BREAKING BENJAMIN
THE DIARY OF JANE

http://i.imgur.com/8Np4Dsr.jpg

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HJnkYg4kXEw

"The Diary Of Jane"

If I had to
I would put myself right beside you
So let me ask
Would you like that?
Would you like that?

And I don't mind
If you say this love is the last time
So now I'll ask
Do you like that?
Do you like that?

No!

Something's getting in the way.
Something's just about to break.
I will try to find my place in the diary of Jane.
So tell me how it should be.

Try to find out what makes you tick.
As I lie down
Sore and sick.
Do you like that?
Do you like that?

There's a fine line between love and hate.
And I don't mind.
Just let me say that
I like that
I like that

Something's getting in the way.
Something's just about to break.
I will try to find my place in the diary of Jane.
As I burn another page,
As I look the other way.
I still try to find my place in the diary of Jane.
So tell me how it should be.

Desperate, I will crawl
Waiting for so long
No love, there is no love.
Die for anyone
What have I become?

Something's getting in the way.
Something's just about to break.
I will try to find my place in the diary of Jane.
As I burn another page,
As I look the other way.
I still try to find my place in the diary of Jane.

"Song For Zula"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZPxQYhGpdvg

Some say love is a burning thing
That it makes a fiery ring
Oh but I know love as a fading thing
Just as fickle as a feather in a stream
See, honey, I saw love. You see, it came to me
It put its face up to my face so I could see
Yeah then I saw love disfigure me
Into something I am not recognizing

See, the cage, it called. I said, “Come on in”
I will not open myself up this way again
Nor lay my face to the soil, nor my teeth to the sand
I will not lay like this for days now upon end
You will not see me fall, nor see me struggle to stand
To be acknowledge by some touch from his gnarled hands
You see, the cage, it called. I said, “Come on in”
I will not open myself up this way again

You see, the moon is bright in that treetop night
I see the shadows that we cast in the cold, clean light
My feet are gold. My heart is white
And we race out on the desert plains all night
See, honey, I am not some broken thing
I do not lay here in the dark waiting for thee
No my heart is gold. My feet are light
And I am racing out on the desert plains all night

So some say love is a burning thing
That it makes a fiery ring
Oh but I know love as a caging thing
Just a killer come to call from some awful dream
O and all you folks, you come to see
You just stand there in the glass looking at me
But my heart is wild. And my bones are steam
And I could kill you with my bare hands if I was free

Our delegation want to thank you for all your support! You know, it's a bit sad to leave, we had a lot of fun with ::neus, there was a victory and two top10's. But now it's time to move on and try something new!

The East is calling me! Hope you'll enjoy my Indonesian entries. :D

Northeastern United States' Artist for WorldVision 46 Announced

http://data3.whicdn.com/images/10874938/original.png

Following several weeks of speculation, National Public Radio (NPR) has announced the artist who will represent the Northeastern United States in its return to WorldVision. After careful deliberation, and several proposals from various NPR member stations, the bid from Philadelphia's member station, WHYY-FM, won out among NPR's deliberation committee.

While the full list of proposed artists and songs, as well as of the member stations which submitted bids for WorldVision 46, was not revealed, NPR did state that the proposal from New York City-based station WNYC had come a close second in the deliberation committee's rankings, and that there was a high likelihood that their bid would represent the region in WorldVision 47.

The chosen artist, hailing from a suburb of Philadelphia, was revealed to be none other than Christina Perri. The chanteuse has released two top-5 charting albums, Lovestrong (2011) and Head or Heart (2014), as well as several charting singles such as "Jar of Hearts", "A Thousand Years", and "Human". At the press conference this morning, NPR revealed that they were not in a position to reveal the entry Perri will represent the Northeastern United States with, only stating that they were "pursuing several options at the given moment".

