Yesterday SRG SSR, also known as the Swiss national broadcaster, revealed that the host city announcement for Eurovision 2025 is set for August 30th.
The announcement is set to occur at 12:00 AM Central European Time (midnight), which is when the world and shortlisted candidates Basel and Geneva will learn who will host the next contest. Both cities have not hosted the contest before, and both bring different strengths and challenges. If you’d like to read up on these check out our article from yesterday.
So far a total of 22 countries have confirmed that they will compete at Eurovision 2025 with the latest additions to the list coming from the United Kingdom and the microstate San Marino. In addition, both Lichtenstein and Kosovo have expressed interest in debuting in the contest next year.
Switzerland is set to host the contest for the third time in history after Nemo won the 2024 contest in Malmo, Sweden with “The Code”. Their previous wins came in both 1956 when Lys Assia won the first ever contest in Lugano, and in 1988 when Celine Dion won in Dublin.
