one...

IT SUCKS!