Aditya
30th April 2015, 09:00
As a note, this will probably be the biggest (and most scorewhory) entry that I will send to this contest; I really like Christina Perri, which has made the large success (especially in YouTube view counts) of her singles problematic with regards to song contests. :P

Beginning with WV 47 and onwards, I suppose I'll return to my more usual (indie) pop music tastes. :) Eagle-eyed forum members might have noticed that I changed my original announced artist to Perri; that artist will be present for WV 47. ;)

Northeastern United States' Artist for WorldVision 47 Announced

http://www.sologilando.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/paul-simon-and-art-garfunkel.jpg

Following Christina Perri's qualification and 16th place in Reykjavνk, National Public Radio (NPR) has announced the results of the internal selection for the artist who will follow in Perri's footsteps and represent the Northeastern United States in WorldVision 47, to be held in Hennef, Germany.

Similar to last edition, the internal selection was closely contested, with highly competitive entries submitted by member stations from New York City, Boston, and Philadelphia. After weeks of deliberation, NPR finally chose one of New York City member station WNYC's three bids as the region's reperesentative for WorldVision 47: they chose Simon & Garfunkel.

Simon & Garfunkel was an American folk duo consisting of Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel. Based out of Queens in New York City, the duo was one of the most popular artists of the 1960's in the United States, with such big hits as "The Sound of Silence" (1964), "Mrs. Robinson" (1968), and "Bridge over Troubled Water" (1969). Before breaking up in 1970, the duo released their final, most successful album, Bridge over Troubled Water, which is one of the most successful albums of all time, with about 25 million copies sold.

While the winning song will not be revealed until the contest begins, NPR invites all to comment on this entry choice, as well as to suggest any potential entries you would like to see from the Northeastern United States in the future!

Northeastern United States' Artist for WorldVision 55 Announced

http://res.cloudinary.com/bombmagazine/image/upload/q_50/v1412025058/sufjan10crop_body.jpg

Following several editions of absence, National Public Radio (NPR) has announced the results of the internal selection for the artist who will bring the Northeastern United States back to WorldVision, to be held in Bremen, Germany.

NPR's New York City's member stations have been very successful in terms of submitting bids for WorldVision entries, and as such NPR turned to them to choose an entrant to properly return the Northeastern United States to the contest. After weeks of deliberation, NPR finally chose one of New York City member station WNYC's two final bids as the region's reperesentative for WorldVision 55: they chose Sufjan Stevens.

Sufjan Stevens, who first came to wider recognition with the 2000 album, A Sun Came, and further recognition from his 2005 album Illinois, is a multitalented, multi genre American artist originally hailing from Detroit, Michigan (just like me :D). His eligibility for the Northeastern United States stems from his current residence: Kensington, Brooklyn.

While the winning song will not be revealed until the contest begins, NPR invites all to comment on this entry choice, as well as to suggest any potential entries you would like to see from the Northeastern United States in the future!

As a note... I've been listening to his latest album to find an entry, and I've loved every song so far  If anyone has any opinions on what song of his to send, I'll definitely be steered in that direction. :P

Oh this will be really interesting. For years i've been recommended to listen to Sufjan on all the various sites I frequent. Recently I picked up a music magazine and it came with a sample CD. Had one of Sufjan's songs on it, "No Shade In The Shadow Of The Cross". I instantly fell in love with the song and with the fragility of the music. Thus far i've only listened to his latest album. I'm looking forward to hearing what you've chosen:p

Northeastern United States' Artist for WorldVision 56 Announced

http://www.musicaldiscoveries.com/images/lisbeth1.jpg

Following several days of deliberation, National Public Radio (NPR) has announced the results of the internal selection for the artist who will represent the Northeastern United States in WorldVision 56, to be held in Dόsseldorf, Germany.

After several editions of dominance in internal selections from NPR's New York City member stations, NPR chose the submission from WGBH -- the member station from Boston, Massachusetts: they chose Austin Wintory feat. Lisbeth Scott, with a track from their 2012 collaboration on the soundtrack for Journey.

Austin Wintory, hailing from Denver, Colorado, is an American composer who composes scores for films and video games. Having composed more than 300 scores since 2003, Wintory is particularly famous for his scores for the acclaimed video games flOw and Journey; the latter score was nominated for a Grammy for Best Score Soundtrack for Visual Media, the first ever nomination for a video game.

Lisbeth Scott is a very successful singer from Boston, Massachusetts who has appeared on many albums and soundtracks since making her debut in 1994. Films and video games which she has appeared on include: Spider-Man (2002), The Last Samurai (2003), King Arthur (2004), Kingdom of Heaven (2005), The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe (2005), Munich, Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith (2005), Avatar (2009), & Journey (2012).

While the winning song will not be revealed until the contest begins, NPR invites all to comment on this entry choice, as well as to suggest any potential entries you would like to see from the Northeastern United States in the future!

Northeastern United States' Artist for WorldVision 58 Announced

https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/c/c4/Halsey_LA_%282%29.PNG/305px-Halsey_LA_%282%29.PNG

Following several days of deliberation, National Public Radio (NPR) has announced the results of the internal selection for the artist who will represent the Northeastern United States in WorldVision 58, to be held in a yet to be determined location.

Continuing last edition's trend of choosing a non-New York City based artist, NPR determined that Halsey, hailing from Washington, New Jersey, would be the region's representative for WorldVision 58.

The 21-year old singer recently released her debut album Badlandsjust this past August. That album charted in the top-10 in the United States, Belgium, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the Netherlands, and Ireland as well as #13 in Sweden. Halsey has also collaborated with other artists as well; one of the better songs on Justin Bieber's latest album is a collaboration with the New Jersey native.

While the winning song will not be revealed until the contest begins, NPR invites all to comment on this entry choice, as well as to suggest any potential entries you would like to see from the Northeastern United States in the future!

Northeastern United States' Artist for WorldVision 57 Announced

http://static.idolator.com/uploads/2015/01/lana-del-rey-honeymoon.jpg

Following several days of deliberation, National Public Radio (NPR) has announced the results of the internal selection for the artist who will represent the Northeastern United States in WorldVision 57, to be held in a yet to be determined location.

This particular singer has been debated by the NPR WorldVision committee on a few occasions in the past. While they were unable to convince NPR back then to send them to the contest, they proved to be a persuasive individual and finally won the hearts of the selection committee. NPR is proud to announce that Lana Del Rey will be representing the region in WorldVision 57.

The Lake Placid, New York-born singer has been noted for her cinematic style, with references to pop culture, particularly 1950s and 1960s Americana interspersed throughout her work. Del Rey first received recognition after the release of her major-label debut Born to Die January 2012; she built upon that recognition with the release of an EP, Paradise in November 2012 which brought her a Grammy nomination for Best Vocal Pop Album. The singer has continued to release successful work, with 2014's Ultraviolence and 2015's Honeymoon peaking at #1 and #2 in the United States respectively.

While the winning song will not be revealed until the contest begins, NPR invites all to comment on this entry choice, as well as to suggest any potential entries you would like to see from the Northeastern United States in the future!

Northeastern United States' Artist for WorldVision 58 Announced

https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/b/b8/John_Williams_tux.jpg/180px-John_Williams_tux.jpg

In a surprise announcement, National Public Radio (NPR) has announced that an internal selection has chosen the artist who will represent the Northeastern United States in WorldVision 58, to be held in a yet to be determined location.

While we are leaving New York City, the traditional home of Northeastern United States' past entries, we will not be leaving the state; the artist for WorldVision 58 hails from Floral Park, New York which is a village of 15,000 in Nassau County, on Long Island. While not previously considered in past internal selections, the artist for WV 58 is well known throughout the world for their excellent compositions. NPR is proud to announce that John Williams will be representing the region in WorldVision 58.

John Williams is an American composer, conductor, and pianist. In a career spanning over six decades, Williams has composed some of the most popular and recognizable film scores in cinematic history, including the Star Wars series, the first two Jaws films, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, the Indiana Jones series, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Superman, the first two Home Alone films, Hook, the first two Jurassic Park films, Schindler's List, Saving Private Ryan, the first three Harry Potter films, Catch Me If You Can, Memoirs of a Geisha, War Horse, and Lincoln.

Williams has won five Academy Awards, four Golden Globe Awards, seven British Academy Film Awards, and 22 Grammy Awards. With 49 Academy Award nominations, Williams is the second most-nominated individual, after Walt Disney.

NPR invites all to comment on this entry choice, as well as to suggest any potential entries you would like to see from the Northeastern United States in the future! The entry has not been chosen yet, and the selection method for the entry is still unknown so comments are welcome. :D

I'm still unsure about what entry to send for John Williams... I might send a track from Star Wars Episode VII (I'm going to see it with my seven year old brother on his birthday next week :D), or I might send a track from a previous Star Wars soundtrack, or I might send something from another one of his works... it's all to play at the moment.

I just wanted to post it here so I don't forget later this month. :P

(Edit: Halsey might go for WV 59, or maybe not...)

It's really up to you. There's one school of thought that says what you're about to do is best since it most accurately reflects what everyone else voted for, but by that same token, it's your entry, so no one would be upset if you now went with your preference between the top two. :)

as you cannot vote for yourself, removing your own votes is probably the best way to do it.

In all seriousness, I'm not sure it worked out magnificently in practice. There was one song that came very close to winning by racking up mid points from everyone that would appear to have very little strategic upside and a whole lot of strategic downside over the winner notwithstanding how close the two were.

Have a system where you choose the song that was the favourite for most people and only use points given as a tiebreaker! :p

Northeastern United States' Artist for WorldVision 60 Announced

http://www.ladyindie.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/lp.jpg

In an announcement this evening, National Public Radio (NPR) announced that an internal selection has chosen the artist who will represent the Northeastern United States in WorldVision 60, to be held in a yet to be determined location.

After several editions with artists hailing from New York City, and last edition's artist hailing from a village on the Nassau County - New York City border, we are traveling further into Long Island... our next artist LP is from Huntington in Suffolk County. xcheer

LP or Laura Pergolizzi is an American pop/rock singer and songwriter who has released three albums and one EP, and has written songs for several internationally recognizable artists such as Rihanna (Cheers (Drink to That)), Christina Aguilera (Beautiful People), Rita Ora (Shine Ya Light), The Veronicas (Lolita), Leona Lewis (Fingerprint), and Ella Henderson (Mirror Man). Her fourth album is expected to be released in early 2016.

NPR invites all to comment on this entry choice, as well as to suggest any potential entries you would like to see from the Northeastern United States in the future! The entry has not been chosen yet, and the selection method for the entry is still unknown so comments are welcome. :D

Hello, and welcome to the Northeastern United States' national final for WorldVision 61!

This originally began as a one-artist national final for Joan Baez, but I kept on getting deeper and deeper into the 1960's New York City folk scene, and I couldn't keep them out of this national final as well. :D So here we have it, Soundcheck '61: the Northeastern United States' first multi artist national final! xcheer

Without further ado, let's here the songs!

It's Betty Who for WorldVision 62!

National Public Radio (NPR) can finally announce that an internal selection has chosen the artist who will represent the Northeastern United States in WorldVision 62, which will be held in a yet-to-be-determined location in the coming weeks.

Our last few artists have hailed from New York City and the surrounding towns — NPR has decided to shake things up by sending an artist based in... New York City. Betty Who is an Australian singer-songwriter from Sydney who has been based in the Big Apple for her music career; she moved to the US at the age of 16 to attend the Interlochen Center for the Arts in northwestern Michigan before coming to New York City for her big musical breakthrough.

Her debut single "Somebody Loves You" was initially released independently as a free download, and was premiered by pop music blogger and at-the-time official Grammy blogger Arjan Writes on 30 November 2012. A music video, directed by Evan Savitt, was released on 22 January 2013, and an official remix by acclaimed indie pop producer FM Attack was released on 11 March 2013. On 8 March 2014, "Somebody Loves You" reached number one on Billboard's Dance/Club Play Songs chart. Her debut EP, The Movement, was released on 16 April 2013. An independent, free-download release initially, the EP's huge success online helped lead to a large amount of major label interest, before she ultimately signed with RCA Records. It premiered on Billboard on 9 April 2013, one week prior to its official release date and continually received rave reviews from countless major blogs and magazines throughout 2013. Upon release, Idolator described the EP as "A spine-tinglingly euphoric 80's pop nugget," indie pop blog All Things Go claimed she was "charting new musical territory," and the famous UK outlet Popjustice called it "the best proper EP so far of 2013."

Who released her second EP, Slow Dancing, on 8 April 2014, which made it to number one on the iTunes pop music charts. The first single from that album, titled "Heartbreak Dream", was released on iTunes and Google Play on 18 February 2014. The song is used over the end credits of the 2015 film Pitch Perfect 2. In late August 2014, Who made the announcement that her full-length debut album, Take Me When You Go, will be released on 7 October 2014. She also released the track list with the announcement. Thirteen songs, four of them being taken from her previous EPs, appeared on the album. From the album, the track, "All of You", was her second number one on the US Dance chart, peaking at number one on 21 February 2015.

NPR invites all to comment on this entry choice, as well as to suggest any potential entries you would like to see from the Northeastern United States in the future! I'm deciding between two of her songs... I suppose you'll find out which one I chose at the semifinal LL. :D

Note: Her biography has been liberally borrowed from her Wikipedia article to an extent that I feel that this disclaimer is necessary. :P

According to the rules an artist that has spent their childhood in a certain region/country is eligible for that region/country. It doesn't specify, but it says "In order to accept an artist who was not born, did not grow up or does not currently live in a country/region but only has roots from that country, then he/she must have special ties with that country"

If she grew up in NYC as you say, she should be eligible, I think

Hello, and welcome to the Northeastern United States' national final for WorldVision 66! Five editions after our most recent national final, and several months without much success in WorldVision, I have finally managed to get the time to hold a new national final. As with many of our previous national finals, Soundcheck '66 will be a one-artist national final with songs from a returning artist for the Northeastern United States: Simon & Garfunkel. The duo previously represented the region in WorldVision 47 with the song Sound of Silence, which placed 5th in the final.

For WorldVision 69, I am planning on one of two options:

Sending one of the songs from the Simon & Garfunkel national final (likely the runner-up). I'm still not over how I wasted probably the best entry I've ever sent (and likely the best I will ever send) to WorldVision by failing to vote in time. :'(
Holding another national final with modern songs — this will definitely happen for WorldVision 70 if I decide to go for S&G for WorldVision 69. :)

I'm not sure yet which one I am planning on doing; the final decision will come based on your comments (if any :P) as well as the reception to the WorldVision 68 entry I've sent earlier today. :)

I had a really hard time cutting down the number of songs to a manageable amount for a national final. Eight songs is the biggest national final I've ever had, but I think that since it's Lady Gaga you might know some of them already. :D

There's a lot of big songs in this national final; normally I wouldn't have this many but since I'm already scorewhoring by sending Lady Gaga in the first place, I might as well be an unrepentant scorewhore and take advantage of the situation.

Sorry for cutting Artpop completely out; Gypsy would've been my number one from that album but I just couldn't fit in the lineup. :(

Not a fan of Lady Gaga's music, but I'm secretly hoping Judas will win simply because it has Norman Reedus in the music video. Some eye candy for the LL.

So... which song do you think won? :D

I think "Edge of Glory" or "Alejandro" won, which I actually believe are the two that can do extremely well for you at the contest. Sorry I didn't vote in your NF. There's only one song from the eight here I don't like (one of the new songs) and I don't think that has won anyway. I was bad with keeping track of time. I sat down to do a bunch of NFs one night, then realizing yours had finished before the others. I think you're going to kick butt with pretty much whatever one is selected.

Thank you to everyone who voted for Lady Gaga in WorldVision 71! xheart

I've always loved Lady Gaga's work, and Alejandro is one of her best songs (though Edge of Glory and Marry the Night are tied for my favorite of her work xlove); listening to her discography in preparation for the national final was a very pleasant experience for me. :D

The entry was definitely not the most inspired or most original choice this edition, but I hope you all enjoyed listening to the song. :)

On to next edition: I have no idea who I'm going to send... I think I might send a song from the national final I was originally going to have for WorldVision 71 before I decided to send Lady Gaga. I don't have enough time to hold a national final over the next week (I have finals week until Thursday 15/12 :() so an internal selection is almost certain.
